So explain how using a Mac will stop people from downloading a file from Kaza or what not and double clicking on it. If enough dumb users are using a Mac some one will just release MyDoom.Mac as an app called OfficeXp-Macintosh-Crack.app
You, the downloader, are free to seed any other files you want. If you want to seed an unpopular file, go ahead. Just dont be surprised when one or two downloaders kill your bandwidth.

The odds of finding anything gothic, punk, or gansta at Prada is slim to not. If you are in the store, that's where you are shopping. Thus information about what you got there last time is relevent.
I for one like being target based on what I buy. I get a lot of import DVDs from Suncoast. Thus they send me a catalog of movies that are like the ones they know I buy. I fail to understand why thats a bad thing.
Part of the problem is that java.com will download the wrong JVM in some cases. Forget about using it with Windows 98 for instance. We've had no end of problems with our application since everything has had to switch to Suns JVM.
The Microsoft JVM is/was very good. Microsoft didn't pull support for it, Sun sued them to stop development and distribution. Sun then sued Microsoft to force them to bundle the Sun JVM. Then Sun sued to stop Microsoft from using ANY JVM. Thus ends Java on the desktop. Pity too, I like Java quite a bit.
The problem is that most companies who claim to NEED MS Office really need the stuff that comes with it such as OWC and ODBC. Most are running some custom built database or web app system. Many ISO certification platforms use OWC because most peoples docs are in Word/Excel format. So you cant get rid of office until you stop people from using office, which they wont do as long as everyone is using office.
" They lost because they decided to focus their resources on fighting that same 400lb gorilla I just mentioned."
Yes. They should have spent their time writing software. They chose to litigate rather then develop their product and as such I have no sympathy for them at all. Especially given the amount of money the got for "failing". I hope every day that I get to fail like they did.
Well for one thing, people are actualy working on Opera and have been since the start. Netscape died becuase the devlopers gave up on it long before the soruce was released. This is why Opera is a good product and Netscape started to suck long before they started going out of business.
When I buy a PDA I chose it for functionality, not freedom (whatever) or sustainability. Why should I care if I can get free updates to a PDA in five years when it probably still wont be able to do what my Microsoft or Palm PDA can do today? I?ve looked at the Linux PDAs and I just don?t see the point. They have all the complexity and failings of UNIX with no software and limited compatibility.
"I have two Windows XP boxes which I use near continuously, and neither have ever had any sort of virus, trojan, worm, etc. One of those is completely without a firewall."
Correction. They have no virus, trojan, worm, etc that you know of. And of course you would have no way of knowing because you dont run a firewall or antivirus. For all you know your sending out tons of email and infecting other systems. Do us all a favor, turn on the freakin firewall. It came free with the OS if your too cheap to buy a hardware solution.
Are you kidding? I'd have t-shirts made proclaiming that I designed smart urinals for a living. You have a unique job that many people would get a kick out of.
It should also be notted that getting blank looks at SCA meetings is normal. Somthing about people who get hit in the head with sticks for fun.
"I'll betcha a real $20 that I could tell it from a real one in 5 seconds..."
If your looking for the fake one I bet you could. However most people dont do check. If it looks like a real bill and feels like a real bill thats as far as they get. I'm not saying I could fool a bank, but I bet I could fool the guy down at the 7-11.
I tried to make a copy of a 20$ bill on a cheap HP Officejet G95. It came out perfect, if I where to spend a bit of time roughing it up the result would have been very hard to tell from a real bill. Instead it went into the cross shredder. The point is that most counterfeit bills are not being made in large quantities but by people making one or two fake bills each.

I dont know, I thank many people here would enjoy having a girl who grocks sendmail asking about the size of their penis. Perhaps if we get rid of all the male spammers geeks wont mind getting spam as much.
1. Setup email-escrow acount.
2. Sign up for as many news letters, free offers, etc that you can find.
3. Claim that none of the resulting email was requested.
4. Buy a house with the money you just got.
"Good point. I recommend not going to college so you don't have to pay for food and rent."
You see, if I'm not at school I can get a thing called a "JOB". A Job pays money. Money can be used to purchase goods and services such as rent and food.
However I also want a house and food.
Given the cost of houses where I work (SF/BayArea) I'm going to need a lot more money then I have now to get one.
I had to stay in the San Francisco, Bay Area lacked the resources to relocate. Also, this is still where the jobs are. I sent out resumes by email and snail mail (I picked up a bulk envelope printer cheap) based on openings on several web boards (FlipDog, Monster, the Marin County Job Board, Craigs List, Dice, etc...) as well as what was listed in the majority of the Bay Area news papers. I ended up having to commute a good 45 min to an hour each way, but its worth it. The position I ended up with is a combination of Network/Systems administration and application development (using Lotus Domino, blech!) for a small (five people) dot-com that survived the bust (they have an actual PRODUCT with CLIENTS! What a concept). If your really interested, its vintara.com, an ISO9000/6SIGMA certification system.
This is why I skipped college (well I also couldn't afford it). I found that work experiance is better then the degree. Granted if the choice is between two people with the same experiance and one of them has a degree, then the college boy gets the job. I'm thinking of going to night school and getting a BA in buisness managment but I just dont see much value in a CompSci degree anymore.

$150,000 is not enough for four years at my local comunity college. After you factor in little things like rent and food its not even close.
