Notice the presence of 'Star Trek: First Contact' at no. 7 (!) above Casablanca in 1996. Now it is nowhere to be seen on the 250. Also 'Trainspotting' has fallen further down the list. Both these movies were in release around the time the poll was made. Who remembers 'Lone Star' now?
If you follow the imdb 250, a new movie shooting into the top ten happens all the time. It's nice to see this movie up there but don't assume too much from the rating just yet.
I remember 'Titanic' was in the top ten on imdb when it came out, but it has since fallen off the 250.
Waiting several months is a good idea. For example I've been following the imdb top 250 for years. Sometimes a movie. will shoot into the top ten on a wave of hype, but as more people see it on TV and video it falls down the list. Some films seem to stay up like 'American Beauty'.
Yes, Canada is a bit more lenient. For example, James Joyces Ulysees is available for download in Canada because it's in the public domain there. There are many different editions available in Canadian bookstores. This is not so in the U.S.
Also, there's no encryption export restrictions in Canada, which is why OpenBsd and ZeroKnowledge are based up there.
Hopefully if Canadians keep pressure on the government, free speech won't be as restrictive as it is in the U.S.
Clockwork Orange was never banned in the UK, Kubrick requested the film be withdrawn because his family had received death threats, (see this entry in the Kubrick faq).
You could say that the directors cut of "Eyes Wide Shut" was censored in the US, but it wasn't by the government, it was edited because there is a conspiracty among newspapers and theatre chains to keep nc-17 films out of theatres. Public outcry was near zero over this in the US. Same thing happened to the film "American Psycho".
You're absolutely right. I was surprised by the success of 'Tomagotchi', 'Pokemon' and 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon'. I wish people would remember that before they say 'X will never catch on outiside of Asia.' I guess train simulators won't be far behind.
Sure Blood Pledge has so-so graphics, but so did UO and Pokemon.
Great, I went to their page, the newest version is 0.9.7, and i read:
NOTE: giFT version 0.9.7 and ealier do NOT work.
Not only that, could they give some clue to what platforms it's supposed to compile on, or has compiled on, or what. I check the readme, this is great:
To try out the giFT daemon and the CGI client, simply install the CGI script in your cgi-bin directory on your web server.
Like who isn't running a web server. I'll stick with freenet.
If you just want a brief description and stats from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms video game, you could go here: Zhang Fei.

The Simpson Files was the episode. Additionally The Simpsons is the only time I've heard/seen Ganesh, Gore Vidal, Haig, used in a comedy program.

Unless you use tachyons, then your packets would arrive before you send them.

Japan's first transplant procedure in 1968 resulted with the doctor being charged with murder because it wasn't clear if the donor was brain dead.
Aparently the taboo has something to do with Japan's Shinto and Buddhist beliefs. Here's a link: Japan Legalized Organ Transplants from Brain-dead.
