And all this time, I thought the purpose of PDAs was so you could entertain yourself in boring meetings and yet, look like you were taking notes. I mean come on, with that IR port so you can play IR Pong with the person across the table??
"until they develop a digital technology that invades my ass without my permission"
that would be the 'Ultra-Intrusive Special Platinum Limited Edition'... see, no problem?;)
On a side note, given that your ass is on your face, you'll likely be much more susceptible to those ass invading ads when they're created compared to those of us that sit on ours.
My Rio has this problem of draining the battery if I leave it in so a new battery will go dead after a couple weeks even if I don't use it. Maybe you could design a printer with a really big ink well and a cartridge that would slowly leak into it while not in use. Then people would either have to remove the cartridge between use and store it upside down or replace it every couple of weeks.
Gee, I really should start my own business with all of this innovative thinking.
" Ok fine...
"Hi this is steve from the network operations center. we have been noticing that your machine has been accessing unapprove websites. I need to verify this is you. What is your login?"
"Ok thanks"
2 days later... "Hi this is dave from Information services, we are setting up a new internal website to make human resources files easier for you to access, claim forms and such.. what password would you like?"
9 times out of ten I will get their network login."
So now you're telling me we won't really have a new internal web site? Thanks a lot for getting my hopes up Dave. See if I ever give you my password again.
"maybe you'll see that there is value to not discussing salaries"
Possibly, but I think there is value in discussing salaries as well. Otherwise the review process can be abused.
I agree with your points that raises are based on my factors including how long you've been with the company, what value you bring to the company and how much work you accomplish. However, personal feelings often get in the way when a manager is making decisions. I've seen ocassions when a person's raise depended solely on how much of a suck up they were and that's really not what it should be about. I've seen another case where a person got a higher raise and the justification was because he had a family to support. IMO, someone's personal life should not have any effect on their raise.
Now, do I go around talking to everyone about their salary.. not really. Have I at times.. yes. Of course I work in a state funded institution making our salaries public knowledge so it's not exactly a big secret.
" Stan lee just has to "discover" a couple of "unpublished" comic strips that involve Spiderman being gay and dying in some way. Sony and Marvel won't touch spiderman w/ a ten foot pole after that! The creative power is still in Lee's hands...he just needs to make use of it! Sony and Marvel will give up their claims...and Lee will get royalties galore! Easy solution."
and then after Sony forgets about Spider-Man, we'll find out that he really got aids from the spider, not the rumored gay boyfriend.
"IMO, I will not let 3d demons be a part of my entertainment, which only serves to bring those demons which do exist even closer."
shit dude! you're right. I was laughing my ass off while I played this old copy of Doom but then I looked out my window and there were bunnies everywhere... er rather bunny heads on pikes. Quick! Where's my shotgun and chainsaw?!?!?!
"Is anyone else a bit dissappointed that the focus on games seems to be the rendering engine and the color depth and frame rates. Doom/Quake sorta started all the emphasis on 3d graphics. I miss the old days of plain old gameplay"
That's what ID does now. Make a really good engine and a game to show it off so other people will license it and make the games which look really good and have a bit more depth.
good example: Quake3 -> Jedi Outcast
" Funny response. But seriously, though, people should bitch'n'moan about the performance of a leaked alpha for chrissakes. I... Oops, got to go."
no doubt.. i remember trying to get the quake3 alpha to run on my voodoo banshee:)
After that experience, I decided I didn't really need to ruin my first impression of any other game like that.:)

The other night I was playing UT and it crashed. Windows said I didn't have enough space left for vram and to clean up my main drive. Poor thing only had 40gb free. Nice to know someone can write a Java app to clean that up for me now.
"Because your immediate path to success is tied to the company's success, the consultants is not."
That's a bit of a broad generalization isn't it? What if I'm one of those people that has a 2 year plan or something where I'm only at my current job to get a couple years of experience so I can go elsewhere.
Or in the case of my employer, what if the consultant isn't a typical contractor with a specific job that ends after a month. We have people considered temporary consultants that have been here 2 or 3 years doing ongoing maintenance work.
Furthermore, if I'm a consultant and I do a shitty job for my employers, they're not going to be very interested in hiring me for other projects and won't have anything good to say if they're called for a reference check.
"As an employee (especially if you affect the bottom dollar - because you are pivotal, or the company is small) you have a different responsability to make the organization a success, including a higher need to stick your neck on the line."
Why should I be more obligated to make the company a success than a half time consulting employee that makes twice as much as I do? Personally, I think you should do the right thing regardless of what kind of employee you are.

On a more serious note, why does it have to be consulting? I'm a full time employee and I'm asked to do stupid stuff all the time.

So again, what is the point of cheating?... to prove that you an untalented, selfish ass???
I agree. In fact, if I find myself on a team that's continuously beating the other, I'll often switch because I get bored when there's no challenge.
However, people are just different and some think if they win even by cheating that makes them better than everyone else. Maybe they think the simple fact that they know how to cheat makes them better than everyone else. I would guess these type of people are losers that are hated and belittled by everyone they know.
Then you have the people that just get pleasure out of pissing off other people on the server. I think they prefer team killing over cheating though.
So the point of cheating, some people get their jollies from making you mad. That's just a sad fact of life.

I think you may have discovered why it was sitting in an unused room.

The thing that got me was the roughened up brushed metal look. Reminded me of the hull of some near futuristic space ship from something like Aliens.
Thanks for the tips. I always have such a hard time coming up with new passwords. Now I'll never run out of ideas.
