I've often wondered about this (and most forms of advertising), but are geeks generally immune to this sort of thing. If I need something from a supermarket I will take the most direct route to the item and the most direct route to the till. I basically never buy anything not already on the agenda (though I may detour to the DVD section because the supermarkets often have stupidly cheap bargains) and NEVER browse. My wife is the opposite, she'll go for a loaf of bread and come out with a half dozen carrier bags and will take 45 minutes to do it.
Is my way an intrinsic part of being logical of thought?
I'm doing the big data way and just ripping the whole disc image and accessing it that way so I still have all the extras etc. Currently changing to AppleTVs if I can make them work with NitoTV over the network which provides an ATV front end to Media Player. If you can afford the disks it's the nicest way to keep the DVD "experience".
I agree that is the reason for the vast majority, but there are some cases where people have a legitimate reason. I'm in the process of ripping my 600+ DVDs to an increasingly large hard drive array so I can access them all around the house without the need to get the discs. I know it's unusual but there are legitimate reasons.
From what I could make from the Q&A comment, the enterprise program is to allow companies to develop and distribute "in house" apps that are for their business only, without the need to publish them to the App Store.
The Sisters of Mercy sort of did this to escape their contract with East West by releasing SSV-NSMABAAOTWMODAACOTIATW: "Screw Shareholder Value - Not So Much A Band As Another Opportunity To Waste Money On Drugs And Ammunition courtesy Of The Idiots At Time Warner". By providing any album they escaped their contract, even though it was unreleasable.
You could make this analogy that the record comnpany smeared the band with sticky stuff (the contract") and, as part of their escape they regurgitated this infected release of an album. It doesn't totally hold up, but it was the closest I could think of. More details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSV_(band) and http://www.thesistersofmercy.com/gen/ressv.htm
I think that those of us who paid $300+ dollars ($383 to get it to the UK and I expect I'll have import duty to pay on top of that) are the die hard NIN fans. There are maybe two or three other bands that I'd drop that kind of cash on for a single release and I don't think it has anything to do with the business model. NIN are a band that have a lot of very rabid fans and then a lot of others who like their stuff and will happily pay for the $5 or $10 package. Then there are those who will spend the $5 just an a screw you to the RIAA and to show support for the model.
All cult music acts could produce something in this price range and the hardcore will buy it, but I suspect that 2500 was the right number to produce for this. I'm sure they could have sold 5000 copies, but at that point you're probably pushing the market limit of people willing to spend $300 on one album.
Not as long as some with 4 digit UIDs but enough years and enough karma to burn to know amusing stories show up but they are amusing REAL stories. It's a small step from this to amusing-crap-found-on-youtube. I spend more time on Digg these days because of the higher turnover rate for stories, but I stay with/. because it promotes real stories of real news and promotes real discussion. This example, however, was blatant ego spamming by an editor.
All the teens and early 20-somethings that joined/. in it's first few years are now ten years older and have developed sproglets. They've asked for advice on everything else here, so why not on the kids
The 25000 yen includes taxes. I'm led to believe that US prices when quoted exclude tax? (Correct me if I'm wrong). But it seems perfectly possible that 25000 inc translates easily to $200 ex (according to www.xe.com 25000 yen is about $212).
Define "life threatening". Is asphyxiation "life threatening"? Plenty of people enjoy that during sex, are they proposing that be made illegal, in image form at least? Branding? Scarification? Blood letting? Biting? Whipping? Nullification? At what point does sado-masochism slip over the line that someone can deem it life threatening?
I no longer see movies on a weekend since our cinema does cheap-ass Tuesday showings, where all films are £2.50 ($4.72) which is much more palatable than the weekend prices, plus you get better seats and room to spread out a bit because there are less people there. I saw SoaP tonight at a 7.00pm showing and the cinema was about 3/4 full. Not bad for an early weekday showing.
To be fair, I live in a rather rarified position in that my 26" LCD in the bedroom was £600 (~$1130), whereas the main TV in the living room is a 32" CRT which cost £1700 (~$3200). I don't plan on changing the 32" CRT until I have to and with HD being a long way from even close to ubiquitous in the UK I expect that will be a few years away yet, by which stage good 1080p LCDs (or better - SED or OLED) will me more readily available.
I run my 360 through a Samsung 26" and it is fine. The newer Samsung (the r7 range) has a dedicated gaming mode to further improve this. To get technical, the demo pods (at least all the ones I have seen) use the 23" LE23R51 which has no HDMI socket, just component, though the 26" version does have one. Great set though and fine for gaming and media centre duties.
Yeah, my bad, I noticed that right after I posted, then tried to post a retraction and apology, which also seems to have gone missing (along with my ability to RTFC). So let's put it down to a bad Slashdot night and I'll go play Animal Crossing:)

What if you'd just bought them for a posh wank?
They should have seen if they could get some of Google's pigeons, they seem to do a great job.

Apple aren't a monopoly. I'm guessing that's where the differentiation is, there is plenty of other options if you're unhappy with the iPhone.

Also covers credit card charges so you don't need to worry about those either.

If it's four lights then it means the AV cable is disconnected or faulty.
You need to watch Mike Judge's Idiocracy which shows exactly how we're going to evolve.
Fanboyism aside and since I don't have time to rtfa, what percentage of these sales and growth were down to Nintendo and specifically the DS?
Oh come on, they're not going to send a 911 police reponse around to Apple just because of some stock irregularities.
Sources also suggest that the US version includes two controllers and Wii Sports, which could make up the difference.
