    Disagree - anything you can do to save yourself work later is worth looking at. Rebuild a server just because insurance will cover it? Sure, have at it. That's why I board up my windows when we're in the path of a hurricane. Insurance will cover it, but I'd rather not have to live in a motel for 6 weeks.

    Don't take one thing and extrapolate it out and say everything is ok. Re-read the last line of the summary: effectively unrepairable by the user This isn't a cordless phone or a bluetooth unit. It's a $2000+ laptop. You cannot upgrade RAM, harddrive, or install a new screen. You need the warranty or care service sold by Apple. This is like the auto manufacturer welding your hood shut.

    There's two sides to every story, and frankly, the occupiers usually come off as smug hipsters with a victim mentality - demonstrated through their actions and creative editing. But maybe it's just me.

    You're assuming that it will require a human to grade the exams. And extended coursework is becoming more come in lieu of a thesis. The time required for a human to teach a course isn't what it used to be. And why should it?

    The bigger issue is the honor code. But Udacity just entered into an agreement with Pearson testing centers to allow students to test in a recognized environment.

    I admit, I'm a bit biased after taking the Robotic Car class, but I think it's time for a change in our educational structure. Costs are increasing much faster than inflation, yet technology is clearly there to make it cheaper.

    That would make complete sense if you believed that 1) no one has ever had a cell phone on during takeoff and landing and b) someone who had nefarious intentions would abide by the rule.

    You're right, I took exception to the generalizations. Especially from someone who is likely a complete outsider. I no longer work at JSC, but I know what the culture is like and I had been there for 5 yrs when the Columbia accident happened. Utter lack of safety? No, I thought the steps taken toward safety were over the top.
