Did the company have any legal grounds? Was it right for me to keep working for free?

Apple almost succeeded with the iPod (and may yet with their partnership with HP), if it were priced in the general consumer range.

However, what good will the Apple IIe commands do me in using an iPod?

I'm a little bitter, I wasted so much time learning Apple programming/commands. I drank the Kool-Aid Apple was serving and never thought different. When I turned 14, and realised that all my friends were using PCs, I had a lot of catching up to do.

It was because of DOS that I made an easy transition to *nix, not because of Oregon Trail on an Apple IIe or word processing on a Macintosh.

I meet a lot ppl in my age group that claim to have been really good with computers back in high school (using Apples), but are completely lost when you give them a flashing cursor at a command prompt or are asked to ctrl+alt+dlt to login.

So despite MS's and Apple's attempt to seed the market with skills, it is ultimately the market that determines the skills required to succeed.

I wish someone would sue a Linux distro, so Linux could be given to schools in lieu of being fined. Give the students some universally useful computer skills.

  15. Open appeal to all Star Wars fans on Footage From Star Wars: Episode III · · Score: 1

Episode III is coming, it is going to make Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox a lot of money. Lucas is going to do things his way. Star Wars fans will go see it. These are the four facts we cannot do anything about.

However, I make an open appeal to all Star Wars fans. Don't see this film until the second week.

    This accomplishes two things:

    1. If we can deny Lucas the #1 release spot, his Distributors and the Executives are going to take a second look of Lucas' carte blanche.

    2. If we can deny Lucas the #1 release spot, we will voice our opinion in a way that even Lucas cannot deny.

I'm not advocating a complete boycott, we sat through Episodes I and II, we've earned the right of seeing the closure of the first act. But when we spend our money, do it in a way that Lucas, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox will actually notice.

Don't see Episode III until the second week of release.

  20. Can I get over the stigma of my last job? on Getting Over the Stigma of a Previous Job? · · Score: 5, Insightful

It's tough moving away from a former employer. I recently left a position to pursue better opportunities. My former employer (really the owner) was furious that I had the gaul to leave. They threatened me with lawsuites, they harrased me. They just couldn't let go.

I gave that company three long hard years, and developed some absolutely killer applications for them. Now, if an prospective employer calls them, they make me out to be some malicious, spiteful Developer who left them high and dry. Three years of stellar work... down the drain.

With that said, I guess the best advice is that employment is like a marriage, you need to check them out, just as much as they do you. Else your left with stigma of the former employer, either you on them, or them on you. Either case, it's not good.
