Well, if no makes such a processor that will fit a modern motherboard socket, then underclocking is the only option. Of course, there's also VIA CPUs, if you either have an old socket 370 board or want to buy one of their embedded boards. Presumably, the reason the AMD cpu was used was because they had an old system sitting around and decided to make it fanless.
Now, there may come a day when Utahans (Utahites? Utahweenians?) will begin to question the application of their individual tax contributions towards road construction projects (i.e. "Hey, my taxes just went up, and I don't even own a car! How about getting me a static IP?"), but that's the normal course of government.
And who cares if a private company can't compete? What's wrong with, say, water and power being run by the government? BC Hydro is pretty cheap (5.77 cents Canadian per kWh) and is a major source of revenue for the government. (Of course, the "Liberal" Party wants to privatize it to make their rich buddies even richer, but that's nothing new.)
Like in the Galactic Empire...
"Many men of course became extremely rich, but this was perfectly natural and nothing to be ashamed of because no one was really poor -- at least no one worth speaking of."
Yeah, they just released a new version that (among other things) supposedly improves DivX 3.11 playback. (The other versions and Xvid played fine, but 3.11 was jerky.) Unfortunately, it sounds like there's still a problem with it being zoomed in automatically for MPEG-4, so you have to adjust the screen or stuff will be cut off the top and bottom. Hopefully I'll be able to get through to their server soon so I can try it out myself.
There are some comments about it on the NCIX forums.
I think it's the right general idea, but instead the loser should pay the winner either whatever the going rate for a court-appointed attorney would be, or their own legal costs, whichever is higher.
No kidding. While it's possible to get AA and AAA NIMH batteries, it's getting harder and harder to find portable devices I can use them in. My main complaint is that I can find any PDAs being made that still take AAAs.
I wish I could find a fanless power supply for a decent price. Also, instead of one with a huge heatsink, I'd like one similar to a laptop power supply (a brick that sits on the floor, so I don't have to worry about it heating up the case) that splits into the various connectors once inside my PC. As it is, I've got a Zalman one that I can only hear if there's no other noise in my apartment (currently, the old CRT I've got hooked up to it makes more noise with its constant hum - I guess I'll replace it with a cheap LCD, as it doesn't look like the new techs are going to show up anytime soon).
Flash memory might work for just booting the OS, as long as it isn't updated too frequently and any swap is stored elsewhere. I dunno. Hard drive makers seem to be focusing solely on size and speed, with no regard to reliability (one year warranties) or noise (except Seagate, to some degree).
Yeah, it is mainly from the benzo(a)pyrine in the tar. Though there is evidence for nicotine itself being carcinogenic - this abstract was all I could find with a quick search. Anyway, the cardiovascular effects would be more dangerous.
No kidding. It also damages blood vessels, producing atherosclerosis, and raises the risk of blood clots forming. The best thing a smoker can do to reduce the risk of an MI is to quit smoking, even if he's fat, lazy, with a crappy diet and high cholesterol.
I'd guess that the nicotine from chewing tobacco is absorbed through the oral mucosa, sort of like nicotine gum or sublingual tablets (sl lorazepam tablets, which dissolve under the tongue and are absorbed there, are much quicker acting - and from what I've seen, more addictive - than the regular tablets, which dissolve in the stomach).
Or you can installKnoppix, which is what I did. So much easier. I hope the Debian folks take the hint and adopt the Knoppix hardware recognition stuff with a simple installer.
(Sigh) No kidding... Does anyone know of any currently available PDAs that have a decent-sized screen? More than a couple hours of battery life would be nice, too (at least the "Unnamed Concept" has that going for it).
I haven't ever had commercials/trailers/etc that I couldn't skip on a purchased DVD (though most of what I buy is anime and collections of TV shows), but if I did I'd cut them out and burn a DVD-R with just the movie. Then I'd make a few copies of it and give them out for free, just to spite the bastards.
And they'd save what, 2 bucks? PS2 is a hell of a lot more reliable, and I'm not interested in buying some stupid adapter. And why is on-board audio unnecessary? Who needs an Audigy 2 besides hardcore gamers? Far too many people use these features to consider dropping them... okay, except for the floppy drive.
Now, not having tons of DDR slots on a motherboard designed for a 64-bit processor is just dumb...
True, but if he was charged/sued, and got a decent lawyer, this would certainly come up. (ie, he wasn't speeding as the prosecution claimed, etc.) Joe Average probably wouldn't be able to prove his innocence with crash data like skid marks and whatnot either.
Yeah, 'cause there would be horrific carnage and maiming of innocents if, y'know, I bumped into someone with my 62 kg mass while going at the reckless speed of a few kilometers per hour...
In order to break something, doesn't it have to be working in the first place?
Plus, I plan on dying around then anyway, so if it is a problem, it's Somebody Else's.

Not sure about him, but in B.C. it's surprising if we get more than a couple of weeks - sometimes there's none at all, except on the mountains.

It would be if the salads were more carcinogenic than the french fries...

Why, I never!

The screen on this is too small to be useful for me, but it might be okay for people who just want a convenient, reliable organizer.
And that's really helpful when it's installed in libraries and schools with the settings locked...

Um, because the second option costs more , while the first can be turned off in the bios by the 5% that won't use it.

They had those in X-Com 2 (Terror from the Deep), right? That was one weird game...
