Actually Sun (i-planet) and Iona have web app servers that compete with BEA/IBM. Marketshare for the non-free stuff looks basically like
BEA Systems 34%
IBM 31%
Sun One 9%
IONA 3%
Fujitsu-Siemens 1%
Sybase 1%
Progress/Sonic 1%
SAP 0%
Other Vendors 19%
Functionality across the app servers is basically the same. BEA used to be a lot better, but IBM has caught up. IBM is a lot cheaper too.
Rocking book. Its pretty much about fighters using remote controlled robots (soldierboys). of course, they are not in the damn thing (talk about an advantage). Still kinda of the same thing.
If you have not read the book, I would highly recommend it (along with its predecessor, "Forever War", which has no relation to "Forever Peace" but still is even better).
1. Although Linux is cool, what role does it play in local politics? How will Linux help Bluebird attract more customers?
2. As a former resident of VA, I would suggest your electorate does not understand the concept of "source" let alone open source. Although many UVA students would understand, they are probably not registered to vote in Charlottesville, they make their homes in NOVA or NY. The townies are uneducated and thus don't care about "open source" and the benefits it will provide for white collar workers.
Why bother? Why not raise issues that matter? Burgenoning bum population? Horrendous traffic for a small town.
Same thing happened to me, but it was after 1 year of work. Just suddenly I got bored. I enjoyed the design part of the job, but it turned out that most of the time all I did was fix bugs, test and write doc. Probably only 10% of the time was I using logic in my job. the rest was grunt work.
Do you know what I did, I got into an analyst role specializing in requirements analysis, also got to do a little design work. From there I moved into Product Mgmt for a software company and I love it. I never thought I would like a job this much.
XML on a DB seems foolish to me, just storing lots of extra data. What I want to know is:
When will the hype on XML die the death it deserves? I am all for XML, it solves real business problems of data conversion and self description.
I am just sick of the answer for everything being XML-can't talk to a business partner, oh we should use XML. Doesn't matter what you are trying to do.
For instance, if its just two parties talking, it probably makes more sense to do some sort of flatfile, as opposed to XML (time to value is much quicker).
Sorry he was the eeexecutive producer of the interview clips.....very different, but still relatively cool.
My father directed these reunion shows. He said it was a blast. I never thought my dad was cool, until he made /.
How many of your fathers made slashdot? Ptth
The history of the ring is to compensate the wife for giving up her life.
Any self respecting women should have an issue with this.

For a movie to be good, it must have one of the following: -over the top violence -lots of nudity -or too weird to understant
