I DID volunteer to help. Three years ago I submitted patches to the Mozilla Source Tree that would permit XSL Transformations to work as transparently as Microsoft's offerings in IE5. Fully believing my input in an open source project would be welcome, I was more than a little bit dismayed to receive the following email. (Name deleted to protect the guilty)

What the HELL do you think you're playing at? Mozilla is a NETSCAPE project, so what the hell would we be doing integrating MICROSOFT technology like XSL??? No-one uses it anyway.
If you want to do something useful, help us get XUL working. It's far superior to anything Micro$oft could come up with. It allows us to RUN FULL APPLICATIONS within the Mozilla platform. Using web standards to ensure full desktop dominance.
If you cannot work with us, you are working against us. Go back to your Mickey$oft loving Visual C++ hack jobs, you idiot!
Sometimes, in the self-minded quest for the ultimate troll, in the epoch-shattering journey towards the mythic "Fist Sport", the facts get lost in the rush.
To that end I apologise for not having enough time to reflect upon the postings I make before hitting 'Submit'. I beseech forgiveness.
... is like shooting fish in a barrel. It's just TOO EASY!
Not one post to defend the bloated beast. Strange, isn't it? Even the most rabid of Mozzealots can't even summon up enough resolve to counter the arguments of reason.
Time for this dinosaur to be made extinct. If it means we have to follow a few loudspoken programmers home and murder them in front of their families, then so be it.
JWZ had the right idea. Get out before his reputation was permenently tarnished.
It's been five years since Netscape Communications Corp. first took the brave step in opening up the source code to their infamous "Netscape Communicator" browser. The past half-decade has seen the world's finest programmers working on the code, in order to make Mozilla 1.0 the best browser there is yet.
Of course, we're still not there yet. However, Mozilla 0.9999b remains the best version of Mozilla there is so far. The main issues we have resolved for this release include:
* The mouse pointer no longer disappears when over a hyperlink. (Damn Microsoft for providing a default cursor for links. We want to use OUR OWN!!!, even if the graphics files aren't done yet.)
* Mozilla Mail no longer needs to be left running 24/7 in order to maintain the integrity of your mail folders. You can now quit the application with ease. But for fuck's sake don't reset your machine, otherwise the entire partition will get hosed.
We hope that you enjoy Mozilla 0.9999b, and don't forget to fill in those bug reports, which will be carefully logged and ignored in favour of the latest cool buzzword-friendly developments.
If you live near a Synagogue, check in their bins every Saturday to obtain a big bagful of discarded baby foreskins. You'll find they provide a cheap, nutritious and tasty alternative to getting a real fucking job and earning enough money to feed yourself properly.
If anyone from those nasty independent Web Standards projects even so much as DARES to offer a reasonable, balanced criticism of the lack of progress of your favourite toy project, remember that you can make yourself appear much more mature and professional by referring to them as "Loonies" in official documentation.
w00t! A chance to sit around with a load of losers who honestly believe that clinging onto the browser bandwagon will help to change the world somehow.
Microsoft is the best browser. FACT. If it's not available for your OS, it is the OS at fault.
Doesn't the lack of interest in this article tell you something, OSS posterboy?
Along with anyone else who gets paid for the work they do. But not as loudly as those entrepreneurial geniuses who realised that by force-feeding young impressionable geeks bullshit propaganda about Bazaars, they could be 'inspired' to write reams and reams of code without being paid a dime.
The suits will always win through. EVERY Open Source project has received backing from big business. Why? Purely so that the work of OSS zealots can be captured and used for profit.
I shall cheer the day when Stallman's fat bloated corpse is dragged onto the street for all the rats to eat.
I find your British humor 'amusing', especially all the jokes about asses.
Before they turned shit. Brings a tear to my eye. And by that I don't just mean the tip of my penis lubricating itself with pre-cum either.
Although it is.
No I've never met a nice South African
Which is not suprising, man.
'cos they're a load of racist bastards
With no sense of humor.
Fist Sport!
Not the piece of unflexable unwieldly shit that is Mozilla.
+5, Insightful
It should have considered the situation where someone already has a pre-existing website which they just want to enhance with some news capability.
Why should it? Slash, like ALL Open Source endeavours, is an all or nothing solution. It does NOT play well with others.
Download Slash source
Download Apache source
Download Perl source
Download MySQL source
Compile in some bizarre arcane order
Cry when it doesn't work
Give up and install Windows 2000 Server and use a plug-in COM module for your overgrown links page
Fist Sport!
Hardly anyone's posting. Has there been another Islamic terror attack or something?

Islamics still eat their own offspring though.
Why does Apple get the fancy art and stuff?

"Mozilla. 5 years on.

Won't anyone download it? Pleeeeease?"
The only non-Mozilla bashing post, and that's only because it's got nothing to do with Mozilla.
The day this bloated, diseased embarrassment of a project gets the plug pulled, the better.
It won't be missed. 4 years and still no finished product. Have they got Ted Nelson on the team or something?
Especially themselves. Lazy, pitiful creatures they are.
High tech for Islamics.
Fist Sport.

What does Mozilla offer that Opera cannot? Apart from glacially slow development times and a roadmap that tends to infinity?

Clearly the future of computing shall be determined by the victor of this cataclysmic clash of ideology.
They are currently neck and neck in the "What's the fucking point, I just want to get my work done!" stakes.
Along with anyone else who gets paid for the work they do. But not as loudly as those entrepreneurial geniuses who realised that by force-feeding young impressionable geeks bullshit propaganda about Bazaars, they could be 'inspired' to write reams and reams of code without being paid a dime.

Death by poverty. The choice of a GNU generation.
