  1. Re:This article is all wrong on ATI's Radeon Linux drivers no longer supported? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Ah, thanks! Well, if you call that kind of information hiding suppport your demands are really on the geek end. Nice to have a driver, but why not give a slight hint somewhere on the ATI page that it does exist?

So, for the not so curious public, here is the head of the README file for the Fire GL X1, Fire GL Z1, Fire GL E1, Fire GL 8800, Fire GL 8700 LINUX X4.1.0 2.9.13 driver:

    Graphics Accelerators:
    ATI Radeon 8500, 9100, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, M9, M9+, M10
    ATI FireGL 8700, 8800, E1, X1, Z1

Err, and now please tell me where are the Radeon drivers, since this is what the article is all about.
Don't blame the editors, better blame yourself for not beeing able to read one article instead of thousands a day. :-)

The idea of deploying Linux at Munich's administration is an older one and in the course of discussion it turned out that most politicians of CDU and FDP will be against the Linux solution.

Note that it is still a preliminary decision. But as you can read from the article if it comes to the final decision there probably will be 43 (SPD and Gruene party) to 33 (CDU and FDP) votes for Linux. :-)

  7. Misleading Headline on Linux 3.0 · · Score: 1

The headline "Linux 3.0" is not very meaningful. To me it sounds more like Linux 3.0 is released but not at all that there's a discussion about the last features that might be integrated before the *feature freeze* of the upcoming version of linux, which might also be called 2.6.

  8. Re:obvious missing patches... on Linux 3.0 · · Score: 1

I don't think this patch is important to the quality of the upcoming kernel release. It's really something which can be (and is already) integrated by distributions to make such kind of users happy. As a core component the kernel should be technically sound in the first place. As you can see from the list there's still a lot of technically stuff that can be added to improve the kerenel so that eye candy really doesn't matter.

It won't take up too much room (about 3.7 MB or so as of version 6.1)

You've also to include the sources with your CD. That will make in case of vim for win another 1.7 MB.
