That's correct -- the DivX 5.x codec was reverse engineered from the DivX 3.11 codec. But I've heard that you get better quality out of the 3.11 codec, but the content is therefore not legal.
So technically, yeah, DivXNetworks CAN be the "originators" of the supported codec (5.x) in the DVD players, but that's using Clinton-esque logic. The orginal codec was the 3.11 codec, which was a hack of the MS MPEG4 codec.
There's nothing wrong with text-based installers. In fact, the first half of the WinXP installer (if you're doing a clean install) is text-based (50-line). However, it's well written and intuitive.
Something need not be fully graphical to be intuitive. I talking like MS-DOS editor vs VI intuitive. They just need to spruce it up, and add some better default options.
Shit, even the FreeBSD 4.5 install is monochrome text! But it's intuitive. With options like "You can configure your partitions manually, but if you have no idea what the f**k you're doing, press X to autoconfigure," or something similar to that.
I took a tour of Thomson (or "RCA," if you prefer) a few months ago. They showed us this -- basically it's a port on the front of the TV which a special cable can connect the XBox directly to the TV with one connector.
Since Thomson/RCA (NOT Microsoft - they just provide the $$ and advertising) is actually the one that designed and manufactures the XBox, this is perfectly fine IMHO. A good selling point for their TVs for less-than-educated people that want to hook up an XBox.
Remote exploits and virus appear everyday and patches are generated quickly for the more quality OS's and virus updates are required daily for Micro$oft OS's. Infiltration.
My own experience with lawyers many years ago was getting out of 5 nice speeding tickets in one year. $1055 for combined legal costs to maintain my perfect driving record. I would learn from my misdeads others would spend money to work the legal system for their vices. I feel ashamed for my experience, but I learned this is a true way of life for others.
I'm positive that a box of Krispy Kremes could have got you off of some of those tickets.
Sure Linux let's you use the pen as a mouse, big deal. There is no inking handwriting recognition software (from what I hear, it took MS a long time to perfect it).
Definitely, I'd hit it. And the Acer page doesn't have a disclaimer that says "Hot girl in chair does not come with Tablet PC," so hey, y'know, you might be lucky.
Nah. As with most open-source projects, there is this sickly fear of ones-place-rollover in the version number. That's why you have so many programs with a version number like 0.9999.9.9.9.9.9.4
How can someone settle for sloppy seconds in fonts? I mean, Linux fonts are one step away from being garbled gibberish!! You shouldn't HAVE to settle for anything less.
Meanwhile, the Mac has had nice looking fonts (hey guess what, the Chicago and Geneva fonts are still around!) since 1984.
Looks like Linux is 18 years behind the mainstream. Not like that surprises me or anything.
We're talking about fucking EXCHANGE SERVER here. AFAIK, this entire thread about "the MS tax" is offtopic, but michael^H^H^H^H^H^H^H the article submitter is a flaming asshole for even mentioning it.
Face it, Exchange is Exchange and nothing will ever be Exchange. This open source 'Exchange server replacement' will be like 90% of Linux offerings: sloppy seconds.
But have you tried to open any doc files from someone that has "upgraded" to Office 2000? Almost impossible unless that person has the sense-of-mind to save it in the old 97 Office format..........
You are 1000% incorrect. Office 97 is compatible with Office 2000 is compatible with office XP (2002).
You're thinking of OFFICE 95, which is long forgotten and no one has used since 1996.
Hmm, let's see, people on rollerblades in skintight suits vs. CowboyNeal-esque folks waddling down the street? I don't think so. Now, if there was snow on the ground, that would be a different story.
I caught his interview on "The Screen Savers" on tech TV last night, and was very disappointed to see he was so "tired" he couldn't hold a coherent dialogue.
You know RMS was doing quaaludes backstage before the show... he's old-skool 70s-style like that.
Wow, foot in my mouth. But... I could have sworn!
I knew RCA and MS were "like this" [makes appropriate finger motion] but looks like I was wrong. Hmmph.

Actually, the codec was originally developed internally by Microsoft, IIRC, then hacked to be used by any encoder [hence the ;-) in DivX ;-)3.11].

Wow, you are so full of shit!
I smell Linux hippy.

Isn't that an oxymoron?
Always make sure you're wearing one of those wrist-strap thingies.

No way! Some OTHER guy with the name "The Turd Report" is posting messages with the username "The Turd Report?!?"
Thanks for clearing that up!

And herring.

I think it's their whole slipshot, aging, still early 90s era Athena computing system that keeps you from doing any real productive work.
Kerberos explanation up in he'a!
Here
The red stripe points towards the power supply connector, or marked pin 1 on the mobo. That's SOOO difficult. 8-)

Resident asshat.
Dude, chill, I was just adding a little spice to the conversation! =)
