Yup, thats why I used MS code as an example.
Now if News Corp. actually BUILT a processor with those patented processes and designs.....
That'd show those pirate-loving Intel execs!
I was thinking about the camcorder watermarks as well. They must want computers to always REJECT files with those watermarks, because otherwise what stops you from just recording a movie from the television using the camcorder, and sending that to people. The movie has a valid watermark, but not the restrictive one on the original movie.
Am I wrong, or are the MPAA/RIAA REALLY so stupid that they havn't realized that everything they want is simply infeasible.
But Mr. Chernin of the News Corporation suggested that matters might be different if the tables were turned. "Let's say I decide to broadcast on my network the code for how to make Intel chips or Microsoft software," he said. "I think they'd find a way to stop it."
I don't think so. Intel and Microsoft wouldn't do anything if News Corp. told people how to make a microprocessor or a word processor. Now if they somehow got ahold of MS code and boadcast it, well that would be illegal now. What is the difference. The fact that computers can be used illegally does not mean those companies are facilitating it, whereas CNN broadcasting MS code IS facilitating illegal activity.
Granted alot of things are wrong with it but NTFS,in general, works.
I'm just wondering what you think is wrong with NTFS. IMO it is one of the few things that MS has done right. I'd much rather be able to use NTFS under Linux as the main filesystem than ext3.
The point is that if you are already being taxed, to fund the corporations because of pirating, then shouldn't that give you the right to pirate the music (if it can really be called pirating anymore) You've paid for it when you bought the media, regardless of whether you intended to pirate any music in the first place.
News like this always make me wonder when there's finally going to be a new revolution in "the land of the free" which would make it that once again.
Hmph...never gonna happen. Most of us are very appathetic politically, and the only way that any real reform could happen is through a referendum where the american people vote the laws in themselves.
I wondered when they would get around to going after Apple. *sigh* granted in order to RIP the music you sort of need to have bought the CD, but of course fair use rights can just be damned.
Ok if you had read through the regulation a little more you would realize that the reciepts are not necessarily signed. Signature confirmation is an additional service that you can have by request.
Ok this has been mentioned before but I'll say it again. Bnetd are NOT the ones who enabled WC3, it is a HACK of their program that allows this. So how exactly does the DMCA apply?
I also like KDE, but when I first installed it the memory usage was horrendous. I have 512Megs of memory and when KDE would load I would be left with about 50 Megs! (This is with almost everything else shut down, just X/KDE running) Gnome leaves me with alot more Memory, which is good because I hate having to leave X to compile something I just downloaded. Under KDE it will take about 3x as long to compile as under Gnome!
