    thanks for proving my point further. the ice in the past had much _longer_ times to melt at higher temperatures, a greater rate of change today would give the ice _less_ time to melt.

    this article is complete hogwash.

    i remember when crap like this would not have been posted on slashdot. on second thought, no i don't. keep up the good work, i guess.

    TFA says it is global warming uncovering these bacteria that are 8 million years old...

    They don't point out that in the last 8 million years the earth has been much warmer than it is today, at many different times.

    At least they didn't break out the OMG its humans driving SUVs stuff. Still though, it seems like an article with an agenda. Just report about the bacteria, kthx.

    Through human history, 99.9% of people had to work from sunup to sundown to even have a chance at survival.

    'Go out and hunt some food a couple of hours a day'.... you go try that and see how it works out for you. Remember all it takes is no food for a day or two and you're dead....

    I'll take my current 8 hour day where I spend good chunks of it on slashdot and fark, then go play with my son....

    i do pavement testing for a living

    i could go into a bunch of details but thats what I do all day at work so its about the last thing I care to do now

    and I don't give a crap if you believe me or not, but really, its weather, 50 times so anywhere that ever drops below freezing as is where I live

    (above only applies to freeways and interstates, I don't have the data for your local neighborhood)

    Einstein did horribly in school... I'd argue that 'school' is just to raise the general populace - the truly gifted will find it to be more of a hindrance than a help. Nerds tend to be self-taught from what I have seen.

    ... but it took capitalism to create the formula for the drug in the first place ... without capitalism _nobody_ would get this drug. so i'd say its not humanity vs capitalism, rather humanity benefiting from capitalism, and brazil and thailand aren't helping any.
