thanks for proving my point further. the ice in the past had much _longer_ times to melt at higher temperatures, a greater rate of change today would give the ice _less_ time to melt.
this article is complete hogwash.
i remember when crap like this would not have been posted on slashdot. on second thought, no i don't. keep up the good work, i guess.
TFA says it is global warming uncovering these bacteria that are 8 million years old...
They don't point out that in the last 8 million years the earth has been much warmer than it is today, at many different times.
At least they didn't break out the OMG its humans driving SUVs stuff. Still though, it seems like an article with an agenda. Just report about the bacteria, kthx.
Probably was McAfee. Which was a fantastic scanner at the time. Oh how things have changed since then. Sad to see both McAfee and Norton/Symantec turn into useless piles of garbage considering what they once were...
Through human history, 99.9% of people had to work from sunup to sundown to even have a chance at survival.
'Go out and hunt some food a couple of hours a day'.... you go try that and see how it works out for you. Remember all it takes is no food for a day or two and you're dead....
I'll take my current 8 hour day where I spend good chunks of it on slashdot and fark, then go play with my son....
its actually quite hilarious, check out the link - there's no actual goatse buried in there anywhere - people making goatse cookies, painting goatse references on things, bumper stickers, etc
Einstein did horribly in school... I'd argue that 'school' is just to raise the general populace - the truly gifted will find it to be more of a hindrance than a help. Nerds tend to be self-taught from what I have seen.
... but it took capitalism to create the formula for the drug in the first place...
without capitalism _nobody_ would get this drug.
so i'd say its not humanity vs capitalism, rather humanity benefiting from capitalism, and brazil and thailand aren't helping any.
you don't know crap about what I think, but I see that won't stop you from rambling on against your imaginary right wing bogeymen.
asse? chodderhead?
are you bulgarian or something?
I guess if the freezing doesn't kill it, there isn't anything else that will either.
I bet boiling would work...

(he wouldn't just type thud, would he?)
(maybe he was dictating)
(oh shut up)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the GPL cover a lot more things than just Linux?
I don't know why all these "China & censorship" stories are relevant to slashdot. There's not really any tech angle here.
Ever hear of the term 'IT' ? Informational Technologies?
I'd say this certainly involves the transfer of information, or lack thereof.
... when you're already living on a bare minimum diet?

who in the hell do you pull for in this one?
no really its weather
i do pavement testing for a living
i could go into a bunch of details but thats what I do all day at work so its about the last thing I care to do now
and I don't give a crap if you believe me or not, but really, its weather, 50 times so anywhere that ever drops below freezing as is where I live
(above only applies to freeways and interstates, I don't have the data for your local neighborhood)
Weather damages the road far more than cars do....

A penny per usage

My mom was pregnant with me when she went to see the first star wars movie. Waited in a line that stretched several blocks.
...30 in a few months... yay =/
Maybe thats why I became such a geek.
Einstein did horribly in school... I'd argue that 'school' is just to raise the general populace - the truly gifted will find it to be more of a hindrance than a help. Nerds tend to be self-taught from what I have seen.
Really.... no mention of anything using electricity, or fancy mechanics, or anything like that.
