External graphics cards would go a long way towards fixing this. Everything about my lappy is farmed out to or assisted by an external thingy (sorry about the latin) except for memory, and I can't see why that should be the exception.
Trying to excuse your god from condemning it because it was "less wrong back then" is pretty foolish.
My god? I guess we both relearned that old chestnut about assumptions today. Anyhow, I feel like I've been steered into somehow supporting Roman slavery. Not appreciated. My whole point was that slavery back then wasn't the same as slavery in the US, a point that someone who studied BOTH institutions might appreciate. Not trying to make excuses, because it's simply not relevant to me. I don't care. Just trying to point out that different situations reveal different ethical concerns. Not a lot of abolitionists bugging Caesar, were there? Not for long at least...
Wow, "Ellie Crystal's Metaphysical and Scientific Website" says all that, huh? Really pulling out the big guns, aren't you.
Look, it's Bad vs. Evil not because Roman slaves had it better than American ones (they did. read a fucking book instead of searching google) but because we KNEW BETTER. Hello, post-enlightenment society?
Side note, but Im guessing you're an ex-catholic. Most people go from religious to non-religious (if they're making that kind of decision), but it's only the catholics that go straight to anti-religion. Or see intelligent design as a christian phenomenon, rather than simply yet another weird perversion to come out of the south.
Seriously - I have no interest in reasoning with people who are basic rejectionists of the scientific method. Kierkegaard taught me that people of faith and the insane are functionally indistinguishable
Ahh yes, I remember many evenings spent poring over Kierkegaard's early clinical studies. Fascinating man, methodical doctor.
Being a slave in Roman territory was NOT the same thing as being a slave in America. Much closer to the system of indentured servitude a la Johnny Tremaine. You had rights. You could potentially become a citizen. Slavery in Rome was BAD, slavery in America was EVIL.
As far as "freeing the slaves" goes in the US, we're still working on that. You'll know it's over when you start seeing black Libertarians.
I'd be interested to hear how UK libraries compare to their counterparts in the US. Does the loan payment take a large chunk of their budgets? Does this limit libraries to stocking reference material over popular novels? It's an interesting idea, but it seems like it would greatly limit the amount of material available.
No, they're not. Libraries pay per loan, which is paid by taxes, and that money goes to the author. This was one reason the public library movement was able to get authors on side in its early days.
Libraries do NOT pay per loan, and have NEVER had authors on their side.

I thought the same thing. What kind of a statement is that? Fear the science desk editor with a word quota, I guess.
As stated by a Chinese culture minister, apparently player versus player or "player killing" (PK) is harmful to kids:
"Minors should not be allowed to play online games that have PK content, that allow players to increase the power of their own online game characters by killing other players... They are harmful to young people."
Their government took the time to actually learn what was going on in-game before taking a position. And they're addressing something that coud be seen as an actual problem with online gaming. Great... I get owned by chinese rogues and my government gets owned by chinese bureaucrats.
Yep. A major flaw at the heart of the open source movement is the misconception that most individuals actually have the legal right to contribute their intellectual efforts to OSS projects.
So basically we're pwnd in a very real and legally binding sense? Nerf Capitalism!
Oh wait, you wanted a 3d XML based interface. Try this one, it's highly customizable, and has been stress-tested by millions already. Solid db hooks, and every object you "interact" with on your "desktop" can be manipulated with thousands of pre-written scripts.
Why post on a 2nd account? This is getting weirder and weirder, dude. Nobody is going to buy into your bizarre up-is-down economic theory, and yet you post the exact same proposal again and again.
Perhaps you could simply point us to your website? I read the timecube one, rest assured I'd give you a fair hearing.
Ahh, I see what you're getting at. I think the point of contention here is the $300 price tag for a (let's say) $2000 laptop. Is this such a good deal that someone who looks for great deals for a living would pass it by? Is someone who looks for great deals for a living morally compelled to offer fair market value when buying low? I'd say no to both.
It would have been smart of him to photocopy drivers licenses though.
A honest businessman would notify the person who is selling of a potential higher value of the equipment, given some service work, and offer a reasonable price.
Every now and then you run across a/. post so far removed from daily existance that you can't help but wonder who's behind it....
First, the move to Intel will not impact their sales negatively. It will irritate some current Mac owners because of the loss of compatibility. Eventually those faithful will stop fighting the tide and buy into Intel/Apple.
Apple has a history of abandoning platforms. II family to Mac, 680x0 to PPC, 9 to X... It's always irritating when you're on the tail end of an Apple epoch, but the change has always been net-positive(aside from the IIgs, which I am still bitter about). Point being that Apple fans are pretty used to the idea of an evolving system.
Gee, a movie based on a four year old television series that itself only lasted four to six episodes? Oh, that must be absolutely amazing.
/.!
Hi there! I have no knowledge of, or interest in, the subject at hand. This will not stop me from posting my random pre-coffee thoughts. Enjoy,

Arr, squiddy, I got nothin' against ya. I just heard there was gold in yer belly.

Some of us can't wait to see a giant squid, some of us can't wait to see Everybody Loves Raymond.
Yah, it's easy to forget that "honor" has a very specific meaning within military culture, and even within different branches. Flexible word, really.
Trying to excuse your god from condemning it because it was "less wrong back then" is pretty foolish.

If the FBI "researcher" feels disgusted with himself afterwards, it's deviant.
Yeah, everytime Sun says "phone" I hear the words "thin client". Your client wants to be fat.

Every time I read a blurb from some entertainment group I can't help but picture DeNiro strangling that wig salesman in Goodfellas.
"Where's my MONEY! I want my MONEY!"
With the occasional government stooge playing Liota's character... "Jesus Morrie, just give him the money already".
I put on my robe and wizard hat.
And I foolishly assumed the debate was "local".
