the way I see it, i don't really care if you do or don't care about security issues. because when you get infected and unknowingly (and uncaringly) start spreading it, the internet and network admins across the country are the ones that suffer.
So, as i've told anyone who uses any computer that i have responsibility for, you'll use whatever software combines the most security with the most amount of practical usablitiy.
Would I hire an extortionist to be my accountant? Would I hire a thief to manage my inventory? Would I hire a sadist to manage my HR (Catbert obviously excluded)?
Would I hire a sex offender to babysit my children?
No. Yes, they did pay their debt to society/do their time. I might hire them to do other things away from their area of conviction, but I'm not going to dangle temptation in front of their face. Does that seem like just straight common sense to anyone but me?
The best advice anyone could give the nursing community would be to not subject themselves to this kind of degradation. If all you are to your employer is the lowest possible compensation that they can give you, the chances of you being treated well at the workplace dramatically decreases.
For those in the Technology sector, lets all collectively agree right now to not allow this to become a common practice for IT jobs. If quality people do not participate, then the companies that host this kind of charade will get the unskilled, questionable people that they deserve.
Why is Real so intrusive into the average windows system when using the express installation method? Why must the player install shortcuts on the desktop, in the start menu in several places, in the quicklaunch bar, in the favorites, etc., and why must it hijack my file associations? If i delete these shortcuts, why are they -ever- recreated by Real without asking me?
Why is the free version the hardest version to find on your website?
Why must I choose a custom install and play a game of "catch-em-all" to avoid some of these issues?
Why does Real assume I'm interested in news, updates, libraries, or any of the nonsense that it is configured for by your company?
In short, why does Real feel the need to be so Obnoxious? These are "real" questions posed by "real" users, like here and supported by your own employees!
Just think, one day you can install a room in your super-computer-enabled house that will allow your children to imagine virtual adventures that they can play out, without ever leaving the house!
Would be a parent's dream!

I don't know if these last security holes were just the straw that broke, but I've had no fewer than 20 people comment to me over this last week that they are sick of IE, and are lookin for alternatives.
It's also been a hotter-than-usual topic on Usenet. There really seemed to be a mass exodus from IE over the last couple of weeks, perhaps due to what people feel is blatant neglect by Microsoft.
I left IE as well last week, opting instead for Opera, and really couldn't be happier. Screw 'em, I want my tabbed browsing!
Does anyone know if Sony has addressed the widespread touchpad issues that have plauged the Vaio laptops, specifically the 505 series?
I have a thin v505 that is less than 6 months old, has been treated extremely gently, and is already in need of touchpad replacement/repair (the cursor just skips all over and simply does not accurately track finger movement). This is an annoying and widespread enough problem to warrant those considering purchase of a 505 to perhaps think twice. And if you do, definitely get that extended warranty (but that may just go without saying in laptop purchasing).
Too bad we aren't talking about hardware. From the article (there's an article!?!?!):
MICROSOFT is jumping into the portable media market, launching software for a new line of mobile devices designed to free digital content from a computer and play music, videos and photos on the go.
Sure, they may do good hardware, but knowing it's software they are producing here, one's first thoughts should be towards whether the software will be infected with DRM, and to what extent.
