I will start telling you i really would hate 802.11b networks to dissaper, but Sirius got his point, he is using that frequency for long, paid, build and mantain it using it, if there is one network administrator reading this he will understand for sure what a pain would be to change the frequency
Anyway, its FCC duty to establish standards for communication, i read other posts and looks like a lot of ppl think standards should stop to let 802.11b continue (clearly because they want to explode their geeky potential) but thanks to standard we have so many things: Just think about the serialbars on every product u got from the supermarket, the workers just pass the product on the laser beams and "BING", everything appers on the items list screen even with the disscounts... all companys follow some rules when puting a serialbar code on their products and thanks to this and the standards we can finish our visit to the supermarket in 5 mins. Now just think a lot of geeks started to put serialbars on every product they found... the database where the product catalog are will become a mess and you would need to wait 10 minutes while the worker looks for every product the price.
------ If you have a problem with my english talk with my teacher and stop bugging me!
I had problems with my new Pentium 4 compatible MotherBoard from BioStar, very dissapointing to see harsware vendors acting like this.
The problem was that i couldnt detect my SoundCard and CaptureCard with RedHat as always... but i felt more frustated when found that Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Me didnt work either, i tested XP and worked just fine. My frustation dont comes because i cant use microsoft 9x stuff, but is because vendors think they can get you to buy the new Windows just to be Certified .
So you are going to block the half of the world, why dont shout down your whole mail server and use the telephone and fax?, as long as i see you dont care about the world community.
Email is mean to be a global communication solution, if you want to communicate with your employes and/or clients then just open a private network over a WAN, you can even use live communication applications.
Intersting, i agree with you in many things, and as long as i can see the net start the fall when junky corporations started to look at it as a money earning tool, they mess with it, leave it all fucked, and now after the net burst all their crap is still here.
The point is that when they tryed to convert a free tool to an earning tool all this happened... This is when i fear for Linux future now that biggy ones are looking.
Im glad!, i cant wait anynmore, to tell you the truth i havent seen the 3 beta 1 so now is when... Anyway, KDE is great, i was a gnome user but after Ezrael gnome feels a little too slow, not like to mather but a speed frak can see it clearly... Downloading...
This is everywhere... or maybe just around my and thats why i dont notice the whole world already knows ASM, and no, i wont tell you in assembly language cause im still a student of ASM, hey!, but im trying hard and all by myself, if you plan to learn ASM by yourself i recommend you a book called "The Art of Assembly programming", or something like that, its freely distribuited online as an e-book and you can find it by searching on Google... I can give you the exact name and link as soon as i get to my studio... next moday.
Do you think this machine could use 8 bit words?... i dont thinks so but dont really know, its more like to use a not standard ASCII table for alpha to get ride of the many useless characters. (and as long as i know ASCII dates to IBM's glory)
All is true, thats why i think is important to learn ASM and how does the Turning Machine worked, ASM is a nice language, gives you a good perspective of how does computer hardware works inside the system. Its sad to see many young programmers telling its boring, useless, superpassed and old enough to be ignored.
Want examples?, search for them on microsoft.com, i had problems with the well know DLL (API) problem while programming for Windows, now just thinking about programming Windows like on Linux gives my a pain in the neck... This problem is well know inside Microsoft as "Dll hell", wich is said that has been fixed on XP with the new Dll_cache system directory, yeah faggot, that new dir in your windows, so i thinked about it before posting and maybe you should follow your own tips.
It seems to me that now days the Net is so big and there is so many persons hanging around that now is more like a country, for some people the Net Heart is the multimedia sharing community, for others the porn post sites, for others the chatrooms, others Quake or Counter Strike, AI, development, Open Source, jokes and many other topics... i know persons who spend 90% of their online time playing Quake, more or like 4-5 hours a day, same goes for mp3 downloaders and developers.
But even Microsoft application products have to be able to run on older OS's. OfficeXP will run on Windows 98
But many APIs Windows98 API's are update in the installation proccess... so what you said dont apply very well, the fact is that OfficeXP installations will be made to upgrade what is needed on older MS OS's, but this doenst apply for Lindows.
I agree with the rest of the guys who replyed, this is not evil, just a good strategy.
They are not puting a Goolge search box in the windows taskbar with default installation like some tool i know. *Cough* Internet Explorer *Cough*
A nice way to get ideas for free... maybe the idea of the winner will be used on the future.... but i still would like the money better than the idea. =D
...convert Linux to a standard compatible desktop OS for evryone?, mmm... geeks will need a new hideout to hang and talk about bytes in hex language. Seriously, the singularity of Linux plus the community was great.
Ok, i never mentionated South Africa, i said 3rd world countries, and i cant speak about South Africa myself since i have never been there, but i have been on Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, and many other 3rd world countries, now about my funny if not ugly english its becaus im from a 3rd world country, so i know what im talking about like you.
I dont know if South Africa can write better english than me, i dont think the percent statics will tell me that, but leaving behind your flamebait or angry, whatever you call it, you cant talk about a country like if it was a person, no matter your friends are for there and could kick my ass on everything about linux the percent could tell me something different. Now i will tell you again i never had been there but from all the 3rd world countries i know everything i said was a fact.
Sorry if i ofended you in some way, i cant speak for South Africa myself since i have never been there, but i have been on Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, and many other 3rd world countries, im from a 3rd world country myself, so i have experience enough about what im talking about.
I know persons who works on the systems deparment and cant compile a linux kernel, in fact they almost run when someone say Linux, once one of them told me to stay away from that *crazy* stuff.
Everybody talks like if they knew since years that 3rd world countries use Open source... well, i have beent on a lot of this countries for long and will tell you something:
They DONT use open source stuff, its usually more difficult than Microsoft software and there is not enough education there to, lets say, recompile the kernel. They are in a piracy hipe, you can find full streets of pirated software stores and you can find from screensavers to SQL 2000.
They use Windows and more Windows, all pirated, even small to medium corporations use pirates Microsoft stuff, goverment has so many things to worry that looking for pirated software isnt even in the list.
Yeah, by downloading MP3 you dont own you are really practicing piracy in the old fashioned way.
The only problem here is the interests conflict, wich is bigest one i know so far, i only see 2 emergency exits:
One would be to ban all the tech corporations from doing any kind of software/hardware that could violate on any way copyrights.
And the other could be to let things go, so the content corporations would change and become something we have never seen... some kind of linux community (Open based with donations system) but with music and movies.
Now, if we think it carefully the first choice is the classic american way, and the second one is a bit more communist, so i cant see the second one going to happen... I think in the future some DMCA kind laws will keep all this mess controlated... something i dont really like (hey!, i got the DECSS shirt!), but... it is for the best?.
I also think Opera is better for daily use than Mozilla, is blazing fast, is light, has great multiple windows support (in 6.0 you can even categorize your open windows, for example i have a in-task window with all the slashdot windows and another in-task window with MSNBC ones), and user/author mode (works great for old or half blind users).
Good point, they should focus on geting the bugs fixed to realase the 1.0, not add more features while there are still very visible bugs... i like it anyway, is the best one while hanging on source forge, but they should reconsider the development proccess.
i use Mozilla when work on SourceForge, and right now (for daily use) im using Opera, the fact is as long as i saw on the link looks like many problems where solved.
First of all the fast switch of themes is fixed again, so you dont need to reboot (zzz) mozilla everytime you feel like to dress it different;)
But one of the things i saw dont have others browsers is all the favicon stuff, man!, thats a simple small fast and real nice update, if anyone wants to use a custo ico just add a line to the html source, if not the browser wont search it, any other sysadmin like me who is tired of the stupid favicon.ico always on the top of your 404 file log?. I dont want that damn icon!
I will start telling you i really would hate 802.11b networks to dissaper, but Sirius got his point, he is using that frequency for long, paid, build and mantain it using it, if there is one network administrator reading this he will understand for sure what a pain would be to change the frequency

This is a Troll, not links, no real info, just a buch of words all joined that looks like a good post.
Anyway, you can always buy a good video capture card for your PC and save a DVD video directly to DivX on your PC, so no real protection at all.
mmmm... seems like cold blood has a link with computers... im starting to understand Bill Gates success... mmmmm...
