Why not make the players at the table type in a word from one of those scrambled images to join each hand like yahoo and others use to deter bot signups. I haven't looked yet to see if those are defeatable w/ some tricky code but probably are =\
I ran into this oracle install problem on my Debian Sid/ kernel 2.4 system..

Anyone have bright ideas? I'm thinking about install redhat 6 on a spare drive, installing it then copying it over..
Sigh, all this just for the client libraries and headers.
What are you talking about? The nvidia drivers are very fast in linux, slower then windows by a couple fps, dri doesn't mean shit, its just an extra layer of stuff that would make the drivers SLOWER. nvidia has their own direct rendering system.
How is X cut and paste not real? It is different.. but once gotten used to it IS faster and more efficient. Unless of course your stuck with a (shitty) one button mouse.
;) Then, it was only a matter of letting Troy fix bugs;à
<smpHozer> yes it was
<smpHozer> and it was staring us in the face in the OF start-cpu1 code all the time;)
<BenH> Well, until I decided to drink some rhum, smoke a few pots, and decrypt the OF stuff;)
<slice`> heheh
<slice`> I believe you mean..
<slice`> "smoke a bowl"
<slice`> get with the lingo.. man:)
Patching the kernel to support third-party things like ReiserFS is not a big deal for me and I doubt it is for many other Linux users.. A Linux system is just a mix and match of many things from many places, why can't (shouldn't) the kernel be like this as well.. and if the arguement is its too hard for new users to figure out how to use it, they should NOT be using it. Linux is nowhere near the stage where a computer-illiterate can use it.
3DFX may support Linux, but it seems as though it is half-ass support. If you look at the recent benchmarks on linuxgames.com, the 3DFX cards have the largest gap between the Window and Linux drivers.. says you will only get like 75% of the performance you will get under Windows. Is this going to change in the future or will we continue to see half-ass support?
Of suing Napster Inc? You may stop them but.. so what? There are MANY napster clones along with drop in replacements for Mapster like OpenNap which is opensource software and cannot be stopped. Are you going to go after every joe blow running an opennap server? You will lose, its no different then running a webserver with a search engine. I don't get your logic.
i used stampede a few years ago on my old pentium166, was a cool distro. i now use debian and was wondering if any effort was going on to make a pentium(pro?) optimized distro.. *should* just be a matter of apt-get source somepackage.. edit the CFLAGS then dpkg-buildpackage... would be nice if someone did this and let people use it for their server for people's sources.list. i certainly don't have the bandwidth:)
btw what are the standard 'good' optimization flags?
hmm, i'm paying $40 a month i think, and i get 50kB/sec up and 300kB/sec down, only problem i have are the occasional short (10-20 minute) downtimes and online gaming (weird network pauses and packet loss)

I have machines that have stability problems with 2.2 and not with 2.4, I haven't had the vice-versa yet but I wouldn't rule it out.

Uh, run more applications? Maybe it would let you switch between them better then the joke gnome has but i doubt you could run more .. look at this.

Here you go, http://www.fortyoz.org/lmbench, does the G4 beat a P3 or Athlon? Nope.

Works fine in XF4, but quite slower then XF3. (3D mode anyway)
Then don't buy it, some people don't live in their parents basement's and need to pay rent and buy food. :)
Yeah, I second the statement that the DRI drvers ARE *slower* then the NON-DRI 3.3.6 ones. DRI is just more overhead.

Erm, yeah .. Kernel 2.0.x did suck but i'm quite sure 2.2.x or 2.3.x (2.4) could handle it.

The G4 does ok, not great.
Can someone explain why i'd want one again?

Your too busy to compile a new kernel yet you find time to read slashdot and post comments?
;)
I'd rather use windows then linux 2.0.x

see the hidden message? hint.. its backwards.
Code is not specs or documentation.
35fps is not really "playable" in serious online matches.
Get a laptop with a rage pro card (they really suck but you can play quake3 on them in crappy graphics settings with utah-glx).
#!/bin/bash
while true
do
mpg123 http://mp3-2.thesync.com:8000
done;
or just plug your line into a linux box and use it to ipmasq your other boxen. works like a charm.
