OK economics 101 for idiot boy. The current definition of a monopoly as used to describe the market inequality of a single supplier was set by Adam Smith who wrote the 'Wealth of Nations'.
The free market as posited by Smith and revered by you capitalists has NEVER existed - it has eight pre-conditions at least one of which would require the banning of all advertising and branding.
Barriers to entering the market are numerous, and usually are caused by current businesses within that sector rather than by governments.
The ideal pictured by A. Smith may be a beautiful thing but it just don't exist.
carries quite a good story on this and brings up several valid points;
the survey was paid for by Microsoft, the five year ownership DIDN'T include the cost of upgrading the hardware, that Microsoft recommend / require upgrade cycles that downtime wasn't taken into account.
Please remember that unlike in Western Europe, you DO NOT have direct electoral representation at the Presidential level. Your President is elected by people, elected by the voters. This distorts and exacerbates the two party squeeze. In Europe we have numerous third parties and coalitions, and if the same can be said of Canada I would suspect that they don't have your f*cked up electoral college either.
How about the right to carry out my private business without it being logged somewhere? The right to publish without someone, two years down the line sueing me under a retrospective law in a different country (a la skylarov)? Better still, how about exercising my right to free speech? Rights not utilised tend to become marginalised.
Or maybe you feel that the curtailing of the rights of all is OK in order to control the minority who are abusers of those rights.
Oh and whilst we're at it how about being presumed innocent until proven guilty?
"I disagree with what you say but I will defend unto the death your right to say it." Voltaire (from memory so don't be word picky unless I've changed the meaning of the quote - which I haven't).
Yeah, I know this is a bit of a knee jerk reaction but with everything becoming more and more controlled under the excuse of security post 11/9 (I'm a Brit) I generally feel that we have to watch for every incursion on our liberties.
For all those/.er's who believe that civil disobedience doesn't work - check out what happened to the Poll Tax in the UK during the 1980's. Hundreds of thousands of people refused to pay, they all insisted on their day in court, it cost millions, there were at least two major riots, all the money hasn't been collected, even now, oh yes and we got rid of a Prime Minister even more disliked than GWB. I was a press officer for my local anti-poll tax campaign and we were harassed, arrested, intimidated but really, really pissed off and eventually successful. So go for it my US comrades...
I have to both agree and disagree.
Until Win2k scripting was an 'additional feature' e.g. free download, and was often overlooked.
Having said which anytime I learn something on *nix I have always learnt as much about using Windows - especially scripting.

Hmmm.
Ok boys,

Just to point out - almost 100% of British Civil Service, Cabinet, Judiciary, etc, come from Oxbridge (Oxford and Cambridge combined).
Well,
