ABS is really nice to have. One time I was on the freeway late at night - traffic was moving 70+ MPH and it was bumper to bumper. This was I-5 in Seattle on a Friday around midnight. I'd just finished a workday (programming) for a client.
Car in front of me slams on the brakes. I slam on tthe brakes. Car behind me slams on the brakes.
I stop easily. The car behind me has the wheels locked and she slams into me. The good news is that her insurance pays and mine doesn't have to.
Not in the positive sense of that statement. They can still listen to your conversations and nark you out to the police. They won't assist you if something goes wrong, though.
That's very interesting. My dad was telling me about when he was a child his parents had a refrigerator that ran on natural gas which was in the 40s, so I'm very surprised to hear people were having ice delivered in the 70s. Seems like a refrigerator would have been cheaper than the ice delivery.
I agree with your post except for a minor point. Apple doesn't manufacture anything.
Their computers are made for them by a company called Quantas. They also make Dell systems.
The iPod is made by a company called FoxComm.
I may have misspelled the names of these companies.
Both companies are contract manufacturers in Asia and do work for a wide variety of companies, not just Apple. FoxComm in particular is known for being able to make really nice products very cheaply.
You are completely wrong. Apple will be in the Macintosh business for a long time to come. Also, in a later post you are incorrect in saying that their marketshare isn't increasing. It is.
Local and state governments were thoroughly incompetant, and FEMA was unable to force their way in thanks to that pesky Constitution that gives states power in times of crisis (not that FEMA was all that on-the-ball either).
most Americans (and most politicians) generally realize these laws are bad and our country shouldn't have ever passed them.
I think you would be terribly surprised at the level of ignorance about history and the shallowness of political thought among Americans - both among the general public and politicians.
I'm willing to bet that if you go to any street corner in any US city and ask 100 people a question avbout the sedition acts from the civil war or world war II that 70+ won't have any idea what the hell you are talking about. Another 20 will have only a vague idea.
Similar results if you went to DC and asked members of congress.
What the author complains about and his vitriol against humanities graduates have the same basic cause - people being incompetent outside of a narrow area of expertise.
The difference is that journalists covering those other fields they know nothing about are expected to do their homework
I have sat in on city councel meetings and then read newspaper articles about the same meeting where the article did not match what went on at all.
Robert Heinlein once observed that he had been on the scene when major international news broke 4 separate times and each time the news stories did not match the facts as he saw them at all.
The recent trend of news becoming more politicized adds nothing IMHO to its accuracy. Every fact that doesn't line up wtih the political views of the news organization is either thrown out or otherwise discredited.
not to mention the stupid white 'ipod' earphone people - so pretentious you want to just beat them for thinking they're so 'cool'
How dare they have self esteem!
I don't know about you, but the money I paid for my BOSE set was worth it.
To me, the money you paid for your BOSE set was also wortth it.

The spinning wheel is what's keeping you up. In an emergency situation, I could see an advantage of ABS on a motorcycle - even a small one.
Hey why not, my Vespa GT already has automatic transmission.
A friend of mine leased an Audi about a year ago and he is terribly unhappy with it. I just bought a car and I am so glad I didn't buy an Audi.
I was considering an Audi TT which are very cool, but after what he had to say about his Audi, there was no way.
If you don't pay, it goes away?

have all of the class and dignity that I have come to associate with Scott McNealy.

Let me say this again so you can understand:
Nott going to happen.
Why not adjust your settings to hide articles about Apple instead of bitching about it?

So what is the problem with running it on any piece of hardware that can run it?
Apple likes staying in business.
Wow, you must be older than God.

Your tax cuts at work.
Like everyone on slashdot, my expertise is talking out of my ass.
They probably marked it "flamebait" because he used the words "racism" and "free speech" in the same post.

There are 13 year old black people who wear ties? Other than Eurkle?
Somtimes it is blue with fluffy white spots. Othertimes it is black with shiny white dots.

Windows sucks.
Use Linux or MacOS X.
They treat their test engineers badly.
Oh, come on. I'm sure this email is actually sent by a VB script to a list of names every 24 hours. They don't do any checking - just blind trolling.
