    Proprietary is fine with me.

    Then use Windows. Tons of drivers, always on the install disk, no need to recompile your kernel. I really wonder what these guys that prefer proprietary drivers on Linux really want.

    You got it completely backwards. "Open Source" is where it is exactely because it is open source, not because of some technical superiority. Freedom to use, copy, tinker with are what makes it successful. Moreover, open source can't lose because it has nothing to loose, whereas proprietary software "looses" often. OSS is succesful because of it's model, not because of it's technical merit du jour.

    That's not the problem. I have never seen a P2P client "accidentally" sharing or downloading an MP3. The problem is equivalent to suing gun makers because their device has been unlawfully used.

    Ok, I wasn't talking about the actual article (we're on /.) but about the editor comment, which implied it should go to prison just because it's a spammer. If you go that route, you'll require jail time for blog spammer, and even for slashdot trolls and ACs !

    What ? Don't you think there are other crimes that deserve such a real punishment ? Spam is easily filtered with spamassassin and friends (I should know, it gets rid of thousands of spams daily for me), jail should be for murderers, rapers, corrupted politicians, etc.

    Gstreamer's framework is LGPL'd, so it allows proprietary implementations on top of it - unlike of course Real's Helixplayer. IMHO this is doommed to fail unless they change their licensing plan.

    That would be understandable: he has been such an asshole with foreign politics, and the French (and some others) precisely pointed why the Iraq war would be a mistake. Note that the whole "French suck" campaign was the equivalent of the email stating "I hate the French", except it was from a whole country.

    That said, this time it's the European who are wrong. The freedom of speech at all cost is what I really like in you Americans, and seriously, banning some speech on Internet is a bad thing. Currently it's uncensored, and I like it this way. Prohibiting hate speech won't make Internet safer for kids (too many porn sites in there) or otherwise irresponsible people. I think this time, the USA must take the lead and impose free speech.
