As fast as an elk? Is that some kind of Canadian measure of velocity? Can you get a speeding ticket for going 2 elks in a school zone? What is the speed of light in elks?
Since when is firmware not software? It's compiled from source code, transferred to storage media, and then transferred into non-volatile ram... and it runs as a program when the drive is used. That's like saying a stuffed bear is not a bear.
Somehow this reminds me of Hofstadter's illustration of Godel's incompleteness theorem in Godel, Escher, Bach... wherein Achilles has a phonograph which he claims can reproduce any sound, so the tortoise gives him a record with a sound which destroys phonographs...
A disease that affects cows and is present in their blood won't affect humans just by being transfused into them - it has to be a disease which can affect humans in the first place, and even in that case it could be just as easily transmitted by eating a hamburger.

Praying Doesn't Help

· Score: 2, Insightful
Your seatbelt analogy doesn't make any sense. It translates to "Prayer helps people as long as they don't get cancer. Thus we should keep praying," which is not exactly a convincing endorsement.
Not trying to be insulting, but it's this kind of pseudo-logic which misleads vulnerable people into joining churches. It sounds good - just as long as you don't think about it too deeply.
iTunes or a similar app someday will provide a promotional mechanism which equals or betters that of the current record industry. It's just a matter of time. "Word of mouth" is "word of mouth;" it doesn't matter whther it comes through the TV and magazines or through the computer display.
The companies' cramming tactics become "legal" by altering those taped recordings to include a quick statement about the $30 charge.
That's not what the article says. It hints that the tape was cut off immediately after the person responded "Yes" to a group of questions asked quickly all at once, removing the rest of their response. Which is still bad but not nearly as bad as inserting bits into the conversation that never took place. I'm sure that's not far off, if it's not already happening in some cases, but it didn't happen here according to the MSNBC article.
It's not about that. If you develop, say, an intranet site for a client with an installed base of a few thousand or more Pentium II machines (or thin clients or whatever; they're a lot more common than you think) they're not going to and they shouldn't have to upgrade or change their application set to meet the demands of your HTML.
Yeah. Better yet, if you don't actually hand-craft each of the electrical impulses for the CPU, in order, one by one, with a tiny hand-powered generator, you are not a real programmer.
What kind of logic is it that makes people think that invoking a compiler on their textfiles is the step that turns them into "real" programmers?
gcc file.c woo, i'm a programmer! perl -e file.pl doh, i'm not a programmer. gcc file.c woo, i'm a programmer! perl -e file.pl doh, i'm not a programmer.
Actually I'd be just as happy if it went to support enforcement of the law - legal fees, court fees, international hitmen for those offshore spammers, things like that.
Nobody's saying this is the first device capable of playing DivX movies on a TV. A PC with TV-out could do that long before dcdivx. What's special about the KISS is that it's a standalone DVD player which also plays MPEG4. You can go to a store and buy it, plug it in and play DivX movies off the shelf. That's what it's first at. I don't get your point.
If you're anywhere near New Orleans, definitely visit the Tabasco factory in Avery Island (about 2 hours away). They've got a great tour and a really interesting history. Also it's a really nice drive, and the whole surrounding area smells like Tabasco sauce! (big plus for me.) It would also complement the Jack Daniels tour you're considering.

Is this the same Criswell who predicted that all people would be wearing nude bodysuits by the 1980s, and the world would end on Aug. 18, 1999?
I'm getting sick of this guy and his predictions. But I'm not getting rid of my bodysuit.
It's Betamax vs. VHS not Sony vs. Betamax. Sony developed Betamax.
Well, I doubt they're happy...

Well, it was funny to me.
Where are you going?

Mod parent up! Please!

either bad movies or bad names that no one can pronounce
Or both - Gigli - IMDB's #1 worst film of all time!
Worse than Hobgoblins! Worse than Santa With Muscles! Even worse than Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!
I think it's time for the MPAA to start paying reparations to the millions of theatregoers afflicted by this schlock over the years.
Remove the file "NO-XRATED" in the Data folder. then when you run the game, right-click instead of left-clicking. (If you're, uh, over 18.)

well it would if the file was named "print \"blah\"; =)

Yeah, get my broker on the phone, I'm dumping all my stock in "a Fortune 500 Company."
VMWare's not an emulator, though - it's a host environment. I would bet that it would work...

Web Economy Bullshit Generator I thought this was common knowledge...

gaining you a lot of time, sweat and money
Well, one of those things I have plenty of, but I could always use more of the other two.
and corn!

I'm getting hungry now.
