Excuse me? This is America. We don't need excercise, we need magic pills and more food that gives us greasy underwear.

As an addendum, I'd like to point out that using linux is extremely easy, especially with KDE or (somewhat) Gnome. It's the install that is tough for a newbie. When I first started using Debian, I was a little intimidated about picking out specific packages to install. I had no idea what was needed for the system I wanted. But nowadays we have Mandrake for the newbies, so even installing isn't a big problem (I tell people looking for linux distros that my mom could install Mandrake if she didn't have to do the partitioning step...).

  5. Yes on Making Linux Look Harder Than It Is · · Score: 4, Informative

I'd say yes. When I first started out, there was a lot of hand waving and "this is too complicated for you." Then I looked at it linuxdoc.org and said, "this is easy."

  6. But it still lacks a certain magnetism... on Global Warming Mostly Confirmed - On Mars · · Score: 1

This is all good fun, but the kind of atmosphere we need couldn't exist on Mars unless it had a stronger magnetic field, similar to the one we have here. Without a magentic field, comsic rays would make the 03 reaction rate increase dramatically (203 -> 302). This in turn would let cosmic and solar radiation "burn" the surface of the planet. While we could live in such an environment if we were constantly shielded, plant life would probably have to evolve a bit more before it could survive (but I'm no biologist).

  7. Watch your language on Binary Watch · · Score: 1

    Ever heard of a dictionary?

    1. Of, relating to, or having a sexual orientation to persons of the same sex.
    2. Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry.
    3. Bright or lively, especially in color: a gay, sunny room.
    4. Given to social pleasures.
    5. Dissolute; licentious.

Now, which definition of gay do you use? Hmm? It is neither 1) homosexual, 2)overly happy, 3)"bright or lively" (it's rather dark and crude), 4) a party watch, or 5) immoral.

I hate to be a PC nag here, but there is a reason that many gay youth commit suicide. While it seams trivial to use gay in a derogatory fashion, it creates non-trivial psychological damage to homosexual youths, especially in the social climate we have here in the states.

In the future, please watch your language. Would it be funny if I said, "Damn, what a nigger of a watch?"

It is pertinent because Maine is actually going through with providing students with laptops. Until this was announced, the plan to provide all middle-schoolers in Maine with laptops was vapor. This is also cool because it may put pressure on other states to do the same for their students.

Is this a step forward for mankind, or a step backward?

That is a good question. I guess the only way to figure it out is if we try it and see what happens. The scientific method demands experiments! There is no other way to know.

It does sound scary and rather gross, but it will definitely answer a lot of questions we have about nature and human life. Plus if it turns out that intelligence is inherited then we will have quite the future ahead of us. Can anybody say Uplift?
