Back before the Internet, email virus dispatching, viruses would travel undetected, from PC to PC via shareware floppies.
We've got WAY more unexperienced users out there, so in theory we should have a big virus problem.
In the last few years, most virii have been clones of Word Macros and Outlook worms. We don't have as many 'real' virii walking the streets, that can do real damage like nuking hard drives and causing subtle changes in files.
When I worked at Best Buy a few years back, I remember people losing their MP3's to a few virii, but thats really it. Nothing like the Cookie and Stoned! trips of the 80's and 90's.
Before I could do anything, I had to feed the machine four "system restore" CDs, which appeared to install a complete disk image onto the hard disk. That took about 45 minutes, after which I was free to start Mac OS X. As I knew I would shortly trash and repartition the hard disk, the wait was moderately frustrating.
Apple doesn't preload their software? Why was this guy loading the system restore, fresh out of the box?
Really, Windows 2000 is oh-so-much faster. Even XP is faster!
They've made OSX faster with each revision, but the interface is still nowhere near what you'd expect. It does have *NIX behind it though, that might explain it
Depends on where you live. Being in Michigan, I run 3-4 PC's 24/7, 17 and 19 inch monitors, along with TV, stereo, lights, etc...$25 a month or so is my electricity bill
For the XP4, Trident claims 80% of the performance of a GeForce4 Ti 4600. The kicker for the company is 3W max and 5W static power consumption at this level.
Trident and PERFORMANCE in the same sentence?
Bwaahaha!!
Seriously, these people haven't created a product that doesn't suck for YEARS.

Maybe if you got XENIX running on a old Compaq 386/16...
Advertise the hell out of them with annoying pop-up ads!
Whoops, that idea's already taken!
It's not the pirating...it's the music!
We don't have the bands of the 90's anymore....
We've got a couple big sellers, one hit wonders, trendy bands....nothing 'classic' lately
Go ahead, flamebait, redundant, offtopic
Lets say you buy a 50 pack of CD's....
I might burn 5 music CD's from that.
Quark is a ugly, horrid, slow, piece of junk software.
But what else is there?
Frobozz Pentathon VII Computer - $1799
US Robotics 56K Modem - $79

Getting f1rst p0St - Priceless
Yeah, I remember when I used to get this at home a few years back.
I subscribed for 7 fucking years, and 2 months into my last subscription, what do I get?
A card saying they aren't printing Byte anymore, and they gave me a couple issues of some half ass "home-office computer" magazine.
CMP won't ever see any of my money again.

You can use G4 Briq's for making a cluster.
Although, for the price of one new LOADED G4 Mac, you can get a whole 8 way intel box, or a couple real nice P4's....
How is this interesting?
This is a MOVIE, not an OS!
new rule - you must READ the article before you moderate!
A friends G3 with OS 9, a friends G4 with OS9/OSX, My old 604 with OS8....
Maybe its the multitasking, or lack thereof?
Painfully slow on a G3, usable on a G4.

When I was a Best Buy drone, the people from the surrounding rural areas would consistently bring in cases that had been sprayed in camo schemes.
I can download the latest Slackware ISO!
Insightful?
Maybe you should send this marketing tactic over to AMD...they've only been using it since 1990!!!
Thousands for a BIKE?
To ride around the CITY?
I could see if you were a hard core mountain biker...
In bed together?!?!
Thieves in my area steal the cars with OnStar right off the light...sure, they catch them but usually it's a little too late.
