Stifling free speech happens in the U.S. often too. Many times not by the government as a whole but but the minority. Conservatives, for instance, are often stifled on college campuses, in the media, and elsewhere by left-leaning people in private industry, academia, and even by the judicial branch of government. This happens because of socialist influences. Given the predisposition to polical correctness via these influences, I'll take a Republic. Right now, it works the best. It could work better, sure. There are laws that just seem to be ignored (representatives getting away with breaking finance laws and the like). But there are so-called minorities getting away with illegal activity too (aliens crossing the border unmolested).

Let me get this straight, you altered the kernel of Linux so it would work for you and now it's "unacceptable" that you have to show your changes? So you'd rather go to Windows where you CAN'T change the kernel, probably couldn't get Microsoft to alter it for you, and would be SOL? And all of this is the GPL's fault? As I understand the GPL, it's really very simple. If you alter GPL code, you have to post your changes. If you write any code that is comprised of GPL code, you have to post your code. I'm not absolutely certain using a GPL compiler would require your finished product to be open, but perhaps you're right there. What you're describing, in general, is someone who used GPL code, changed GPL code, but doesn't want to "give anything back." You came to the wrong place for sympathy.

I disagree. The main problem is the "perception" of no support. I'll grant you that ther are some applications for which there is little support. You have to find it, for sure. But with Windows it's hardly like each server comes with a guy to teach you every application that that server has running. Linux can fill the gap just like Windows. Most companies buy software from a vendor and the vendor comes in and does the setup. Learning their app on Linux is no more difficult than with Windows. Once you learn the power of Linux, you'll find you have so much more control than under Windows. All that and you've saved a bundle! Windows has it's place. I've always said, Windows is an applications platform. Frankly, if you run a small business and are purchasing Windows servers, you're ignorant. The money you could save with Linux leaves no justification for Windows. Put that money in something useful. Buying Windows is a simply a waste.

It's menu editting tool, the last time I used is which was very recent, often didn't work. Default menus are often poorly arranged and not arranged as they appeared on the surface. I look forward to the day when KDE is as robust as OSX or even Windows. It's not there yet. But that is a technical discussion. As for sitting down and using it out of the box, OSX is just more stylish than Windows and more robust than KDE. I sincerely hope Linux can enjoy the same level of usability one day.
