    I use it, too. It's no longer in active development, but I did hear not long ago that some people got permission to take it over and rewrite it for MySQL. It really has worked well for us and is merely a bunch of perl scripts that can be edited to your liking, too.

    Rarely, when we have some sort of network issues here and people can't get to their mail for some reason, panic ensues. It's well known around here that when someone's about to be let go, their computer is disconnected from the network.

    I'd get very nervous calls about a person's PC having network issues, then when I explain that it's a hardware issue, there's a sigh of relief. Hey, at least instead of them getting pissed off at the inconvenience of network downtime, they look on the bright side for once. ;-)

    What's so funny about that? That's probably all this is -- leaked source that was sent to modders. I thought I read somewhere that Valve had done that. So really, the code's probably worthless to anyone not doing modding (i.e., no models, sounds, textures, scripting, etc.)

    If it's only 32MB as reported, that means it's probably just the source code -- no graphics, models, etc. Probably no logic or scripting code either.

    I think the poster of the question needs to let us know why wireless over wired? We're assuming the audience is sitting in seats, not moving. So why do you need devices that move freely, are able to be stolen, and have all the problems you mentioned?

    Mission Critical Linux does this.

    There's also the LKCD (Linux Kernel Crash Dumps) package:

    KCD contains kernel and user level code designed to:

    • Save the kernel memory image when the system dies due to a software failure;
    • Recover the kernel memory image when the system is rebooted;
    • Analyze the memory image to determine what happened when the failure occurred.

    You could always use GoDaddy for domain registrations, which gives you the option of keeping registration info private. Not to mention their prices are a hell of a lot better than going through Verisign.

    Dear God, man. "wide-ass open" and "there hasn't been [an exploit] in a while" is quite a range to jump from. Don't go scaring the piss out UW-IMAPD users into thinking they've missed some glaring bugs that even RedHat has refused to patch (they distribute UW-imap with their distro), when you don't seem to have any grounds for saying so.

    Someone mark that bozo's post as "Flamebait", please.

    When I read this line (from the article):

    "Under EPC, every can of Coke would have a one-of-a-kind identifier."

    It occured to me that it's quite possible that such unique id's on consumable items could later get tracked back to their purchasers, then automatically impose a littering fine on them if said Coke can is found empty and discarded on the ground somewhere.

    I don't really see that as becoming a reality, but it's possible.

    Jus say that when someone says something you can't/don't want to do. Most people in the company will probably be bowled over or be sick of hearing you tell them that for the tenth time and you'll eventually get caught up on work.

    Or you could just totally confuse them with a bunch of jargon technobabble that makes things sound even worse than they are.
