  1. Lottery on Fans Attempting to Pay for Enterprise · · Score: 2, Insightful

Why not have a lottery? Each "ticket" costs US$20 and if enough money is raised, 3 winners are selected for roles on Enterprise. If enough money isn't raised to save the show the money is transfered to Amazon, (or other online retailer), and each ticket becomes a US$20 gift card.

Now there is a "carrot" for those who want to donate and a way out if enough money isn't raised.

  2. Stupid Mistake on The 83-Year-Old Dead File Swapper · · Score: 1

Just goes to show you that the record companies are too greedy to spend some of their money on a decent investigator and legal team.

A decent investigator would have noticed that the person didn't own a computer, and a decent legal team wouldn't have lost track of the defendant long enough for them to die.

The university I am at just changed from Coke to Pepsi. An article in our school paper stated that the university gets US$0.84 per 20oz bottle for Dr. Pepper and Seven Up products and US$0.70 per 20oz bottle of Pepsi. The cost to the student is US$1.25 per bottle.

Not sure what the terms of the old Coke contract were.

  4. Long Term View on Do You Want to Live Forever? · · Score: 1

Maybe with longer lifespans people and governments would stop taking a short-term view of things like global warming or pollution and some good could actually be done.

After all, its one thing to be dead and gone when we run out of fossil fuels or the world overheats but quite another if you are going to have to live through it.

  5. Re:Whose fault on NYT on EA Games · · Score: 5, Insightful

It is easy to say that people should not accept a job, or that they can quit. However, if they have a family to support, or have a medical condition and need the money or insurance coverage, not having a job for a few weeks while they find a new one might not be an option.

  6. Re:Wait a sec ... on California Considers Tracking Your Car · · Score: 1

Actually, if they bothered to enforce the law it could make a VERY big difference. If the 10% were enforced at the dealer level as:

"You can only sell 90 "regular" cars/trucks/SUVs until you have sold 10 ZEVs."

This would mean the dealers would have to drop the prices of the ZEVs (in order to sell them) so they could reap their huge profits by selling more SUVs. This would force the dealers to raise the price of SUVs to offset the loss from dropping the price of the ZEVs.

It would work great. Those who want the gas-guzzlers pay more, and those who want to protect the environment get a price break buying their ZEV.
