    Lindows is good advertisement for Linux, but for all wrong reasons - root login, anti-virus etc.. Secondly, Lindows has subsidised the SCO vultures. Despite all the hype about XBox cracking, no one but Microsoft has benefitted from the hack.

    It's tough supporting someone who paid SCO.

    They can't. 'Cos this isn't news, it's just conjecture. SCO's only saying they 'may' sue RedHat, and that's passed of as news! Well, I may takeover SCO . Let's see if this gets reported at Slashdot :^)

    The article only says SCO may countersue, and that's enuff for Slashdot to give them attention! It's an insult to the justice system when a firm can file a suit and talk any nonsense it chooses - the only recourse to stop the fallout on aggrieved parties is for them to countersue!

    Why can't SCO be made to shut up until after their IBM case is decided?? Looks like a classic case of Emperor's New Clothes, and 'Who Will Bell the Cat?'

    ssshhhh... SCO might claim tar is System V code that's been copied into Linux. Let's try bitumen or asphalt or pitch - AFAIK there aren't Unix or Linux commands like that.

    Well, atlast SCO gave advance warnings a long time before they started the farce. Quite unlike Microsoft- 3 years on, I don't know what .Net is, and I doubt anybody does, that includes MS.

    SCO seems much better than MS in comparison.

    I guess the penalty in Germany for selling a binary-only license far exceeds $700. SCO can't afford the bad press that's likely to follow a successful purchase of the new license. Methinks the $700 amount is designed to ensure nobody ever buys the license!

    OTOH, it appears a fraction of a desktop Linux distro is worth $700 whereas a full-fledged Win2K3 server costs just $500. Goes to show how much superior Linux is, compared to Windoze.

    The fact that RedHat has to wait for months to get a possible injunction, while SCO & Co keep pumping their stocks and FUD - well.. this is a direct indictment on the way the justice system works(?) in the US.

    It took all of 7 days fot LinuxTAG to shut up SCO in Germany, likewise in Poland and Australia. If SCO is yet to prove it's case, why is it possible for it to keep yelling everyday? The US justice system is too free, maybe

    I doubt Novell's any less of a crook than SCO, atleast as far as their position towards Linux is concerned. Atleast SCO is openly against Linux, Novell tried to curry favor initially, and later gave up without a semblance of resistance.

    Secondly, I doubt Novell and SCO are very different at the top - both seem to be owned by the same set of 'litigious bastards' (to quote Slashdot).

    My reading is that SCO wanted to buy Evolution and dump it like AOL did Netscape. Since it'd look obvious, they asked Novell to do the job for them instead. I can't think of any other explanation for this, specially since Novell has had very little to do with Linux and Open Source.

    Novell seems to have a pooorer reputation after the SCO imbroglio on copyright ownership. In fact, there seems to be little difference in the people owning Novell and SCO.

    I'd be very surprised if Novell dumps Evolution like AOL dumped Netscape AND Mozilla. IMO, this is the WORST news for Linux in recent times, worse than the fake SCO threats actually.

    Novell's takeover of Ximian is likely to be as useful to Ximian's products - as AOL's takeover was to Netscape's products.

    Watch out for total disintegration of Evolution in about a year's time. Can't say I'm too sad tho' Evolution took ages to load, was pretty unstable, and bloated as well.

    Goog riddance to good rubbish then...

    that doesn't cover any/all cases at all. Businesses with Windows servers can't turn off RPC (and sometimes can't turn off DCOM)

    In other words, what the parent is trying to say is this "This doesn't appear to be a terrorist kind of attack at all. It appears to be a move to get people patching and/or upgrading their Windows systems. It's fairly obvious which firm benefits from both of the above.

    Kind of sick acually, but that's how MS made most of it's $45 bn.

    Every gram counts on such travels, and I would never be able to take a 80x25 screen with me.

    I didn't imply that you carry a VT100 terminal with you. A small 80x25 LCD screen, USB interface for kbd., a mobile interface to the ISP - that's what is required for a mobile VT100 device. That could be a very simple, low cost, flexible, powerful option for most of us.

    A cellphone is less useful than a dumb VT100 terminal. Granted, you can't carry the terminal around, but if people would build a simple 80x25 screen with a tiny keyboard,that gets a login prompt from the service provider, that could be the most useful innovation since sliced bread.

    Building intelligence into the client, but making data-input difficult, and not using standard protocols - seems a huge waste of money and bandwidth.
