You are a moron because of the content of your post. It wasn't just some random name calling.
I am rubber, and your glue. There now, we are back to your level. Justifying naming calling is just stupid. You sound like a teeny-booper trying to justify what you did wrong. Name calling adds nothing to a discussion.
What are you talking about? Corporations are being audited, fined, and executives are jailed.
Huh? What are _you_ talking about. Corps have been getting away with tons of crap for _decades_. Did anyone personally get in trouble at MS because of their actions that were found to be monopolistic practices? Nope. MS was able to blame it on the "Corporation". Though a non-living/fictitious corporation was not able to make the decisions that caused MS to be judged an illegal monopoly that caused consumers and other corporations countless dollars. Some one(s) at MS made those decisions and yet didn't even get a $1 fine. As far as executives being jail, it takes some pretty _BAD_ things to happen first such as an Enron for those exec to get anything more than a slap on the writs.
You ACTUALLY believe that if this guy had operated the same illegal activity from behind a corporation, that he would not be going to jail?
Yup. He would have just gotten a fine. I have received more spam crap from "corporations" than from private citizens over the past year. Corporations are allowed to spam me as "targeted advertising", yet if a personal citizen does it, it is spam or adware. I have had tons of USA "corporations" that I have had _zero_ affiliation with send me their spam at home and at work over the past year. All of the spam is basically the same from these corps. It says "this is the _only_ message you will get from us", sure, until the next one I get. "If you want to unsubscribe, click here", sure and then you know my email is valid and spam the crap out of me. Most of the spam I get now is from major US corporations that are sending me "targeted" advertising. Sadly, if a small-time business guy tries the same thing, it is spam, adware, spyware, etc. I get tons of crap from MS, yet I have _never_ personally signed up for _any_ of their spam emails. Though this is OK because it is MS, a company with billions. What Diabl0 did is "wrong" because he was just some small-time guy trying to make some money the same way the big corps do.
Oh, and if you think the big corps are all clean wrt spyware, think again. The big corps have been _the_ big advertising dollars that have kept spyware companies running. How many of these huge corps have been hit as hard as this small-time guy Diabl0? None.
Just a few "big" quotes for you:
Mercedes-Benz says its ad was carried to hard drives last year by an agency it has since fired
(like MB didn't know what their "advertiser" was doing).
Computer maker Dell USA has fired "a handful" of affiliates for carrying Dell's coupons and ads over adware.
"This is not a practice we condone," said Dell spokeswoman Jennifer Davis. Uhh, yeah, you didn't condone it, you just paid for it.
especially America's right wing hate Socialists with a passion
I don't know if you have noticed, but America's left wing is _just_ as BIG GOVERNMENT as the right. That is why I am personally a Libertarian.
Cuba and Venezuela by contrast are left leaning Socialism which is focused on things like universal health care, education, elimination of poverty, land reform and Republican's in particular HATE people that do nasty stuff like that.
Huh? What world do you live in? Cuba and Venezuela live in tons of poverty, much more than the U.S.A. Do you expect me to believe that the leaders of Cuba and Venezuela care about the average citizens health care, education and poverty? In a system of Socialism, the leaders always provide for themselves first and "the people" later. Show me one active system of Socialism where those in power of that Socialist govt. are not _far_ better off financially than the average person living under that Socialist govt.
I can show you tons of private citizens (Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, etc.) that are far better off financially in the U.S.A. than upper members of the govt. The wealthiest 400 (non-govt.) U.S.A. citizens are worth $955 billion, just shy of $1 Trillion dollars! You won't see personal wealth like that in any society based on Socialism, unless of course it is the wealth of the leaders of that Socialist nation. At least in America, "We The People" have a chance to better ourselves through hard work and a little luck.
There are _many_ differences between a "text book" Socialist govt. and what Cuba and Venezuela implement. In Cuba and Venezuela, those in power are extremely wealthy and well provided for, while the rest of those two nations suffers. To me that is _nothing_ like what a "text book" Socialist govt. should be. Do you think Mr. Chavez is suffering with his poor? Nope. Do you think Castro is suffering with his poor? Nope. The problem with _every_ Socialist govt. to date is that those in power always take care of themselves first. The rest of the nation comes second.
I personally will take Capitalism and Freedom over Socialism any day. At least with Capitalism I can have a chance to provide for myself if I have the skills and dedication.
That sucks. I had no idea that foreign "aid" was so politically bogged down. If what you state is true, than what Mr. Chaves offered is not really "aid" but only political BS. Just as what Bush "offered" to Venezuelan is only political BS.
I think it is pretty sad IMO. Why should the people of two nations depend on the personal relations of those two nations leaders? I am sure that if you and I or any other Venezuelan and other American go together one-on-one, things would be much different. Both would realize that both are just HUMANS and actually get along.
Well, if you are ever in America, look me up and I would gladly show you around.
Huh? You are comparing the richest man in the world to the people of Mississippi and New Orleans? About 9,000 poor people went to the Super Dome because they had no way out of town (it was the rich and comfortable middle class that got to get out of town).
There are plenty of poor people here in the U.S.A that need help, especially during a devastating event like Katrina. The people of the U.S.A. (not even including the tons of money the U.S.A. govt. also gives) give tons of money every year to people/nations around the world through charities. Yet when we are in need we get crap?
The U.S.A. govt. is not going to pay for all this damage. It will be the private insurance companies that have to pay for it. Guess who has to repay those insurance companies? Yup, that would be us, the customers of those insurance companies. So basically all of us in the U.S.A. have to cover this heavy burden by paying higher insurance premiums, and as it looks now, much higher gas prices. A little help from our so-called "friends/allies" would be most welcome right now. Though I won't hold my breath because there is usually little foreign aid when the U.S.A. is in need because of stupid perceptions like yours.
I live in Central FL and I am financially comfortable. I will be giving what I can to the Red Cross. However, it will take much, much more than I could possible give to make any difference to this people in need.
Hmm, that is pretty nice of him/them. I hope Venezuela follows through and delivers. If so, I think the Bush administration should _really_ reconsider "their" position on him/Venezuela. We as Americans may not totally agree with their government policies, however that doesn't mean we cannot get along and help one another, we are pretty clost to them.
Huh? I am not some Apple zealot (I currently don't even own anything made by Apple). However, I don't see how this topics poster can call what Apple didn't do as a mistake. According to the topic posters own link, Apple has plenty of options. According to the patent attorney quoted in TFA:
Apple, on the other hand, has a lot more options
...
Culpepper said that generally the rule for a patent is the party that invented it first and then diligently worked toward building the product is going to get the patent.
MS comes up with an "idea", patents it (which is really wrong IMO) and then just files it away without doing any work toward implementing this great "idea". Now Apple comes up with the same "idea", however, they actually spend tons of cash to implement it and deliver it to consumers and become the #1 device in their category. Hmm, I wonder who deserve this patent?
Note, I personally do not think this is even worthy of a patent. Though if anyone is to get this patent, it should certainly be Apple who not only came up with the "idea", but also turned it into a viable consumer product. I don't think any "ideas" should be allowed to be patented. IMO, a company should not only have to come up with an idea/innovation, but should also have to implement it into a product ready for consumer "consumption". Anything short of that is just a thought IMO and certainly should not be allowed monopoly protection. I have tons of thoughts and some of them actually make sense, should I be allowed to pay some money and stop others from having the same freaking thought and implementing that thought? Damn, patents are broken!
Have you ever noticed that when people want to say something negative about Christianity they pull quotes from the the Hebrew Scriptures(Old Testament)? The Hebrew Scriptures were given to the Jews not the Gentiles.
The New Testament is quite clear on how Christians should look upon the old laws of the Hebrew Scriptures.
For the whole law(Hebrew Scriptures) is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Galatians 5:14
Your wrong. All the scripture that you quoted is in the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures). Those laws were given to the Jews, not the Gentiles. The New Testament is what was given to the Christians. In fact, the New Testament even says that the old laws of the Hebrew Scriptures are not needed:
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Galatians 5:14
You would be more accurate if you had said
Anyone who claims to be a
Jew but does not follow these rules is picking and choosing the rules they want to follow.
"Real" Christians understand the New Testament and apply it knowing that the Hebrew Scriptures are not needed anymore for laws. The reason that Christianity can get a bad rap is because there are "Christians" who don't even understand their own religion. The whole underlying point of the New Testament is LOVE. No where in the New Testament does it say anything about how you should kill this person or that person because they did XYZ. It is all about love and forgiveness. Jesus forgave Mary for being a hooker and stopped people from stoning her to death. Jesus turned the other cheek, etc, etc.
Yes, I didn't convey my point well. I meant to say the Islam of the Middle East, not Islam in general. I do see a _very_ big difference in Islam between say how it is practiced here in the USA and how it is in the Middle East.
Uh, idiot, the things I posted were not just a few "nutz on the fringe". It was their freaking government. Their supreme court held up the ruling to hang the 16 year old girl in public!
With over a billion Muslims in the world, it is just plain stupid to judge them based on the actions of the most extreme fringes of their society. How would you feel if all white people in the world were treated as if the actions and beliefs of the KKK were their own actions and beliefs?
My statements were not about all Muslims (if it sounded that way then I apologize). My statements were about the majority of Muslims in the Middle East and especially the governments. I have met plenty of nice Muslims here in the USA (my neighbor, for example). The women and children in those nations have zero rights and are treated like objects. If you want to be PC and side step the issue, then fine. However, I don't believe in being PC. The Islam of the middle east is very different from the Islam you see in the rest of the civilized world. In the middle east, females are denied an education, female children are killed if they don't act a certain way. The Muslims of the middle east hate Christians, Jews, Hindus, basically anyone that is not Muslim. The Muslims of the middle east often kill if you are in their land and try to spread a non-Muslim religion. I am not talking about a few "nutz on the fringe". I am talking about millions and millions of middle eastern Muslims. Islam of the middle east is the form of Islam I want to see go away. I don't want to see it spread its hatred and violence through the world.
Thanks, and so are you! There, I came down to your level, feel better?
Second, tell me which "corporation" has legally gotten away with illegally hacking into user computers, then installing a trojan that will allow them to install whatever they want?
Umm, corps have been getting away with tons of crap for a long time now. Toxic waste dumping, damage to the environment, illegal monopolies, etc, etc. My beef is that if it is just a citizen not hiding behind a corporate shield, they often get "made an example of" by the feds. When it is a medium to large sized corp with enough money, they get let off with just a fine.
It seems you have a beef with USA/corporations/capitalism
Nope. I have no beef with the USA, I was born here and even served in the U.S.M.C. I have no beef with all corporations. I work for a fortune 500 that is very ethical IMO. I have no beef with capitalism, I think it is the best system in the world. My brother-in-law just started his own business.
My beef is with the corrupted politicians and the way they sell laws to a lot of the big, rich corps. Those laws some how always manage to screw the little guy.
No, I don't think "public" execution will do any good here in the USA or in Europe. Should we lower ourselves to the pond scum level of the muslims in Iran such as this:
Atefeh Rajabi appears to have been a fairly normal 16-year-old: sulky, disobedient, and eager to have sex. In London, those attributes earn lectures from parents and teachers on the importance of acting responsibly and not being offensive. In the city of Neka in Iran, where Atefeh Rajabi comes from, they get you hauled up in front of a judge.
Atefeh's typical teenage behaviour meant that she was charged and found guilty of "acts incompatible with chastity". The judge in the Islamic court ruled that the appropriate penalty was death. That's right: death. Her sentence was confirmed by Iran's Supreme Court!
Two weeks ago, on August 15, the 16-year-old girl was _hung_from_a_crane_in_the_main_square_ of Neka, in full public view, in order to keep "society safe from acts against public morality"!
This was a freakin 16 year old girl!!
I don't know, maybe being 32, I am "out of touch"? I just never though I would see _any_ society would think it OK to kill a child for doing things a child does such as being curious. I am not extending my emotions to a 17 year old kid who rapes, or kills. To me there is a HUGE difference between a kid who has some experimental sex/drugs/stupidity or is a _little_ rowdy vs. a 16/17/18 year old that KILLS.
How can _any_ human out there defend killing a child for making an innocent mistake like sexual curiosity? Oh, and the guy involved with here received "75 lashes". So the guy get a couple of licks while the girl gets death?
Seriously. Corps here in the USA are constantly allowed to "push the bar" as far as they can. Consumer opinion need not apply. Why is is OK for a "capitalistic" company to personally allowed to cost you money/time, yet if a private person does it, it is a "crime"?
I am soooooo, sick of the politicians and their corruption. I personally don't see any "fix" besides a civil war in the USA to blow the shite out of the corrupted politicians.
How much longer should we sit on our fat @sses and let the big corps have privileges that we as private citizens could only dream of? Why should a corp be allowed to commit a crime and only get fined yet, if a private "citizen" committed the _same_ crime would get jail time?
I personally see nothing wrong with what Diabl0 did. After all, he was looking out for "share holders best interests" to MAKE MONEY, so why shouldn't he be protected just like all the other corps that "just want to make money"?
Dude, your really lost. Do you think Freedom is just about seeing some stinking source code? Get a grip man. Freedom means so much more.
To me it means not seeing a stupid box pop-up saying "I am not allowed to play this video". To me it means not seeing a "this action is not allowed" message when I press the Menu button after putting in my daughters new Disney DVD and being forced to watch 10 minutes of commercials. To me it means not getting "permission denied" type messages when I try to copy/play a song I paid for on a different computer. To me it means not having "copy protection" on a DVD/CD that I PAID FOR, preventing me from making a backup. To me Freedom means so much more than being able to see some source code.
The items I listed (and many, many more) are being DONE TODAY. These are not tactics that will/may come in the future. They happen today in technology to strip away Freedom. Note: I am not talking about freedom to commit copyright infringement. I am talking about basic Fair Use rights that have been gone for some time now. OSes like MS Vista are just going to make Fair Use that much more a thing of the past.
Nope. I never tried Jabber. I have never used IM's much. I just started recently for when my wife needs to ask me a quick question. I found Hello based on a recommendation of a friend and just started using that. I will take a look at Jabber.
But it looks like Jabber runs on port 5222. So that means I cannot use Google Talk from work : (. I only use Hello at work so I can chat with my wife if she needs me for something. I personally would rather use a much more used IM protocol than Hello so I can also chat with other friends at work. Though with our firewall restrictions, only protocols that go over ports 80, 443, 21 and 25 (I know why do the MS admins allow telnet and not SSH?) are allowed.
Oh, and have you used Hello? It is much more than IM and just transfering a file. Hello is Id10T proof. You just click a big button labeled "Transfer Picture" and it lets you pick from using Picasa or Explorer. It also integrates with Picasa so right from Picasa you can send a picture via Hello. I hope Google Talk will have the same features and be Corp-Firewall friendly.
Google Hello lets you send images almost instantly to other Hello users and integrates with Google Picasa very well. Hello also has a built-in IM client for other Hello users. I actually use Hello at work to chat with my wife since all the other IM protocols are blocked where I work and Hello works over HTTP.
Does anyone know if Hello will work with Google Talk? I don't feel like having to run Hello and Google Talk. However, if they do both work together, what would be the point of Google having both Hello and Google Talk?
It's entirely possible they've already started developing MS Linux (or just picked an extant distro that they would standardize on if it came to that) as a contingency, but are keeping it tightly bottled up in-house, with only a small group of developers and execs knowing about it; presumably they have already begun porting over the major cash-cow apps to it (e.g., Office, SQL Server) and are carefully retaining compatibility.
Yes, and it is entirely possible that MS has been secretly funding Al Qaeda in the hopes that all the destroyed nations will only buy MS software. Anything is basically "entirely possible". However, most people would usually like even a _tiny_ bit of evidence before making crazy conspiracy theories.
We know they have a Linux lab, where they do all kinds of experimenting, as well as compatibility work
They sure do. I personally don't like MS as a company at all. However, as far as their Linux lab goes, it is probably to get an understanding of Linux, OSS, the OSS community, the strengths and especially the weaknesses of Linux to leverage from a business perspective than to create "MS Linux".
Putting conspiracy theories aside, what does MS have to gain by switching to Linux? Nothing IMO (and I am a big Linux fan). MS has consistently increased profit year over year, for their "cash cows". MS has developed _all_ of their stuff around Win32 and their MS Windows Kernel. Changing gears now would make no sense. The kernel is one of the _least_ important parts of an OS. Look at Win95/Win98. They both killed Mac/Linux in sales/usage and yet those kernels (if you could even call them that) sucked. They were the most unstable pieces of amateur crap ever. Yet they sold like crap to a fly(???). Why? Because of software! That is what it all comes down to. There have been far better OSes than MS Windows, from a technical point of view, for a long time, yet MS Windows got the commercial developers. That is what made the difference. Until my/your [grand]parents can go and buy some piece of hardware at $YOUR_LOCAL_SUPER_STORE for the OS they use, there won't be major adoption by the Joe-Users.
I set my parents up on Linux (I live 1,200 miles away in Orlando). Everything was great, no spyware, viruses, adware, pop-ups; they used to reboot/shutdown nightly and with Linux they just left it on. However, my pop went out and bought a crappy Lexmark all-in-one printer, scanner, fax, POS. He bought it because of the price and didn't talk to me about it. Well, it didn't work under Linux, and it _couldn't_ work under Linux (I have been using Linux for many a year now). He and my mom wanted it to work, so the only thing I could do was set him up with XP Home and turn on remote desktop and dyndns.org so I could get in his system every month or so to clean it up. He likes that setup better than the more stable Linux setup I made for him. Why? Because he bought some low-end digital camera(which does all he needs) and it works under MS Win but not Linux. He gets his digital prints done at "Walmart" and they give you some crappy CD with an MS-Only exe on it that gives you a "cute" little slideshow. He, just like most Joe-Users, buys product XYZ and it requires MS Winders ; (
My whole point here is most of the success of MS currently has nothing to do with MS. The reason all the users stayed with MS during the _many_ horrid years of MS Win95, Win98, WinME and WinNT 3-4 is because that was where the software was. It had nothing to do with the quality of MS software. Until more commercial software is available at the Joe-User-Stores that Joe-User shops at, Linux and even Mac won't make much gains (sadly since I Luv da macs;) ). Though I will concede that one can get more commercial Joe-User software for Mac than Linux, but it is still nothing compared to MS.
And exactly why would MS do what you suggested? If MS sells "MS Linux", they lose a sale of MS Windows desktop or server which sells for more than they could sell "MS Linux" for. MS makes a huge margin on the sale of MS Windows.
The other problem is TIME. It would take time to port all the big money items to "MS Linux". So now you have a customer who buys "MS Linux Server". SQL Server hasn't been ported yet, so the customer goes and buys Oracle or DB2 both of which run on Linux, or the customer just uses an Open Source DB like PostgreSQL or MySQL. So now MS gets less for the OS sale (vs. a sale of MS Windows Server) _and_ MS loses a big ticket item sale of SQL Server.
The problem you don't see is that there are plenty of Open Source solutions for Linux that would run on "MS Linux" and they may be "good enough" to make a customer not buy extra software from MS, such as MS Office, MS SQL Server, Microsoft Operations Manager, etc.
It seems it would be best for MS to just try to make their software better and spend a small fraction on FUD to work against Linux than to make their own Linux that they would have to sell for less than MS Windows and could also possibly cost them sales of other products.
don't like people who put pretentious things like "Senior Programmer" in their signature
Oh, you just like people who put "witty" sayings in their sig such as yours?
/* Imma squeeze out some more karma by putting a C-style comment in my sig */
Heh, heh, heh. That is just great. I bet your just "the" elite/. user aren't you? Boy, I wish I could have come up with a great sig like yours! I bet your some 133t hacker huh?
Obviously, you're not a Senior Grammatist
Ahh, yes, your sig is a well structured and grammatically correct sentence. Hmm, "Imma squeeze out", yup, that certainly passes the test!
What is more pretentious than putting ones title in their sig, are idiots like you who complain about them. Wake up, I don't come to/. for you or your opinion, neither does the rest of/..
Uh, whoa. Hold on chief. Did you even read my reply to someone else (poster nxtw)? It was a JOKE.
What was that about being a senior programmer, now?
What was that about having an IQ above 80 that would help you understand someone being facetious (I know, it is a big word for you) vs. being serious?
Oh, and thank you "Captain Obvious" for telling us that:
these days, one process can host a myriad of threads, each doing their own thing
I really wish/. would require a simple IQ test before someone could get an account. It would really stop people like you from making incredibly stupid posts!
Umm, nxtw, you must have missed my memo! In the memo I told you to be "surprised" and "elated" about this "new" "technology"! I need to see you in my office, first thing Monday morning.
Oh, and until we speak, you should pretend to be excited about a "new" "technology" that is single threaded and susceptible to the whole process crashing because the _one_ thread it uses dies.
William Colgate started a candle and soap making company in New York City in 1806. By 1906, the company was making over 3,000 different soaps, perfumes and other products. For example, Colgate Dental Cream was introduced in 1877. In 1864, Caleb Johnson founded a soap company called B.J. Johnson Soap Co., in Milwaukee. In 1898, this company introduced a soap made of palm and olive oils, called Palmolive. It was so successful that that the B.J. Johnson Soap Co. changed their name to Palmolive in 1917. Another soap making company called the Peet Brothers Co. of Kansas City started in 1872. In 1927, Palmolive merged with them to became Palmolive Peet. In 1928, Palmolive Peet merged with Colgate to form Colgate-Palmolive-Peet. In 1953, the name was shortened to just Colgate-Palmolive.
Ajax cleanser was one of their first major brand names introduced in the early 1940s.
Huh? This doesn't sound anything like AJAX. AJAX uses asynchronous/synchronous calls backs to the server and you will usually get just XML as a response. From your link you were talking about sending down heavy Java Applets and PostScript. Not even close to AJAX. The link you posted even pointed out the problems:
You see, when Sun created NeWS they
charged a licensing fee to developers for the use of the technology. This wouldn't have been so bad if Adobe didn't also charge a licensing fee for the PostScript technology. Not only that, but PostScript turned out to be a very difficult language for developers to work with due to its Reverse Polish Notation. Combine this with the fact that NeWS was not an open standard, and you end up with a lot of customers who wanted something a bit more open and less expensive.
Hmm, it doesn't even sound close to AJAX IMO. I don't blame developers from passing on a "technology" that they would have to pay Sun _and_ Adobe to use and then be a "difficult language for developers to work with".
Oh, and if you think the big corps are all clean wrt spyware, think again. The big corps have been _the_ big advertising dollars that have kept spyware companies running. How many of these huge corps have been hit as hard as this small-time guy Diabl0? None.

Oh, and the sickness of Islam doesn't end there. Two teenage boys - one under 18 - were publicly hanged by Iran for being gay! (Note: I am not gay, but come on now, killing someone just because they are gay? How sick of a "society" do you have to be to do something like that?)
That is called a typo ; )
Oh, and have you used Hello? It is much more than IM and just transfering a file. Hello is Id10T proof. You just click a big button labeled "Transfer Picture" and it lets you pick from using Picasa or Explorer. It also integrates with Picasa so right from Picasa you can send a picture via Hello. I hope Google Talk will have the same features and be Corp-Firewall friendly.
Does anyone know if Hello will work with Google Talk? I don't feel like having to run Hello and Google Talk. However, if they do both work together, what would be the point of Google having both Hello and Google Talk?
Yes, and it is entirely possible that MS has been secretly funding Al Qaeda in the hopes that all the destroyed nations will only buy MS software. Anything is basically "entirely possible". However, most people would usually like even a _tiny_ bit of evidence before making crazy conspiracy theories.
Until more commercial software is available at the Joe-User-Stores that Joe-User shops at, Linux and even Mac won't make much gains (sadly since I Luv da macs ;) ). Though I will concede that one can get more commercial Joe-User software for Mac than Linux, but it is still nothing compared to MS.
What is more pretentious than putting ones title in their sig, are idiots like you who complain about them. Wake up, I don't come to /. for you or your opinion, neither does the rest of /..
Oh, and thank you "Captain Obvious" for telling us that:
I really wishOh, and until we speak, you should pretend to be excited about a "new" "technology" that is single threaded and susceptible to the whole process crashing because the _one_ thread it uses dies.
