  1. You're right. I quit reading /. over a decade ago because I couldn't get past the narrow-minded (I was one of them at one point) comments about any company trying to do the right thing. Came back here today to see if things had changed. Nope. The guy at the top wants change and it's been happening. Despite what a very small vocal and idiotic minority (on /.) and other websites think.

    Does the H1-B system need reform? Yes
    Does the immigration system need reform? Yes
    Does the L1 system need to be scrapped? Quite probably
    Does slashdot circle jerk without getting the idea? Yep

    Am I missing nothing? Yep.

    Which delusional place are you from? Unless you meant "better" than China which is a different story, the following countries have
    a higher standard of living than the USA:

    - France
    - Switzerland
    - Australia
    - New Zealand
    - Netherlands
    - Norway
    - Luxembourg

    A couple of those might be debatable and one can bring the population/area into the equation but if you want to go superlative, you better do your homework

    Been on LTS releases since 6.06 for my work desktops. Run Debian on my test/server boxes though. I try out the non-LTS releases on my laptop but not too often. Even then with LTS, I have to use PPA repos since Ubuntu repos take forever to update :\

    I am in the same boat as you are. I was an AT&T customer for 6.5 years and then switched to Tmobile after a huge F'up by AT&T (should've taken them to the courts). If this deal goes through, I am going to Verizon. No way in hell will I ever be an AT&T customer.

    TLDR version: Fuck AT&T

    Totally agree regarding SGU. I liked the show to begin with (watched it last month) and initially I felt sad but as season one progressed, I was getting sick of the bickering. It wasn't a dark show, it was just childish bickering. Then I checked the ratings and it made total sense. Bad shows need to be canned. Period.

    I believe the other reason is that manors are usually fortified and building walls / moats around how the brain works makes it harder to work.

    Pretty close to what I did. ( (300*300 + 50*300 + 7*300) ) - ( (300*11) + (50*11) + (7*11) ) This was reduced to (300*3+50*3+7*3)*100 - (3927) It's not hard at all but I learned mathematics in India.

    Even with minimal addons, FF 3.6 on my Windows machine takes upto a gig of memory after about 30mins of usage/being left idle especially with flash based sites. I don't have this problem on my trust Ubuntu netbook but the version of FF on that machine is 3.8. In the last one week, I've had to recommend 4 Firefox users to switch to Chrome (they've never even heard of Chrome). What's happening Mozilla labs? (Do an internet search for "firefox 3.6 memory hog"). So, umm, before introducing new addons - why don't you fix your browser's issues on your largest install base eh?

    Like the article says, the wish was for the phone being 20k instead of 49.9k. They have it wrong - once they get the bill from their webhosting company, they will be happy to have something left with to buy the batteries for the phone. The host is dead.

    You are right. Even the G1 has multitouch capability that doesn't have software support. I've been using the Dolphin Browser (Free!) on my Nexus one and I 3 it.

    People use Netscape? I upgrade only if I see features useful to me (or support). Used Dapper Drake for 2 years before I switched to Feisty Fawn and switched to Jaunty two months ago. This is all on really decent hardware. Installing the latest and greatest of distributions on ancient hardware just because you can doesn't sound like a remarkably good idea to me.
