Agreed 100%, the advice in the book may seem counter-intuitive, since most business books emphasizes a hyper-competitive, every man for him/herself environment, however try to follow the advice in the book for a month or so and you will see a difference. If you can humanize yourself to people, they will be less rude to you. If you show interest in their projects they will open up about what they are trying to accomplish and deadlines. There are some people who are anti-social, however for the most part they are in the minority
Not all sites will want to use https/certificates. Non-https sites will want to make sure that customers are properly directed to their authentic site.
One more is low-cost competition. GM basically ignored their foreign counterparts and was convinced people would continue to "Buy American". I think this is a strategic move by Microsoft, as they realize that the profit margin on operating systems will decline significantly in the next few years.
Intelligence is not a trump card however, in your example it's unlikely that primitive weapons would do anything than annoy a bear, and the body count on the human side would be too high to be sustainable.
Since you plan to release this as open source, I expect that you believe there are others who would be interested in this software. I would try to identify other people who may be interested in it. Then see if they have the time/talent or know others who do that could assist.
Andy Hertzfeld was esponsible for the original Mac GUI, worked with General Magic, eazel. Had a great amount of influence on the interfaces of systems that we use today
America is very concerned about minority rights, more so than other nations, simply because we have many more minority groups. Womens right's groups have been able to keep porn out of the mainstream, because it dehumanizes a particular group, which is seen as "unfair". Violence, although not good, is pretty much across the board, which is seen as "fair".
Unfortunately for Transmeta, the market for ultraportable laptops never materialized. Consumers chose either PDA's, or mid-size laptops, and skipped the ultraportable laptops that Transmeta's chips were ideal for. They're not through yet, and I suppose they could refocus and try to target the PDA market, but the margins there are slim, and Intel is muscling in on the market w/ the XScale
The 24 hour news channels are pretty much entertainment lightly wrapped in hard news. Most people can't watch hard news for more than half an hour which is why the Nightly News and local news are usually limited to that length. In order to make it palatable for lengthy periods of time, the 24 hour channels have to water it down with light news programs that provide entertainment value.
I'm not sure why Palm is so reluctant to implement this feature in the standard Palm OS. Handera seems to have implemented it fairly seamlessly, and it seems like it would be a feature that people would want
Although it turned out to be useful in this case, isn't it a bit disconcerting that someone with a random grudge against you can dig up that much information against you. It almost seems as though identity theft is accessable to average people now, instead of specialized criminals.
The biggest security problem is people are vulnerable to social engineering. It is too easy to get someone to share alphanumeric passwords, pictures would make it much harder for people to share passwords. However it seems a little late for this to take off, as biometrics are coming down in price, and will mostly eliminate the problem.

Are there any public DNS servers that are using this? I have to use a tunnel to get to the IPv6 Internet, so I'm pretty sure my ISP is not interested.

The exact same thing happened to me, and I bet it's happened to others. Maybe we get together file a class action !
I think the author of the article has vastly underestimated the complexity of X-Windows.
I don't know, there have been times when NTFS made me want to kill somebody

It's disappointing to see that a computer security paper written 30 years ago is still relevant today.
Now only if someone could invent a robot that looks for hot chicks and hoses them down

Could I heat the coffee by running a webserver on it and posting and article on slashdot linking to it??

Does that mean the end for Jon Katz too?
It's an interesting idea, but what's to keep spammers from blanketing the globe with MLM schemes and X10 ads?
