I believe that there are a group of kids who would do better learning a trade skill then sitting through the hell that is modern day high school.
Up through middle school the basics should be emphasized and sports / team building activities encouraged.
After that those who want to go on to collage go through a prep school. Those that do not want to go to collage can become an apprentice to learn a craft.
America is loosing its skilled craftsman just as fast as it is loosing its intellectual edge.
This was used during the Shuttle recovery in Lufkin. All the first responders had cell phones and overloaded the network in Lufkin within the first day of the incident. Calls keep getting dropped and the cell phones became unreliable, adding much to the stress levels.
They put up one of the COW's just outside the command post and it helped resolve the issue.
Gentoo. A minor distribution.
Maybe for a Microsucking FUD spammer who can't even figure out how to install a sound card. Well what do you expect from someone who still uses Windows 95.
A group of us (five total) quite and formed our own consulting company back in '97. We then turned around and sold our services back to the original company (three of us stayed on for about another year).
The money earned by keeping three of us at the company payed to keep our company running that first year. We then rode the Y2K wave of software upgrades which put us in a really great position $$$ wise. We were growing strong until......
....one of the original five got greedy. We attempted to branch out into another area (software develpoment) but then attempted to merge with two other companies. After the dust settled there wasn't much left.
Leasons learned: Trust but Verify, Get it in Writing, Read What You Sign, Keep Abreast of the Companies Condition, Don't Get Greedy
When I first started using Linux I did the usual, RedHat, SuSE, Mandrake, blah blah blah. I ran the nice little installer, opened my desktop, ran a few programs, but I couldn't tell you what was where or how to effectively fix broke things.
Then I tried Gentoo and now I feel like I have learned something about Linux. I found out where configuration files went because I had to. I learned how to compile the kernal because I had to. I learned how to install freaking network cards because I had to.
I don't know if my machine is "leaner and meaner" but you know, I had a lot more fun doing building it.
I agree.
Michael Dell could fart and SlashDot would jump to the conclusion that Dell's are going to be shipped with Linux.
If it makes them more money then it will happen. If it does not then it won't.
Just offer them Free Sodas and Pizza and they are yours for life.
They must have just seen Spiderman 2 and thought "Ya know, if Doc Ock can do it so can we!"
Yeah know, I don't care.
Rioters have a choice: Be nuked, be tear gassed or be shot. The options are there and are proportional to the amount of damage they are doing.
Just don't do it in my neighborhood.
Screw that! This is WAR - Nuke the bastards!

Didn't Sony have an issue a few years back with their digital camera's seeing through bathing suits? Wasn't it have something to do with IR?
Was their fix to add IR filters?

I have a radiant barrier in my house and I've always wondered if it blocks Wi-Fi or not.
Any electrical engineers in the audiance?

Because the person who controls the computers and the websites are Government Employees.
CYA! Hell, screw you, CMA!
Plus, they ain't the most sophisticated folk out there. The people I know in government jobs only want job security and lifetime benefits.
