    While it might seem precarous, it's actually far better than a no-credit world. Imagine having to pay rent on a house until you could afford to buy it outright - most would never be able to own their own home.

    You're looking at it the wrong way. Think how CHEAP houses would be if people couldn't borrow 10x their income to pay for them.

    *ANYTHING* would be more secure than requiring the purchaser to make some arbitrary random mark on a piece of paper. I've been making little smiley faces, writing "HI!!", etc, etc... for years.

    I haven't had the guts to write "STOLEN!" yet.

    Yes, but it wouldn't be hard to believe our military would shoot down an unidentified flying egg no matter how advanced or rare it's occupants might be.

    You know, I actually can't really complain about them shooting it down two years after the world just finished blowing the crap out of each other and nuclear weapons made their first appearance.

    It seems anyone smart enough to fly a few bazillion miles would also be smart enough to reconnoiter a less advanced (but still dangerous) civilization.

    I was objecting to the idea that profit should be removed from the equation. Expanding state-funded insurance which still uses for-profit agencies to provide health care does not contradict that.

    Since you would have no problem taking the husband and father from my wife and children, perhaps you need to consider having your own father removed... or you (or your husband) leaving your own.

    You would fit right in at a Stalinist era trial, you know that?

    I believe in the longer term a choice based system benefits everyone.

    Just so you know, I wouldn't be against expanding the state run systems on a state by state basis. I don't support nationwide because I think the Feds are pretty stupid and I don't want Bush as commander-in-chief of my health.

    There are some things far too important in life for dollars to be the deciding factor.

    I suppose you're talking about food, which is more important than healthcare. Also housing I guess should also never be for-profit either. Energy? Well, everyone needs gas and electricity so let's nationalize that. Phone service? Why let a corporation profit from something everyone uses. Entertainment? Well, those are public airwaves... can we make sure that a correct viewpoint gets on once in awhile?

    Sorry, doesn't work for me. You don't always get what you want. And you also don't always get what you need.

    Just as Prince can do what he wishes with his business, so can they. They might just be shooting their own foot, but it is their right to do so. Exactly. While it does depend on the particular retaliation (they can't break his legs or anything) they can do anything they want.

    In this case I expect it will amount to waving their hands and chanting "neener neener neener!" So, yeah, retaliate away.

    1. I don't think Prince is particularly afraid of retaliation.
    2. I don't think anyone who would actually be concerned with said retaliation is anyone the industry would want to retaliate against.

    India has a whole bunch of those. There's a voter's ID and a tax ID and a passport. Name and address included. India *is* bigger than the US in terms of population too.

    Not sure if this is what you're saying, but do you think the US doesn't have passports or tax IDs? Because in the case of the latter, I wish that were so.

    Voter IDs? Ha. We aren't allowed to ask for any ID when voting. Otherwise the illegals might not get a chance to vote and that would be racist. Plus they couldn't vote twice in Chicago either.

    Mandatory National ID Card like every other country in the world has.

    Couple issues here:

    1. Most states in the US are larger than some of the countries you are speaking of. Hell, a few cities are.
    2. Most of these states already issue their own id.

    But what I would pay money for (not this much) is a phone I could sit on, get soaking wet with sweat (it's 95 degrees with >70% humidity here), drop on concrete, etc... and still have the thing work.

    You know what I would pay money for? A phone that detected when someone fails to do a simple google search and then sent a few dozen volts through the intertubes and shocked the person before they could publicly bitch irritating me and making themselves look silly in the process.
