Really. You are paying $10 or more... to play sudoku on your phone? When people are in a theater, why can't they just watch the movie? Or leave if they are bored? Are attention spans really that short?
I don't need a lot of games... takes me forever to play thru them. But there aren't a lot of games that I like, so I don't want to be limited because my ideology doesn't allow me to use the platform that most of the games run on.
Forced upgrade? Huh? I'm still running Win 7 on one machine and Win XP on my streaming box. Not feeling any "forced upgrade". I can still buy plenty of new software and games, and I'm sure that will continue when 8.1 is released. In what way am I "forced to upgrade"?
What the heck do you have on your Win 7 machine? My 4 year old Win 7 machine takes maybe a minute to boot (on a bad day). Of course, if I leave it in sleep mode, it comes up instantly.
I'm a fan of the middle ground myself. But because I've been working in Ruby on Rails I see way too much "omg you gotta switch to this cool new tech which is a little more obscure and slightly less functional and certainly less reliable than what it replaces, but wow, it's new!!!!"
Because constantly switching platforms, environments, and languages because "that's what the cool kids use" is a great way to need those hot new skills when your project sinks under a mass of half written, non-working code in 5 different frameworks.
Why would it be immoral to write code and then charge for it? Aren't you charging for the time of development, except that you are taking the risk that the software you write might not sell well? What's the difference between getting one or more customers to hire you to write code, and then writing the code, vs. writing the code, and then selling to one or more customers?
All I know is I can't get past iOS 4.x on my ITouch and I can't buy software for it anymore. Which kinda sucks. I can still buy software to run on XP Windows... but not my ITouch. Even software that is claimed to run on it gives a "requires at least iOS xyz"... AFTER I've bought it.
If all the NSA was doing was monitoring public posts to Facebook & Twitter no one would care. You might want to glance at the news to see what they are really doing.
For work I develop software (RoR) on a Mac, and that is a pleasant environment. I use Win 7 at home, works fine, and some of the UI such as actually having the menus on the window the menus are associated with makes far more sense than the Mac. I don't use Linux because even though I write software for a living, I don't particularly want to spend all of my time fiddling with the environment and configuration, I just want to either get my work done, or have fun. I'm not interested in chasing the latest cool method of pulling down the latest cool distro.
right... because we'd be way better off living like Somalia or Afghanistan and paying tribute to the local gangs and warlords than plea bargaining marijuana cases.
I think the whoosh is on your end. No, not all Jews are from Israel, and yet it's comforting for all Jews to know that after thousands of years, there's one country where there isn't a chance that they will be a hated minority. Unlike Muslims, Hindus, Catholics, etc that have many nations where they can feel comfortably in the majority, there's only one country on earth where that's true for Jews.
Wait a second. I had an Apple ][, and it came with Integer Basic on the ROM. You had to run floating point Basic off a cassette tape (it was a while before I got a floppy disk) but Integer Basic was built in.
Ah, the Red Book... ALL of the monitor code to read. Small enough that you could actually understand what was going on. Those were the days.
It would be one short inconvenience instead of a distraction that lasts the entire movie.
Being jammed into a seat for 6 hours listening to multiple phone conversations would be hell on earth... or in the skies.
How far is it to the door to the theater?
then why are you at the theater????

sure it is. He revealed the secrets of the group whose purpose is... to reveal secrets.
You mean this is the year of Linux on the desktop????
Yeah.... you can get tens of thousands of games on Windows, maybe a thousand on Mac, or a hundred on Linux...

Because that's not normal. I've been running Windows machines for years and never had one take remotely that long to boot. It's not the O/S.

So I've gotten a bit jaded.

I see people who want money from me for stuff as lacking integrity. People should just give me stuff. If only more people had Bach's integrity.
That's a bold statement, there are some pretty bad languages out there. Perl comes to mind as a "write-only" language.

The situation of reading public posts on Facebook? I sure hope there aren't any laws on that situation.

What planet do you live on, anyway?
Or a jury can find OJ Simpson innocent of murder because they don't like a white female prosecutor. It's a double-edged sword.

Got it?
Yeah, God forbid that the Jews have a way to survive.
