Snipped from the constitution act of 1982:
2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
(
a) freedom of conscience and religion
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression,
including freedom of the press and other means of communication.
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.
it goes on. A notworty clause is it's anti-discrimination section:
15. (1) Every individual is equal before the and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age, or mental or physical disability.
Meet Dudley Hiibel. He's a 59 year old cowboy who owns a small ranch outside of Winnemucca, Nevada. He lives a simple life, but he's his own man. You probably never would have heard of Dudley Hiibel if it weren't for his belief in the U.S. Constitution.
One balmy May evening back in 2000, Dudley was standing around minding his own business when all of a sudden, a policeman pulled-up and demanded that Dudley produce his ID. Dudley, having done nothing wrong, declined. He was arrested and charged with "failure to cooperate" for refusing to show ID on demand. And it's all on video.
On the 22nd of March 2004, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether Dudley and the rest of us live in a free society, or in a country where we must show "the papers" whenever a cop demands them
Welcome to Humboldt County. Papers, Please.
No? You're Under Arrest.
I am not fond of cell phones. I don't like being interupted whenever someone wants to ask me something silly. I won't have a cell phone unless it comes with a signal blocking case.
What bothers me even more is the fact that even if you don't have a cell phone, everyone else does. Barely a week goes by when some damn fool's phone goes off in one of my classes.
I know that some people need cell phones (on call doctors, people with family in the hospital, Etc), but the only time in my life when I ever wanted a cell phone was when my weel fell off on the highway, and it was 14 degrees out, but if I had one, I just know I would be yapping away at it, and would have lost more than just a wheel.

For me, using laptops in class is very diffocult. I have bad handwrighting, and the advantage that I had it diagnosed at a young ange as a written language disability, so I have to use a laptop for just about everything. My major issues were cost and durablility. I didn't want to spend a quarter of my collage tuition cost on a laptop that I would break after the first week. My solution was an Itronix XC-6250, $200 on ebay at the time of purchase, nothing fancy, just fast enugh to run Windows 95 and OpenOffice (Or, since I am a masochistic geek, Vi and LaTex). It only had an hour of battery life, but I went to a school with tiny classrooms, and I could almost allways sit along a wall and grab power from that, there might be problems with that. I agree that WiFi access can be important, but it is a destraction. I sat behind a guy with wireless in my CS107 and he did nothing but read slashdot all through class.
My simple dime/2.5
