The problem is data streaming and how that can cut down battery life. GTA has been used as an example of the type of game that will tax the PSP's battery the most because of its graphics and constant disc access.
I'm going to guess that this will either be a game much different to its PS2 brother or very load time heavy.
You should see the console sales in Japan on a week a Mario Party game comes out. They eat it up there.
And don't forget about Advance Wars, Golden Sun, and Animal Crossing. When you think about it, Nintendo has an amazing number of franchises. There are a lot of single games that might become franchises too.
The Metroid Prime Hunters demo that comes with the DS proves you wrong. The DS has more processing power and the same amount of RAM as the N64.
See GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.
My main concern is controls, and the DS has better control system than any other console for FPS games, because the touchpad works like a mouse. As I said, you could pull off an FPS without complete catastrophy on the PSP as long as that analog nub thing is a competant analog stick. Still the best you could hope for with the PSP are controls as good as modern home consoles. The DS is closer to a PC level of control.
My point wasn't that I expected Microsoft would port Halo to the DS. It's that they should be smart enough not to port it to the Gizmondo. They will only disappoint fans if they do.
PS: I like Mario Golf, etc, but this just seems like they are renting Mario out for money. Why not just make Mario Basketball if you want him to play?
This is how Nintendo is reaching out to third party developers. I think Nintendo is starting to understand that their game making prowess casts a shadow over other companies that want to make money on their system. So they are offering characters (NBA Street 3, DDR, and Soul Caliber) and entire franchises (Starfox to Namco, F-Zero to Sega) in order to share the spotlight and prove that they want others to profit making games on Nintendo consoles.
That's the way I see it anyway. Nintendo is in a precarious position. Because they are such a good game maker, they have to make some concessions to 3rd parties if they want others to develop for their systems.
The only handheld videogame system that could resonably support a FPS is the DS. At minimum you would need two motion controls, one for each hand and one of those would need to be analog.
I'll take that back. You may be able to squeeze an FPS on a PSP if you use the analog nub for look, the right side buttons for move, and the d-pad for weapon select. Not perfect, but workable.
The Gizmondo has no analog controls. If you were to use the D-pad for moving and the four right hand buttons for look, only the two triggers would be easily reachable. So you have shoot and action, jump, or weapon select.
A Gizmondo Halo would be to XBOX's Halo what the SNES Doom was to the PC Doom, not worth playing.
Yes, but if you use Yen to buy Wons then the value of the Yen decreases, which could metaphorically be seen as losing money without actually giving away a single note.
The concept is correct even if the actual circumstances aren't.

Xbox 2 for $400?

People keep saying this price increase is imminent, but there are a lot more new games released at $40 and under then there were before. Viewtiful Joe comes to mind, as does Katamari Damacy.
To play devil's advocate. The GameCube released at $199, and that didn't ensure it's victory. Though it would be interesting to see who would win if the XBOX 2 was $400, the PS3 was $300, and the Revolution was $200.
I'm not talking about a monopoly in the next generation. I'm talking no one supporting any other home console.
What was always curious to me was MS's decision to push the next generation. The whole point of selling the system at such a low price was to gain market share and recoup costs on the software. It's likely that MS will lose a lot of money on the XBOX 2 system sales. So they are shifting from the recouping costs phase early to go directly to the lose a lot of money phase again.
$400? Probably not

Microsoft has had no problem selling the XBOX so cheaply they can't make a profit, and there are only three things that will change this:
1) Microsoft gets a console monopoly. $400 would be the low end then, but won't happen this generation.
2) Microsoft loses an anti-trust suit to the Government, Sony, or Nintendo and is forced to raise prices closer to the cost of making the product.
3) Investors start demanding a profit on the XBOX.
I don't see any of these senarios at the XBOX 2's launch anyway. Maybe there are some I'm missing?
Oh I forgot. Profit doesn't matter in business anymore. We live in a magic fairy tale land where money grows on trees. The XBOX can be a success when it loses over 1 Billion dollars, and Sony's processor shortage is just a clever marketing ploy.
Gamecube didn't have as good of a holiday season as the PS2 and the XBOX. OMG OMG OMG, Nintendo is teh D3@D!
2003 was the christmas you couldn't find a GameCube on shelves. The GC is still the worldwide #2, and lets face it, the XBOX will not have another Halo 2 to sell systems anytime soon.
Plus Nintendo is not just a profitable console maker, it is the MOST profitable.
You'll see that this is the same news we heard yesterday. Only this site took the quote "probably be March" and made it into an announcement that it would be in March.
Hell with the Gran Turismo 4 debacle (delayed after the announcement that it went gold) I wouldn't be sure it would come out in March if they had announced it.
I went by the article linked in the post where it said the pilots were "temporarily distracted."
I said "nowhere in the article." I didn't bother researching further, because I read the fucking article, and I'm not going to get into a debate over which news source is more likely to exaggurate.
Still the "no damage" argument holds. Everyone is fine.
BTW -- though I didn't vote for W -- he did have a better plan for reforming SS than Kerry.
W's massive budget deficits are what caused the Social Security problem.
HA! Green Party! Thank Nader for 2000 for me.
Forget the DS and the PSP. The N-Gage couldn't compete against the GBA as a gaming platform.
So what you are saying is the word "nonsensical" applies to the people griping about the cell shading or a 2D PSP GTA, and not the games themselves.
Sorry, I read it wrong then. ^_^
It would be the PSP's version of Zelda cel shading (and would be just as nonsensical).
The Wind Waker's graphics are not universally seen as a mistake.
Last I checked the PSP doesn't have a rhythm game/music composer.

Nintendo is the undisputed king of first party games, I fully believe that. However, after you get through that, what do you have?
Under the circumstances, I'd have to say Resident Evil 4

So you are going to get upset with me, because I didn't say the Wons increase in value in the trade. I thought that was obvious.
If there is no way to shift value across currencies then a trade deficit would never be a problem.

They are estimating $750 Million profit this fiscal year.
That is a lot of profit.
