It's not really like DRM though. It's an online service that you pay once for. You wouldn't say Google has put DRM on gmail would you?
Now the purpose and effect may be the same as a Digital Rights Management system, but technically it is quite different.
Also, the average Chinese worker has more holiday time than the average American worker, in fact they might have more holiday than the average EU worker.
Why should being an asshole be punished by prison time, if no one got hurt. Why not just ignore the assholes? Considering that writing on your Facebook or Twitter account isn't really too different from saying it in a crowded room, maybe everyone should walk around recording what everyone else says. 90% of the country would end up in jail.
Thanks for the link to the video. While I agree he appears to be a vile person, I don't agree anyone should go to jail for calling people names on the internet, so I won't celebrate the judgement.
In that case it was claimed they were joking, I'm not sure how true that is but no one turned up to their planned riot, they didn't even bother turning up so I'm inclined to believe no one took it seriously. Hence prison time seems inappropriate, to me anyway.
The media actually hardly ever publish what was written in cases like these. It's easier for the public to accept the judgement if they don't know the details.
It's really worth having a look at the chart in the link.
If you lived to 5 years old, your life expectancy would then be 48. If you lived to be 20, then you would be expected to live to 54.
I really hate this type of stereotyping, it is really ignorant. France is not the only cheese maker in Europe. England, Spain, Romania, Italy, Holland all produce very good cheeses too.
Prices in the US online store are listed without any sales tax. All products sold in the EU have the VAT (sales tax) included into the price. The VAT in the UK is 20%.
Well I wasn't arguing that an equivalent to the BBC should be created in the US, but yeah other than that I agree. At the same time it's nice that other countries have different systems. No one is perfect and it's nice to observe what seems to work and what doesn't.
Right, so you would eliminate an institution that functions well purely on an ideological basis? What would the benefits be? That isn't very different from the forced nationalisation of private companies just for ideological reasons. Wouldn't it be better to take a practical approach to issues?
Even in Rome the government paid for both entertainment and the distribution of news, but tradition isn't a valid argument neither for or against.
You don't agree where the line has been drawn as to what the role of the governments role, I don't agree either to be honest. But I believe the BBC works well and does a good job and provides a good return for the money invested, so why get rid of it on ideological reasons?
For the same reasons you pay for a fire department, military equipment, soldiers, public education, roads, bridges, national parks, scientific research, and a thousand other things.
At least with the BBC if you haven't got a TV you don't pay the license fee. It's nice to have tv programming that doesn't have to cater to the lowest common denominator.
Hard to say, there could be 20 in the flat array if there are an additional ten on the other side of the roof. And I'm pretty sure the tree has 20 not 18, but some are hard to see in the picture.
This isn't that cesspool reddit.
You really think that America is one of the only countries where you can say something like that?
What's shocking is that google has locked the user out of their email account while this is happening.

I'm amused by the ignorance of the moderator you modded you a troll.
Former Eastern Europe? Did it all move to the Algarve??
You can say whatever you like, but it is a bit arrogant to actually believe what you are saying based on one rhetorical comment I made.

Yes I do, only too well having lived in a communist country.
I agree completely, but I don't think most people think that way, unfortunately.

I made a similar submission this morning regarding this issue.
This guy is being prosecuting for making critical remarks about British soldiers.
These guys were sent to prison for encouraging rioting on Facebook.
The BBC has more information here.
Everyone believes that Democracy won the cold war over Communism, but given what's happening in the west today, how true is that?
Ars Technica maybe?
