Late response but I seldom check back on my posts. All on Linux. We used Hydrogen for drum patterns and Audacity for recording and mixing. The last track we posted was a goof on an earlier track we posted so it was kind of an inside joke. Glad you liked it. Thanks!
I feel bad responding to a first post troll but wrong is just wrong. I'm an amateur musician in the Olympic sense (I've never been paid for it in a meaningful way). It turns out you can do incredible things with a Linux desktop and just as much (if not more) with a Linux recording setup. Now, would I suggest using a Linux set up when trying to collaborate with other musicians? No. Sounds like a terrible plan. Can you record decent sounding multitrack stuff on your own with the right equipment? Absolutely.
I can't be the only person devastated by the news he doesn't have some kind of super power as a result of this. I mean, I guess not dying kind of counts. But it would've been much cooler if he had x-ray vision or telekinetic powers or something. Epilepsy is a lousy consolation prize.
My wife was a big fan of that show. My favorite scene however involved the crew under seige from some hacker and they needed to shore up the firewall - STAT! So one of the characters got to typing away, but it just wasn't enough. The hackers were gaining the upper hand! So another character jumped in and helped the first guy type faster by typing on the same keyboard. That seemed to do the trick and disaster was averted.
This is completely absurd. There are roughly 7 BILLION people on this planet that you insist on painting with the same brush in the same stroke. And that counts nothing towards the countless other humans that have gotten us to this point in our evolution. Yes, humanity at its extreme can be a toxic parasite on its environment and fellow man; however that totally disregards the ability of the capable to rise above the morass and drag the bottom up with it. Don't think that's how this story will end? You think we'll end up in oblivion, fighting tribal battles for the rest of our existence? You sit there, typing your rant on a device that wouldn't have been within the wildest reaches of imagination a few short generations ago, and you condemn the greatest of humanities abilties and achievements down to destruction.
Life is a process. Historically, the pressures were strictly survivalist. Now? To me and a great many like minded, survival means a good deal more than our next meal. So instead of seeking to drive humanity down and out, how about joining those of us trying to pull the least of us out of the muck?
The 9/11 attacks were posted here, as was just about every response to it. Sometimes, the stuff that matters tag needs to be taken a little more prominently.
This is about the behavior of the display server, not the user interface. So no, this has nothing to do with using a unified interface for different form factors.
You ain't kidding. Just dug one out of a long forgotten closet yesterday. Got a sticker on the back that says it was built Nov. 1993. Looks like it just came out of the box and works like a champ. I am one happy camper.
Do I even need to point out that this kind of thing hurts the perception of Open Source developers and by extension Open Source software? Then again, it's about time we have a term to replace the horribly racist "Indian Giver [wikipedia.org]" term. "MySQLGiver" maybe? "Open Source Giver"?
You're right. Such an egregious abuse could never happen with closed source software. *cough*Skype*cough*
I'm sure someone will politely correct me if I'm wrong, but it was my understanding that MATE is largely tied to GTK2 with a transition to GTK3 planned as a major milestone for the project. This could provide a gnome2-like experience without the major hurdles the MATE developers find themselves facing. As with everything involving desktop Linux at the moment, it'll be interesting to see if this gains traction/viability.
Hell, I was in Japan a few years ago and there were dogs there that seemed to understand Japanese! Me, can't speak a word of it. They got some smart dogs over there, let me tell you.
I seem to remember a comment from the debate where Obama mentioned he wanted to end oil company subsidies. I'd be very interested in seeing that map now that you mention it...
The late, great Bill Hicks said it best:
I'm so sick of arming the world and then sending troops over to destroy the fucking arms, you know what I mean? We keep arming these little countries, then we go and blow the shit out of them. We're like the bullies of the world, you know. We're like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet: "Pick it up."
"I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me."
"Pick up the gun."
"Mister, I don't want no trouble, huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, mister."
"Pick up the gun."
And look how often they release "stable" versions.
(BTW, I am a very big fan of Debian and its derivitives. Just thought I'd be a dick and point that out:-).)

It's not music that most people will like but it was recorded completely using a fedora studio spin. It can be done.

Another vote for IPFire. Excellent little distro.

Reverse Midas touch? I believe you mean the Ballmer squirt.
I'll let myself out.
bad mod. my bad.

Deep breath. Exhale.
You're welcome.

My brain read some of those answers in Hunter S. Thompson's voice.
FloridaMan truly is a super hero for the internet age. It's only a matter of time before he gets his own reality show.
I'd disagree. The genius is sometimes more in the question than the answer.
Just because something is hard work doesn't make it patentable.

I didn't have a chance to fact this stuff personally, but it looks like an impressive list.
Inflammable means flammable? What a country!

Boom, boom.
"You all saw him. He had a gun."
Try this. May help.
