I work in a large company and we see numerous issues with admin rights. Drive by infections via web browser, Software compliance issues (yes they do Download and install pirated applications,.. to their entire group), removing compliance software, locking IT department out of their workstation or server. A good IT department has the resources and facilitation to distribute the applications that a developer needs quickly and to globally manage every system on the network. To your point of "Any developer who can't competently administer his own machine is incompetent". Well that is the last think a developer does, they do not admin or take care of their machines. In fact in the places that I have worked the developers are the least patched and generally worst maintained systems. It is also difficult as the global sys admin to maintain their systems due to all of the unknowns on their systems. Whether it is a system variable that a maintenance script relied on that they changed because they didn’t know why it was there. We even had to hack into our own system because the user removed us as admins and we could not get in.

now if it just woulnt reboot the computer.
Well i find that very funny. does anyone else? with the fact that my "new updates are ready to be installed" popping up every day and the majority of them being Security updates. They really shoudl work on there Trustworthy computing initiative before trying to rip other OS's Security.
my 2 pennies
kind of a bad idea, people will just leave the memory stick in the computer. you would have to devise some sort of authentication that is with the user all the time. such as a tiny rice sized ez-pass imbedded into the had. it cant be stolen, and it would be kinda hard to steal
granted if the information given in the Whois directory (a.k.a all information relating to the registration of his domain) is correct, isnt this information freely available on the web anyway?
i would have to agree with MyPantsAreOnFire cause there has to be some point in which to cut it off. support for nt 4.0 from what i can see is when they would like 99.99% of people to be switched off of it. so are they really going to rework the entire RPC just so it works for a few more months? i think not it would probably take them that long to get the patch out there.
i for one am not a microsoft lover but if on the same token if red had found a flaw in a 6+ your old system they most likely would not write a patch they would say to upgrade to a newer kernal aka new version of there OS
so on this one i would have to say it was a good call.
This is actually a good idea. for those of us who really don't touch the server all that much and do not have enough desk real-estate to deal with, this could be a very easy solution. I am working on a similar thing. My sever is in my basement cause the wife does not want it in the living room where the other computer is. In the basement there is really only room for a computer no monitor so this is a nice all in one idea. I am also using a wireless keyboard and mouse so that can be stuck anywhere. Though my server is going to be running Linux so there is no real need for vnc.
well a class action lawsuit has more merrit then one person sueing. and im sure htere are lawyers that wold work for low wages just to get cheeper software in the long run
