  2. dont really think you can blame this on unions.... whats your agenda? Most of the time issues like this are caused by management thinking "we already spent X million dollars for server clusters on one site. But it costs X much more for each server to have dual power supplies, then X much more for each DataCenter power bus and redundant backups, then you telling me we have to spend X times 2 for an additional DataCenter?!?!?! and testing etc etc. I thought this is what a HA cluster is for!"

    I know and have used alpine ... mainly in docker containers, I'm not super thrilled with it. Overall, it's main selling point is that, initially... it's small....

    Everybody pays for their internet connection... The rules that are being retracted prevent the ISP's from double (triple?) dipping by charging 3rd parties again

    Yeah, the parent is young and the reasoning on this is very naive... at the time there were many many reason to store dates that way. also computing was so new that no one anticipated it being an issue... until it was....

    What exactly does that mean... encrypt as they travel? As someone that spent nearly a decade at a SaaS email security firm, SMTPS is only PtoP. If there are points in between, there's a chance that your email will have an unencrpyted hop. otherwise your looking at GPG/SMIME solutions... based on the info provided, I don't see what they are doing any different other than providing a "dedicated" box....

  8. So I can understand the sarcasm, and for some reason, you're post resonates with me. I started "working" when I was around 11 doing a paper route, before that my parent made me do "chores". you can no longer be a child with a paper route, not only do the papers want older more "reliable" people, but there are fewer papers these days. Once I was old enough, I got a job as a bagger at a grocery store, fast food, waiter, salesman, clerk, college, professional .. basically, with a few minor interruptions, I've been employed since 11 yo.

      I know kids these days, whose parents won't let them think about getting their first job until after college, nor do they seem to want to.

    Honestly OK by me I've been laid off twice in 20 years, and each time I found a better higher paying job in a few weeks and my Severence was just a bonus.

    While I don't entirely disagree with you, this is an extremely slippery slope to go down.... I would actually oppose you until we 100% (well as close as we can get) understand genetics. For as advanced as we are right now, we're just leaving the horse and buggy era, and its just too soon to be messing, wholesale, with human genetics.

    I think it depends on the dept that your talking about. I wouldn't trust anything coming from Trumps office for shit... Places like NOAA, NASA, etc etc. I would probably trust more. It all depends how how horrible it gets under Trump.

    I'm typing this as I transcode Bluerays for my plex server on my 4yo 8core PhenomFX black with 32GB of ram. I'm currently wishing for the latest gen processor as, ripping the BD Disc took 30 minutes, and then transcoding it to the 1080p30 SuperHQ in handbrake is going to take ~ 5 hours. I guess if your surfing the web and checking emails, computer have been fast enough for a while, but if you actually do real work, for example a jenkins build farm for a whole company you still want the cutting edge.

    Cant really do home processing with Kodachrome evidently, the process is extremely complex.

    Yeah, um no. While I am tired of thin phones ith small batteries as well, there simply no way I'm going to take a bulky DSLR attachment for my phone anywhere. I'd rather take a bulky DSLR to take real pictures. same with RAID, Audio, etc.etc. the phones today are good enough for joe avg. but when you actually want quality something, a dedicated device will always be superior.

    I swear to God the first time I buy a concert ticket and the DJ hooks up an iPhone, I'm demanding my money back.
