    Now THAT'S an advantage of glasses that people often forget. It's nice to always have a layer of tough polycarbonate (or whatever glasses are made from now) protecting your squishy, delicate visual system at all times.

    Dude, I want sunglasses. I have never worn sunglasses before. Then I can have optical protection, and look cool like all the other kids that beat me up in high school.

    I WAN'T MacOS software, it's user friendliness, simplicity, consistency and excelent graphical core with all that eye candy on my x86 machine. Without a loss of speed. Clear enough?

    No, but it sets a broad ranging precedent. You fail to see the big picture.

    Oh and the European legislation certainly is stealthy, except for it being widely covered in news stories, well, kind of like this one. So you're spot on once again.

    Really? Care to take a short walk outside (assuming you're Euro) and ask some people on the street what they think of software patents? Widely covered, indeed.

    And ALL software patents are evil. Not just the stupid ones, but the ones in which actual non-obvious invention is ocurring.

    "Grouped taskbar icons" is not anymore an invention than the unique shade of pink Crayola uses for its "mauvelous" crayon.

    Please learn from our mistakes. Don't let stealth legislation ramrod you into 1984. It starts with patents and ends with your freedom. Don't let this opportunity slip by.

    If you're a democracy, then you're a constituent, and your opinion matters, as long as it's heard. E-mail works good, but snail mail works better. Better than all of that, however, is a phone call.

    Fair enough. Just remember though, that by your very argument, the folks that made Windows truly useable are the folks that develop GNU/Linux.

    So I gotta ask, why use the imitation when you can use the real thing?

    That's a pretty cogent reason to upgrade from 2.6.3, as I have been having probs with sound. Still, if you already have 2.6.5, 2.6.7 may be an unnecessary upgrade.

    Now, once they put out a fix for that 20-line shell exploit, I imagine everyone will have a good reason to upgrade.

    Those of use still running P3-500's on old mobo's don't have very many compelling reasons to upgrade from 2.6.3.

    If in doubt, don't upgrade unless you need new support for essential hardware or need to cover a security vulnerability. I leanred that after b0rking several systems trying to keep my kernel perpetually updated.

    They are simply a customer, licensing Unix System V, just like every other commercial Unix vendor out there.

    Maybe you missed the news flash, but Sun also happens to have been a major contributor to SCO's legal war chest, and continues to be an antagonistic purveyor of anti-FOSS FUD.

    If you want to put every company that supports SCO on your little commie shit-list because they're funding the destruction of Linux, you might as well put IBM (AIX), HP (HP-UX), SGI (Irix) on there too.

    Yes, I'm aware those companies have proprietary Unices, since I do, in fact, have a clue. Let me clue you in: if I was anti-commercial-Unix, I'd be railing against IBM, HP and SGI. The fact that I did not mention those companies should have told you something. I'll spell it out for you, anyway: IBM, HP, and SGI didn't join MS in propping up SCO as an opportunity to regain lost ground in Unix marketshare. Their attitude towards open-source can also be described as cynical at best, and use FUD to stave off their own impending obsolescence.

    All three of those companies you listed also happen to make a substantial profit from Linux, and their futures are tied inextricabley to the FOSS movement.

    If the pirates are trying to install SP2, then they already have Windows installed. That means MS has already got their marketshare boost, and need not worry about actually supporting the pirate.

    After all, do you really think all those pirates are going to say, "Darn you, Microsoft!" and go install Gentoo?
