  1. Robot Arms Ahoy on International Space Station: Canada to the Rescue? · · Score: 1

Canada has had one and exactly one valuable contribution to space travel and exploration, but it has been a fairly large one, this being the enormous robotic arms that the shuttle uses to manipulate large peces of debris and equipment in space. These things truly are masterpieces of modern engineering, and no other country manufactures them reliably. Canada's robot arms are also of a superior quality- enough for the US space program to use at least. Canada is apparently good for something after all (besides being entertaining to taunt on a regular basis).

  2. Au contraire... on Sony vs Modchips · · Score: 1

I believe that a company which goes out of their way to hinder the distribution of accessories such as mod chips is not too bright in their approach to business. For example, when Apple computer basically destroyed Power Computing (only maker of Apple clones to date), they suffered a great loss financially and their user base was quite unhappy. Even though PC was using the Apple technology and platform for their hardware design, Apple still made money in that the user had to go through Apple for software and most peripherals. Sony makes millions of dollars every day off of their games, through licensing and through sales above overhead. They are ignorant to think that mod chips would be anything but helpful in terms of generating more revenue. People who own Playstation 2 are not going to stop buying their games; if anything, they'll buy more. Additionally, the percentage of users who go so far as to acquire a chip will always be a mere fraction of the total user base.

  3. Not at all. on An Interview with JRR Tolkien and Other Tomfoolery · · Score: 2, Informative

Peter Jackson does NOT reckon Tolkien would like the movie adaptations of his works. In an interview he gave to the BBC, Jackson said that he thought that Tolkien would be 'upset with the liberties he'd taken with the script' but that Tolkien 'would probably be glad Jackson had interpreted the major themes correctly.' A two-year old could interpret the major themes correctly. I personally think that Tolkien would come after Jackson with a spoon and a white-hot hazelnut for cutting out important characters and inserting clichéd catchphrases into the greatest fantasy epic ever written.

  5. I remember this. on Lunar Lasers · · Score: 1

This is the part in the movie where someone grabs the shoulders of the lead scientist and says, "Listen man! You don't understand what these lasers will DO!" This is usually followed by the scientist ignoring the warnings and the Earth plunging into a 500-year nuclear winter. Time to ready the bunker.

  6. Pick your friend's nose. on SNES Portable · · Score: 1

I don't understand why this guy had to pick the Super Nintendo to miniaturize. The games for that platform weren't even that engaging. How about creating something truly entertaining and beneficial, like miniaturizing an Apple II GS. Now a portable Bard's Tale would be a thing to have.
