What reporter is going to cover the launch of a new Apple product that everyone knew about before hand?
Answer: they don't. Right before Jobs came back, Apple seriously had this problem with websites like MacOS Rumors (which isn't what it once was) leaking VERY ACCURATE info about 2-3 weeks ahead of the new cycle. When the products actually shipped, the tech press didn't care because if they reported anything, it was the rumor beforehand.
Advertising costs Apple a lot of money and the free advertising they get from reporters is very important.
People eat birds nest soup despite the fact that the birds in question are endangered. It is certainly possible that some alien civilization might consider us to be a delicacy.
But I rather doubt it.
First, I think it is unlikely that we will find anything. If we do find something, I think the most likely scenario is that we find the equivalent of alien TV/Radio broadcasts which we would probably be able to tell weren't natural (maybe it would take a while to determine this, but we could probably say within a few years that yeah, its not some naturally occurring EM radiation.) OK, so then we spend the next 100 years trying to analyze the message to gain any useful knowledge from it. And it would probably come in bits and trickles. We might start sending intentional messages to the source of the signal.
Probably various religious groups would start trying to broadcast messages about Jesus, Mohammed, Joseph Smith, or L. Ron Hubbard to the aliens.
Eventually our linguists might be able to figure out enough of the language to follow some of what the broadcasts are about. Maybe we'd hear the weather forecast on their planet and be able to understand some of it.
I think we would find that the aliens would be like us in some ways and different in other ways that we would have a difficult time understanding.
After some sufficiently long time, we might get a directed signal back to us replying to our messages and then things would get interesting, but it would be a very slow conversation with (perhaps) lifetimes passing between a signal and the reply.
But probably the most likely scenario is that we find nothing.
Adults inherently have more rights Therefore it is easier for politicians to demagogue the issue of teen smoking. Plus, it helps kids get used to the idea that the government owns you.
No, Apple did NOT try that. The hardware that was released by PowerComputing, UMax, Motorola, Radius, etc. was not generic hardware. It was Apple designed motherboards. I think in some cases they were even manufacturered by Apple and placed in the other company's cases. Apple had deals with those guys that didn't make any damn sense (for Apple). Very different from trying to support "generic" hardware.
Bullshit. If you had to spend a year using 10.0.x or 9.0.x which would you pick?
I'd pick 9.0.4 every time. And I like OS X. I evaluated every version of it from Developer Preview 1 up until 10.2. I switched to OS X for daily use when 10.2 shipped. Because for day in/day out use of an operating system I have to get work done, not just admire its microkernel or crash protection.
In the late 1980s, before airbags were mandatory, the only cars that had them were very expensive. I think Mercedes had them in some models (and somehow I'm guessing the high end models), but the car I drove certainly didn't have airbags.
Or they might just do what I do which is say, "Screw watching TV and movies." and find other things to do with their lives. Seriously I don't pirate movies, I don't buy movies, I don't watch movies at all. And a big reason is the rhetoric coming from the MPAA.
I'd put up the Power Mac G5 towers against the Lisa or the Apple II - its pretty well made. Same for XServe. Same for some of the G4 tower systems (Sawtooth comes to mind).
I don't see what Ford Pintos have to do with anything.
Apple (like Sony), has shown again and again that they are SERIOUSLY against homebrewing of any sort I think you need to explain this statement. We're talking about a company that gives away world class development tools (XCode and related tools for MacOS X) for free. I'd hardly say that this means they are "SERIOUSLY against homebrewing of any sort".
I was flying internationally this week. The only paper book I have bought recently and haven't read yet was a collection of the writings of Osama Bin Laden. I almost threw it into my carry on bag without thinking. Then I decided that it would probably get the "bro" to taze me, so I left it home.
Part of why I haven't read it is that I haven't taken it onto the subway with me because I'm afraid it will get me arrested.
First, fair use will only occur if original works are created and original works will only be created if people have some chance of earning a living from them. I disagree with the statement that original works will not be created if you can't make a living from them. There are tons of people who create original works without earning a living from them. Some of them even have record contracts. It would be hard to argue for example that Robert Johnson was compensated by the record industry for his music.
Believe me, if the major record labels go under, there will still be plenty of music.
Bring your gun next time. You need to make sure it is with you so that you can shoot the motherfucker who says something like this in the heat of the moment so that it won't be considered first degree homicide. If you have to go home and get the gun, it tends to lead juries to think that it is premeditated.

Trains are OK. Trains where the track costs $100million/mile I have a problem with.
It isn't that internet gambling is immoral, it is that the casinos in the state are bribing him to criminalize internet gambling. - Captain Obvious.

If the sun is a fusion reactor, then a hydrogen bomb is a fusion reactor too.
Microsoft also has a habit of buying good stuff and ruining it (Connectix).

And say that one of the people he killed was a cop.
More than one Apple engineer at the WWDC beer bash told me that there would be a real SDK released eventually.
You fail it. The date is Oct 1.
How dare they try to make good software and sell it for a profit!
OK. I'd like to put Vista on my Atari 800. Oh! You mean I get to pick what kind of *Windows* PC I want to run on.

There are people still using Lisas and Apple IIs dude.

Coal is at least good for something.
