I've got nothing against free speech. What about the rights of cmdrtaco? What about the rights of the family of this poor lad? What are they going to think if someone tells them that there's a tribute to their son/brother/whatever, they look at it and it's covered with this sort of crap.

THIS ISN'T FREE SPEECH, IT'S VANDALISM.

So where do you stand on the freedom to shout "fire" in a crowded theatre? Are you in favor of that sort of free speech? Or what about the freedom to ring 911/999 hundreds of times a day with prank calls? Or what about the freedom of me to call you a pedophile and post your name and address on the web, in your local newspaper.

So yes, I am in favor of free speech as long as it doesn't go too far. I'm assuming your from USA and if you check your enshrined freedoms then you might find that the freedom that you love is exactly what you called me a loser for.

But I forgot, the current Slashdot mentality is to insult rather than discuss or think about a subject, it's a lot easier isn't it?

Why do you feel the need to resort to personal insults? Is it easier than having a debate/discussion. I wasn't taking pot-shots at you, I was trying to point your arguments back at you to possibly make you think about what you were saying.

Or just delete these posts. You know you can do it. Hopefully this is the final straw, these idiots don't deserve the satisfaction of seeing their 'work' displayed in public. Perhaps the next slashdot poll?

Yes that's it, dismiss out of hand anything that doesn't fit your world view. I personally find nothing more fun that watching the spoon-fed sheep that appear to inhabit this planet believe everything their Good Old USofA (God Bless it) goverment tell them. Why should they lie to me? Surely they've never lied about anything in the past? What, I should use my own brain, make informed judgements for myself?

Yes, I hadn't thought of it in that way. I certainly first heard of kuro5hin through slashdot, so it's more than likely that the prats did too. What doe's this mean though? Slashdot seems to be causing a trail of destruction everywhere it goes. It's like that open-source website yesterday. The slashdot hordes soon got rid of that. Perhaps it's time to move on...

I hate to say it on a site like this, but you're spot on suggesting the kuro5hin system. It's a lot more 'democratic' then the slashdot way, and it doesn't lead to millions of 'does this belong on slashdot' posts.

Also, yes, delete the crap. What purpose is there for it. I'm sure that if it got deleted they'd soon stop.

Just look at the comments here so far. Can you blame them? I'm surprised that slashdot don't do the same. Everyone knows that the signal/noise ratio here is very low and you have to wonder why cmdrtaco et. al. don't just get rid of the discussion area.

I'm trying to work it out but I think gas/petrol does cost about 6 bucks a gallon over here in England and the levels of traffic have just been going up and up. If someone needs to make a journey and there is no viable alternative to the car, then they'll use their car, simple as that, regardless of price.

(Petrols about 90p per litre over here, so that's roughly 5 litres in a gallon, so £4.50 per gallon, converted to $ is roughly $7 per gallon)
