I did something like this a couple years ago. I "married" an obviously fake girl I created on Facebook. My ads internet wide quickly switched from "singles" ads to mortgages and retirement ads (with a smattering of child education savings thrown in). A couple months later I "divorced". That brought on the lawyer ads, and a fresh onslaught of singles.
I've been Facebook free for a while now, but the screen captures I grabbed and posted while doing this provided a lot of amusement for my friends.
No other MMO has fights or losses like this. Makes it far more worthwhile when you stand to lose something (even a virtual something), as opposed to just reappearing at a spawn location otherwise unaffected by your loss. It's also nice to have a lot of the standard idiots chased from the game by the learning curve, and the need to actually socialize.
Yea, I left WoW for Eve and never looked back. I haven't run a mission in over a year, and get to play however I want to. My gear never goes out of date, and is almost entirely player made. It's a better game in many respects, it just doesn't hold your hand like WoW.
I no longer even want to think about changing my email address. I've been on Gmail now ever since I was able to beg an invite, and it would suck to try to update that many contacts.
This post did get me remembering when I used an @bigfoot.com redirector for a long time until they made some changes to the service that I didn't like.
While I don't know if this is the same in the States, asking an interview question involving age in the manner you suggest would be firm grounds for a discrimination suit in Canada. I'm not saying that such things aren't asked, but it's not uncommon for these Human Rights cases to proceed under our Charter.
This is the next step in disguising the true age of Chinese gymnasts. My prediction: In London, the entire women's team will sport fu manchu mustaches.
Yep, a lot of idiots on that highway. I did Squamish to Whistler as a daily commute this winter. The thing is its not that bad a highway, it's the drivers on it that are the problem. They could solve most of the winter problems if they just had a vehicle check at Horseshoe Bay where they prevented vehicles without true snow tires (not "all season", but REAL snow tires) from carrying on.
To rant further, city drivers typically don't know how to pass safely in the mountains. The most common mistake I see is the tailgate-hoping-to-pass-then-pull-out-in-a-short-passing-area-and-punch-the-gas move. A driver who knows what he/she is doing gives a couple car lengths so that they can see the passing area coming up, and accelerates while still following in the lane. That way when you pull out you are already traveling faster than the vehicle you are wanting to pass, and you don't have to try to accelerate (with your crappy all season tires) after driving through snow into the oncoming/passing lane.
OK, so that bit of ranting is done. The real thing is that people should just chill out. Know how long the drive takes, and just drive at the speed of the traffic.
And for the record, while the Sea To Sky is a beautiful drive, Duffy Lake road is IMHO much more interesting. Part of that may be due to the fact that you hardly see a soul on it most times.

The date on this article is 04 December 2007 05:22 PM, are we sure the concerns raised here weren't dealt with already?...not that I'm a huge Facebook fan, but if I were to leave Facebook I would have to give up administration of the United Cabin Dwellers Federation. Although I hear leaving can be difficult...
My Job's have been all over the map, but I've done exactly what the original poster was asking about.
I used to be a systems engineer, working primarily as a contractor. Made good money, liked it when I started. But the job became a grind. When a big contract ended, I just couldn't motivate myself to find more work (retrospectively: depressed) and lived off what was in my bank account for a while. I decided I would go to the mountains and take a McJob for the winter, just as sort of a "retreat". That McJob ended up being in a Ski Shop (I hadn't even been on skis in years at this point).
After a winter of about 50 days of skiing, and countless good times, spring came around. My original plan involved taking a contract out East and doing the computer thing in a new place. But, as I looked back on how much more I had enjoyed the last six months of my life, versus practically any period before it, I just couldn't leave.
Though I eventually changed towns (repeatedly), I've not really left the mountains since that winter. That was eight winters ago. I am now a certified helicopter ski guide, ski instructor, avalanche technician...have worked as head ski tech in one of the most well reputed shops on the continent...driven snowcat...you get the idea.
Still, around this time of year, I get a bit of a yearning for some more stability. I've decided to wade back into computers, at least up to my knees. I'm updating and adding to my skills (currently teaching myself Python) since though I was never the cream of the crop, even so they've grown rusty nonetheless.
I don't know where I'm going with this...I'll just say that if you're feeling listless, change something up. With good times and bad, I've lived things most people will never experience. None of that would have happened if I had just kept sticking it out in IT (though I'd be in far better financial shape).:)
Yep, I used the torrents and had it come down nice and fast. And I'll seed it for a good while to make sure others have the same experience. FYI: my connection is a weak wifi poached from someone in the area, and I still got 200K+ coming down (pretty much a record for my connection here).
p.s.: Related to Hardy itself (?):
After some not-working with the initial install (and both my previous Ubuntu installs), I now have direct rendering via my ATI card...a welcome change, damned if I know why it's working for me now.
...everything's a fuckin' travesty with you, man! And what was all that shit about Vietnam? What the FUCK, has anything got to do with Vietnam? What the fuck are you talking about?
Isn't the most obvious offshoot of this that people will parody the new ads. Then those parodies will become popular. The result will be companies paying for an ad that will be immediately followed by a lampoon of that same ad. Will Google be sink into true evil and allow companies to decide that their commercial won't be run next to a spoof of their commercial.
From a spoof-production point of view this actually presents some interesting possibilities.
God damn you Katz! You f**kin' asshole! Everything's a f**kin' travesty with you, man! And what was all that shit about A Good Dog? What the F**K, has anything got to do with your dog? What the f**k are you talking about?
-or-
That's a great plot, Katz. That's f**kin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss f**kin' watch!
"The screening process is voluntary, Wiggins said, but customers who choose not be screened won't be able to ride on the subway."
Yea, security screenings at airports are voluntary as well...but customers who choose not to be screened won't be allowed on flights.
"Don't trust out there."
That really rustled your Jimmies.
I got confused for a moment and thought I was browsing reddit.

I hate that I cant directly upvote here on Slashdot

I've spent most of my many years on /. just lurking.
Might be worth seeing how he worked in the game for some folk.

Malware doesn't need to exploit vulnerabilities in the software: it only needs vulnerable users. There is no way to patch that.
Correct, I believe we have a case of PIBCAK!

So the question then is, how many times will "idle" be allowed to fail before it is never again seen on the front page.
The colour scheme is painful. I'd prefer a more subdued one, like lime on orange, with some flashing gif's to induce a sense of calm.

Windows is jumping all the way to version 95? You're right, someone should announce that!
