Then use Windows. Tons of drivers, always on the install disk, no need to recompile your kernel. I really wonder what these guys that prefer proprietary drivers on Linux really want.
For non-techies out there, the key to understand the parent post is that "*" in this text can always be replaced by the linux app du jour. Try it, you'll see for yourself that it works well.
You got it completely backwards. "Open Source" is where it is exactely because it is open source, not because of some technical superiority. Freedom to use, copy, tinker with are what makes it successful. Moreover, open source can't lose because it has nothing to loose, whereas proprietary software "looses" often. OSS is succesful because of it's model, not because of it's technical merit du jour.
Well, this guy prefers full-featured binary drivers. Why does he bother installing Linux then ? Just use Windows and all your drivers will be full-featured binary beasts.
Please. Us moderators have the right to be funny sometimes too. That '+1 Informative' was intended as a joke. I hope it will be metamoderated accordingly.
That's not the problem. I have never seen a P2P client "accidentally" sharing or downloading an MP3. The problem is equivalent to suing gun makers because their device has been unlawfully used.
Eh, I just tried to RTFA, and here is what I had at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/randz/protocol/royalty_free_protoco l_license_agreement.asp :

Yay ! We slashdotted Microsoft !
Ok, I wasn't talking about the actual article (we're on/.) but about the editor comment, which implied it should go to prison just because it's a spammer. If you go that route, you'll require jail time for blog spammer, and even for slashdot trolls and ACs !
What ? Don't you think there are other crimes that deserve such a real punishment ? Spam is easily filtered with spamassassin and friends (I should know, it gets rid of thousands of spams daily for me), jail should be for murderers, rapers, corrupted politicians, etc.
Look at what this guy says ! Mod it up, and if it's already capped, well.. send the right kind of feedback. That means non-inflammatory, polite, to-the-point, etc.
Gstreamer's framework is LGPL'd, so it allows proprietary implementations on top of it - unlike of course Real's Helixplayer. IMHO this is doommed to fail unless they change their licensing plan.
George W. Bush sends Chirac an email stating- "I hate the French!"
That would be understandable: he has been such an asshole with foreign politics, and the French (and some others) precisely pointed why the Iraq war would be a mistake. Note that the whole "French suck" campaign was the equivalent of the email stating "I hate the French", except it was from a whole country.
That said, this time it's the European who are wrong. The freedom of speech at all cost is what I really like in you Americans, and seriously, banning some speech on Internet is a bad thing. Currently it's uncensored, and I like it this way. Prohibiting hate speech won't make Internet safer for kids (too many porn sites in there) or otherwise irresponsible people. I think this time, the USA must take the lead and impose free speech.

The register is late. That was before the amendments were voted last night.

Easy workaround: Linux has to team up with YaHoo!!! if it ever wants to make the headlines again.
I bet if they link every police car, we now have a perfect police-car detector. Cheap, fast, reliable. Just rename Netstumbler as Copstumbler ?

Ouch .. do you mean I'll have to provide *twice* the sourcecode of my progs ? Will a symlink do fine ?
In modern India, machine time costs more that you !!

-1 Obvious
It seems IDontWorkAnymore; /. effect ?
I downloaded their sample videos, but they keep playing really too slowly. I'm affraid their technology isn't quite ready yet ..
Windows XP SP2
You must be wrong: the slahsdot title clearly states that the vulns are unpatched, so SP2 has to be exploitable too.
Of course I would. That's what civilized nations do, as opposed to police states.

You can't blame /. for it's not really a website for the technical people ...
Then this "mistake" made me discover something today: there exist a color scheme uglier than the one from http://it.slashdot.org ...

Ha ! I do all my slashdotting under Linux, you fool !
