    But the truth be told that it still works better in IE. Not because of the code but because their rendering engine handles some things regarding dhtml better.
    No, it is your code. This site works great in Firefox, moveable elements, maximize, minimized, etc.

    Because only "good" people can take off that RFID wristband. The "bad" people would never think of taking of that RFID wristband. I am a daddy of two and would die if I lost them. I just dont' see how a wristband would help. Anyone can take it off. Basically, we would track a child to the trashcan that the kidnapper threw the RFID wristband in.

    As a Daddy of two, I think always being able to find my children is great. However, exactly how do you put these RFID tags on to our kids? A bracelet? An anklet? Those can easily be taken off buy the kids as well as by the kidnapper. Should we inject our kids with RFID tags? I dont' know. That seems a little far for me, though the though of loosing my little girl does make it seem like an "OK" idea. It is a tough choice for a parent.

    Multimple inheritence can get ugly, while multiple interfaces can stay much cleaner. Yes, interfaces seem dumb since they do not offer any of the implementation, though then can be powerful. MS's COM is based on interfaces and does have some nice features. I don't see how you could do multiple interfaces with implementatation without the problems of multiple inhertitence. Do you have any suggestions? : )

    Please dude, get a life. I have been developing for 9 years in C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, VB, C# and others. I have written tons of "web apps". They are nothing compared to writting real apps. Oddpost took the easy way out. Instead fo finding the best way to do ECMA compliant Javascript, they just test in IE and said, "Hey it works, I geuss it is good". I guess your "major websites" have taken the same approach. Dont' try to guess a persons skills from a stinkin /. post, it makes you sound like and idiot!

    How is this "Informative"? Just because you and your team don't know standard HTML, doesn't mean the rest of the real programming world does not. Also, where in the world do you get and extra 25 hours? If you are worth your weight in salt, you will know how to spit out simple standards compliant HTML in the first place. Seriously, HTML is not a programming language, it is a markup language and is not very hard to learn. Hell, even AOL users can put out some standard HTML.

    Once they are no longer beta, they will not longer be free as in beer and most certainly not as in speech. So anyone that uses them now are just free beta-testers for MS. Also, you said

    Where are the Visual C++ 6, VB 6, etc compilers for free?

    I noticed that as well. I wonder _why_ MS choose not to make it standars compliant? All the crap they do with IE can be done in a cross-broser/platform manner, yet for some _strange_ reason MS choose to make it better in IE only. Does MS know how much IE sucks? Or do most MS employees think that IE is some how better then Mozilla/Firefox? Is there any human alive that thinks IE is better then Mozilla/Firefox? And please don't give me reasons because of market share. I am talking purley technical reason.

    It is pretty sad that they didn't do this from the start. It is not hard to make a standards compliant HTML site. It makes one question the "programming" talents of the people at Oddpost. So far Yahoo! Mail has worked cross-platorm for me and the same with Google. I will stick to those two. I have no place for idiots that cannot make a simple standards compliant web app.

    Is this the secret to get people to _not_ mod you as flamebait? Seriously, I love Java and it is a much better language then PHP IMO. Though one thing I cannot stand about Java are the exceptions! Why can't Java exception be more like Mono/C# exeptions. I don't want to have to deal with every exeption that I am not interested in!

    I don't think there is any reason for flamming. CPAN is just great. When I first tried Perl and CPAN, my jaw hit the floor when I saw how much Perl code was available to me through CPAN. Now if PHP had an equivelent of CPAN, then Perl might have something to worry about. My main coding is in C, C++, Java and Mono/C#/.Net. Though it is hard to beat Perl and CPAN for many tasks that would take tons of code in other languages.

    Ruby? Ruby? Do you know why I haven't spent the time to learn Ruby? Because I have learned too many dang language. C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, C#, VB, Bash, SQL, PL/SQL, not to mention all the other stuff like JavaScript, HTML, etc. Does Ruby offer anything that all of these language together do not? If so, maybe I will get off my butt and give Ruby a whirl.

    Umm, he said Visual Studio, which is _far_ from free as in beer or as in speech. My company pays a few grand per year for an MSND licence for me and we all wish it were free to develop under MS as it is for Linux.

    Oh, by the way, do they have a C++ 6 or VB 6.0 compiler for free? I was not able to find it.

    IE is not the interface between the OS and the user. That interface is explorer.exe which is the shell under MS Windows and happens to use IE functionality for many tasks. IExplorer.exe (the browser) is really just a wrapper GUI that uses the IE guts. That is why MS can trick users into thinking that they can now uninstall IE, when all they really remove is IExplorer.exe the GUI and all the nasty IE parts are still there for explorer.exe the shell to use (along with other parts of MS apps) and inherit those exploits.

    Making a web browser is not as easy as it sounds. You need a good fast standards compliant HTML parser. Then you need a good render. You also need to parse CSS and include that into the render. Oh, and there is JavaScript and a plugin API. The GUI is the easy part. It is all the stuff underneath that takes some time.

    Those numbers must have a very big margin of error. For example, the laptop I bought had windows XP Home on it. I did not have a choice. The first thing I did was put Linux on it. I didn't even boot to XP. My 2 desktops had XP Home, again I did the same thing to my desktops that I did to my laptop. So according to MS, I count as 3 "Windows PCs" when in fact, I should count as zero?

    1.2%? Where are you getting your numbers? According to IDC, Linux had 2.8% of personal computers in 2002. That is not counting the server market where Linux has between 20% and 25% depending on who you ask and MS has only about 45% - 50% depending on who you ask.

    Just as added support costs for desktop MS Windows far exceed the cost of OEM windows. OEM Windows is not too expensive, it is all the extra software needed to protect it from viruses and malware on top of that the support costs to remove all that garbage from Joe Users windows desktop.
    last thing Linux needs anyway is users who hit a checkbox to save a few dollars and then complain because AOL won't work.
    What would be so bad about that? Maybe if a few thousand users started to bug AOL, AOL would come out with an official AOL dialer for Linux.

    No, but you can be sure that Dell charges their customers at least that much for it. Have you ever seen how much Dell wants to add some memory to a system? I was looking at a Dell _once_ until I saw them try to charge me more then double the cost for an extra 256MB of RAM then what I could get it for on the net.

    Maybe they should use Xandros? It is just as easy to use as Linspire and they also have a business desktop with a desktop management server to make for easy deployment and management. SuSE/Novell may also be a good option if they come out with some type of management for easier deployment. While Red Hat has a great server, they have no real integration for management or deployment of business desktops, so I don't think they are a good option for the enterprise right now.

    Do you think that is the only software that this AC stole from MS? You can bet that guy has stolen copies of MS Office, Visual Studio, SQL Server and tons of other MS apps. So yes, it is most likely well over $10,000 of MS software this one punk stole. I am no fan of MS, but that doesn't mean I want to see trash like this AC steal from them. If he wants most of the MS software, let him pay for MSDN and get access to most MS software for development like me and and many others do.

    Yes, but I wonder how much money it cost Static Control Components in lawyers to fight off Lexmark? If they had been a smaller company, would they have even gone to court? There is a big problem in the USA with big business buying laws from crooked politicians to benefit big business.
