Try removing fontconfig. No warning that it breaks XFree and ltsp-core. Try checking dependancies of fontconfig by doing "qpkg -q fontconfig". You'll only see XFree, not ltsp-core. Say you remove fontconfig. ltsp-core won't work. Try reemerging ltsp-core to fix the problem. emerge looks and notices XFree is installed so it stops there. It doesn't bother looking at XFree's dependancies. So remerging ltsp-core doesn't help. And the fact that typing "emerge -p " or "qpkg -q " takes forever compared to apt-get is also a disadvantage. Not sure if its due to their caching mechanisms or because of Python.

The worst thing about Debian's packages is not that they are conservative, it's that they are too damn hard to create. They'll never be able to keep up with Gentoo in the long haul as far as creating new packages and updating old ones go. But the main advantages of Gentoo are not in compiling from source really, although it is cool to have athlon-built binaries instead of Debian's i386 packages.... But the main advantages come from simple things like rc-update, etc-update, no debconf, and I like the fact that what you get is straight from upstream, no debianization, no added security crap, no altered conf files...

I think the United States should try him in true American style, in a one-hour FOX TV special! Reality TV is all the rage these days, but it has suffered a bit of late. This could be just the boost the reality TV market needs. Since the O.J. trial, Americans, as well as people from all over the world have been begging for real-life courtroom drama. People are tired of the Practice, Law & Order, and other trials like Scott Pederson and the Menendez brothers just didn't satisfy the insatiable needs of Americans. FOX TV is in trouble these days with ratings, and I'm sure if a Saddam trial was shown on TV it would be a guarranteed ratings bonanza! Who could judge the outcome of the trial? Who else, but the American people themselves? Set up a 1-900 number and rake in the dough. I think that to make it interesting, while Saddam is being asked questions (by Regis Philbin) he should be allowed 3 lifelines, one to phone a friend (Osama), a 50-50, and one "ask the audience". Once he is proven to be guilty he will be subjected to many challenging feats in a final bid to save his life. Should he fail, he will be sent to an island in the Pacific to spend 4 weeks with 15 other Americans where 24 cameras will watch his every move! Will Saddam set up a dictatorship on the island? How will he fare in the athletic challenges? TV does not get more exciting than this.

Microsoft Word had AutoSummarize in Word 97, or was it 2000? Anyhow it seems to be absent in Word XP. It was the trashiest thing I'd ever seen. Actually I used to use it all the time to write my abstract. It provided a nice way for me remember everything I talked about in my report, and I think it made an effort to use keywords words which came up a lot in the report. But sometimes it did things which made no sense at all. Too bad Microsoft wasn't Open Source, their AutoSummarize feature might actually be half decent by the year 2003, but instead the abandonned it to work on other projects I guess.
