Interesting until you see the 9 countries ahead of it and it makes sense. Most of the money spent on military by the 9 countries ahead as a percentage of GDP, get the money from the US anyway, either through oil sales or military aid.

I've developed a flash application on a mac. This application had a little over 20,000 lines of AS2.0. It was a terrible experience. Everyone at Macromedia should be ashamed of themselves for having released such a slow, buggy, and horribly designed piece of software.
The only satisfaction I received from the experience was solving two problems that everyone on the actionscript forums claimed to be impossible. Well, half of the satisfaction came from solving them and the other half from not sharing the solutions with anyone. Never again.
You think the V2 components are bad? Try the development environment on a mac. Its so incredibly slow and buggy its hard to believe they can sell it. Lucky for me most of the work is in actionscript so I can use an external editor.
I'm not sure if the show was ever on the verge of dying, but I certainly was after watching ten minutes of it. Browder and Black must feel at least a little bit humiliated. I guess maybe sci-fi misses some of the viewers they lost with Farscape. This really is a big fuck you to all the Farscape fans. And please, no inane comments about how sci-fi was doing its fiduciary duty by canceling Farscape.
It isn't strange at all. The water here tastes like shit, even if you put it through a brita. The water that comes out of the tap at my apartment alternates between coming out chalky white or chalky brown. It dries the my skin out after I shower. Thats why we only drink bottled water. Fortunately it is cheap if you buy cases of it. I live in downtown los angeles now, but the water tasted just the same when I lived in pasadena. I've been drinking bottled water my whole life. Maybe the water in San Francisco is better, but I doubt it. The tap water is great in Lake Tahoe though!
Los Angeles, nice place to live, terrible place to visit.

I'm afraid if you want to generate any kind of discussion you're going to have to bring the conversation down a couple notches. It's interesting how the public has become so polarized in their cheerleading that it drowns any possibility of real discussion.
It's a shame we can't discuss, as a nation, issues that have a little more substance too them. The argument can be made that having a military presence in Iraq is advantageous to the country, despite the fact that lives will be lost.
A military base in Iraq discourages OPEC from selling their oil in euros. It might give the United States some leverage with China with its huge appetite for oil, offsetting the leverage they have with us with the billions of dollars they are hoarding. This invasion will probably allow the country to run from its economic woes for a while longer.
I think the nation would be better off facing its problems sooner rather than later, and I think the world would be better off too, but I suspect we'll just continue to print dollars. I'm curious how much of our gold reserves we sold, anyone got any info? I wonder what the next "wealth generating" speculative market will emerge as the real estate market subsides.
This is very easy to circumvent. You set up a company where all your employees are located. You set up another company in the tax shelter state. You have the taxed company do business with the untaxed company. Maybe the taxed company pays a consulting fee to the untaxed company. The taxed company suddenly shows no profit, therefore it pays no income tax. The untaxed company shows a huge profit but it pays no income tax anyway so it doesn't matter. There are a million other ways to legally get around paying taxes.

Prices in the EU include VAT, which is about 20% depending on the country. Prices in the US not include the tax, which is added.

Hopefully they are serious about making the OSX IDE into a "real" IDE as well. Macromedia Studio MX 2k4 for OSX is a complete disaster.
They certainly have a lot of work to do if thats the case. I hope they can pull it off, because right now actionscript is seriously fucked up.
I'm leaving an actionscript job in the next few weeks for a WebObjects one, and I couldn't be any happier.

I have karma to burn. Come and get me!
I don't have a clue as to why anyone would want to live in that city. I mean come on, it looks disgusting.
This gentlemen, is exactly why you shouldn't get completely trashed in a foreign country, at least without friends to watch your back.
It may be easier to find people trading a certain item, but you can only get busted for trading one thing, as opposed to all 5000 mp3s you have.
The industrious ones among us have already been making lots of money doing business in China, it isn't a far away promise.

For the love of god, please don't use photoshop lens flare effects! Unless of course you're going for a retro look.

I heard the same story, on a college campus not so far away.
