As an Apple fanboy for the past 20+ years, even I admit that Apple isn't going to have significant marketshare gains in the near future. Even if Leopard gives you a free blowjob every day, it just isn't going to happen.
In court cases, it is generally not the idea to cause the entity you are suing to cease to exist. (Except maybe death penalty criminal cases which clearly the Stac patent infringement case was not.)
I know what a Pyrrhic victory is and the case with Stac doesn't qualify in my opinion. The fact that Stac is no longer in business has nothing to do with the lawsuit.
I think I had an encounter with the SAME WOMAN in Houston a few years ago! She was all over the road and driving a van! Was the van light brown colored?
Your cell phone may not affect your ability to drive, but apparently it inhibits your ability to do arithmetic. 1990 was in fact sixteen years ago - not twenty six.
Just because it isn't conscious doesn't mean it is not the "main point" or "main effect" of these laws. I agree with you. Most politicians vote for things either because of political pressure, or because of bribery, greed, etc. Once in a great while, they vote their principles. However, usually the principles that they vote on are something that is so important to them that they campaigned on it, therefore they aren't going to take political damage for voting that way.
Yes, I'm pretty cynical about politicians. I think I have good reason to be.
You are making an assumption that this will be an adequate defence. If the GPP is in the US, don't count on it. In the US, you must Think of the Children! Once you say kiddie pr0n, then all thinking stops. Plus, the police are always right in the US. So, if they just shoot him they can say, "well maybe we saw a weapon" and that's that.
If Microsoft offers more lenient DRM then I am all for it!
Microsoft's DRM is not more lenient. It is much more strict than Fair Play. I predict you will not love it.
I have one - which I bought in 2002 and it still works perfectly fine.
Next time, don't leave it in your pocket when you wash your clothes.
I can't support anything that Everett True disapproves of.

In all seriousness, why doesn't Apple sell Leopard for like $99 to PC users?
It would gut their hardware business.
we should show some respect - if nothing else for the sake of his family and loved ones
His actions in life do not warrant respect in death. Also, screw his loved ones. Let's piss on them.
FYI - You can configure the Mighty Mouse to have either one or two buttons based on who is logged in.
The point isn't that some things, like Slashdot, are for adults. The point is: Think of the Children!
Until the price drops significantly over the next few years
They will have to do it faster than that!
It is funny. I prefer to use video game console analogies to understand sports.
You see, the Oakland Raiders are just like the Neo Geo whereas the Washington Redskins are more like 3DO...
Anything that is not x86 isn't a computer. If it isn't Microsoft IE, it isn't a web browser.
I don't even know where to start...
He said "installed base", not "marketshare". And he's probably right.
Yeah, I disagree with those too. Same principle.

No, I don't agree with any of the above. I know the courts have upheld limits to free speech, but I think the courts made a mistake.
Even though I disagree with the kid making this icon, I still can't agree with a ruling limiting free speech.
but as stack software learned, suing Microsoft is really, really dangerous
Dude, Stac won.
Very good point.

I'm partial to the video game "King and Balloon" because of the juxtaposition of two such unrelated nouns.

On the other hand, not all cops are bad.
Dead ones are OK.
