So I was watching a hot rod video yesterday with my son. These two guys rented a Lambo and a hot rod. What they were surprised at, and what I was surprised at was that women were much more interested and gravitated to the hot rod over the Lambo, and men were more interested in the Lambo than the hot rod. We had a discussion in the house about it and decided that it was because men were interested in the engineering, power, and general sexyness of the lambo, and the women were interested in the ruggedness, artistic nature, and individuality of the hot rod. Also my wife said the guy with the Lambo probably has a small penis, but that's out of the context of this conversation.
Am I the only one that things genetics, and the way our brains work has some angle on this? I mean, just watching my kids grow up you can give my son a stick and it's a gun, a bat, or he will combine the sticks with other sticks to build a fort. Give my girls a stick and they will break it and make candles for a cake they made out of sand. Granted the girls are willing to sword fight with the stick too, but they don't hold the long term interest in it that my son will.
Sexual tendencies don't mean sexual discrimination. Personally I'm hoping my girls will go into some sort of higher education type field, but if they are happy in life to be a mom and raise great children then who the fuck am I to get in the way of that dream.
We have a play room for my son and two daughters, who are only a 3 year spread apart. I try to teach my girls building and whatnot, but they will straight up take the Lincoln logs and make a cake out of them, or cookies. My littlest girl does nothing but talk about being a mommy to every doll, stuffed animal, or whatever. It's not like there isn't at least some genetic angle on this.
With that being said my girls are very creative with drawing, and enjoy building sand castles, and whatnot. But my son gravitates to trying to take my drills and hammers and do stuff.
Google adwords, people looking to hire hacking talent, dunno lots of people would probably want to, unsure of who might want to be seen as supporting them.
I'd be pretty interested in a GIGANTIC explosion in France, and I'm from Texas. Also it does have a science angle, because it's a chemical plant, and I've been interested in the discussions of how to deal with chemical fires in this thread.
If they write the website themselves, and have some sort of advertising for income then 2000 is fair. It doesn't have to be some big corporate conglomerate professional website. Sometimes doing things on a shoestring is a good way to start. Why burn a ton of cash if you don't get the people contributing the way you thought you would?
Who's country records and uses against him every fucking move he makes outside his house. Something most British seem to be pretty cool with so why in the word would he give damn about google?
The job of a bank is to make money, as with any commercial entity:). Lending money, an screwing depositors is just how banks usually go about it, but sometimes they can foreclose on a well paid on property and jack up the legal fees to eat all the equity, so they do have other nice little streams of revenue:P
Why? Nobody laughs when someone pulls out a 1500 dollar macbook, when the 300 dollar acer will do everything that the macbook will do that 95 percent of the population would need.
Just picked up a note 2, and I'm pleased as punch with it. Sure it's ridiculously expensive, but so was my gaming pc, and I enjoy that too.
I also drive a beat up 10 year old vehicle that's been paid off for 8 years. I don't enjoy vehicles, it doesn't mean I laugh at people for driving nice ones.
Yea, but for some reason google eats my calls sometimes completely and they go to VM. I'd like to at least have a chance to answer the call reliably. I use GV for my business main number, and my cell phone number direct is seperate. I'll be sitting at my computer and the browser will start ringing, but it won't go through to the cell phone. Sometimes it goes right to GV voicemail without ringing the browser or the phone.
And you can actually make and receive calls, and surf low bandwidth sites at a crawl in at least 60 percent of the areas you are in.
Just switched from sprint to ATT yesterday. Who gives a shit about unlimited data when it's so slow you could max it out for a week and not hit 1gb. I have to get customer calls, one missed call could mean losing a lot more than the measly 30 bucks more a month between our two phones.
Actually it does let them defy the government, it just comes at the cost of their lives. Whether that cost is acceptable is left as a judgement call to the citizen.
It's because IOWA is a very important state in our electoral college, and primaries, and it's a state with a great climate for corn. Thus we have all these amazing laws passed to push corn as hard as possible, so now we end up with corn growing in states and areas that are best used for wheat production. We also end up with stupid laws like ethanol which is a net loss in energy product from what I've read when you factor in all the different energy it takes to get it to market, let alone the gigantic amounts of water.
Funny how environmentalists get all upset about fracking and water, then seem to ignore the devastation corn has on our water supply.
Pushing the land to make more wheat than what it should have been making was really the root cause of the dust bowl. Modern dust bowls have not been seen even during drought years because we have the ability to dump water from the aquifer on the land. Just plowing in different directions isn't going to be the end all be all cure to dust blowing if we have a drought without the aquifer like we had the last few years. In fact our current drought has seen even drier conditions than in the dust bowl. The difference really wasn't farming practices so much, because a great deal of farmers have abandoned drought tolerant practices, but the changing factor was irrigation. There was enough breakage in irrigation that the dust was caught in the next field over instead of 10 miles away.
With that being said I've seen 3 dirt storms this year, more than in the last 10, and in the Texas Panhandle from birth I've grown up seeing days where we have 100mph gusts. We are the wind belt of the U.S.
How much water is behind the hoover dam which software controls? How much mass is in a tomahawk missile that runs on software? How much mass; is in a bunker buster, that is guided by GPS which is also run on military software?
Without software no modern military would be able to mount a campaign.
I know man, I don't want to get killed either, but just saying the guy that holds a joystick flying a drone bombing people isn't really that much better than someone shooting bullets other than he has air conditioning and a chair.
I'd fire her for being poisonous to the work environment, and hire 10 easy going females who have senses of humor to replace her. This kind of wretch drags an entire organization down.
She overheard someone talking NOT TO HER, and tried to make sure they couldn't feed their families. That makes her a hero? Bullshit.
These guys lost their jobs because of joking about the word dongle, something that every geek on the face of the planet has joked about. Forking and dongle are funny sounding stupid IT words, every profession has stupid words people joke about. If you are a female and you don't get invited to the after hours hang out where people goof around, make jokes, and talk serious business this is the kind of person you have to blame. What a horrible humorless human.
Don't think men with families they struggle to pay to feed their kids, and keep medical insurance don't secretly wonder if the female next to one of these females, and leave them out of the loop because of it. This is what causes the truly nasty life changing, paycheck shrinking discrimination, not stupid jokes.
Congratulations to her on the petty, bitter, shallow victory. and dinner alone. I wouldn't hire this wretch in a million years, I don't care if she is the most brilliant python developer in the world. No organization needs her poison in it.
You are morally opposed to bombing, that's cool, I can respect that seriously.
However if we bomb a janitor trying to feed his family and taking the only job he can find at a bullet manufacturing plant and kill him, then what makes him so diametrically more involved in war than someone writing software to guide missiles, or someone who writes software to melt down an enemy nuclear rector or worse.
Rules of war are a zany thing, especially since one side (the underdogs) usually ignores them completely and figures they probably won't be alive to see the aftermath of that decision, or they will be a totalitarian regime, and won't have to face the music.
I am in the class you speak of and I firmly believe in non redistribution. That includes up and it also includes down. as long as those in power have the power to distribute downwards they will also be able to bend those exact same rules to distribute upwards at a faster pace. Taxing the rich actually always end up texting the middle class instead of the rich. The rich just find ways of hiding their income in non taxable returns wow the middle class gets stung by the taxes as inflation changes the true earnings. the main difference between conservatism and liberalism is that liberals believe that the government can be a series force for good if only they can control it properly well conservatives believe the government is going to be a negative force because nobody can control it properly. there are of course varying shades of gray in all the leaves what is the general principle on conservatism and liberalism.
please forgive any bad grammar or spelling I had to dictate this posting

This was a great interview. Thank you Slashdot for not being tunnel visioned into only tech.
Google adwords, people looking to hire hacking talent, dunno lots of people would probably want to, unsure of who might want to be seen as supporting them.
Chemicals, Reactions, Explosions, Response to those, Causes, Effects, new technologies to stop these problems in the future being discussed?
What about this is NOT science, technology, and stuff that matters?

So.
Fuck off, and have a nice day!

A 600 dollar phone you could sell on ebay for 200.

All moving to biofuels does is destroy the large underground lake called the ogalala that the midwest sits on. Once gone it is hello dustbowl 2.
