    Exactly!

Apple made their repuptation with 'Think Different' (a jibe at IBM's old 'THINK!' slogan) and have always denegrated the corporate culture, prefering to be the hip, arty guys in black, roll-neck sweaters. They have always encouraged cultish behavior and a sense of (misplaced) elitism in their user base.

I don't suppose differently-thinking marketing execs at Apple ever thought they'd want to sell into big, bad corporations. But oh look! suddenly they do!

I guess the old adage 'you reap what you sew' fits nicely.

I have about 20 W2K SP2 boxes that run 24x7 under heavy transaction loads (serving midlayer COM components to front-end DB2). None of these have had an unscheduled reboot in over 2 years. No resource creep. No performance degredation. In fact, no issues at all.

Well done to the people who designed this gadget. It's very neat, but more importantly, it points the way ahead for 'commodity' computing, I think.

I imagine soon, everyday computing for most people will revolve around one or more I/O devices they have access to (mobile phones, TV's, terms in public spaces and cafes etc.)

CPU power, memory, bandwidth, storage and usage of applications will be provided by large network suppliers.

Nobody's going to stop you running and maintaining your own box, but most people will just buy the I/O device (display, cam, audio, keyboard, mouse 'unit' etc.) packaged in whatever form they prefer - much as they buy cellphones now.
